Please share your favorite online decorating stores...

I only found GW a few months ago and can't get over the wealth of information I have found on here. Aside from Pottery Barn and Ballard, I didn't know of too many other online resources for furniture, lighting, accessories etc. Each time someone posts a link to a website, I have been adding them to my favorite places. I often scratch my head wondering "where do they find these?" I'm tired of PB and Ballard, can you guys share your favorite websites?

If you google things like "unique xyz" (whatever you are looking for) you'll find lots of unique sites.

Design Within Reach
The Artful Home
Museum of Modern Art
Kaas Glassworks
Lighting Universe (and many sister 'universe' sites)

Google is your friend :-)

Thanks whenicit- I actually google everything- and my friends call me google queen- but when I google stuff for decorating I never find some of the cool websites that I have on here. One website I found in a magazine - Shades of light - never comes up when I google lighting, and it has the most beautiful bell jar lanterns. I bought one for my staircase.

Carmela's is by far the best outfit I've ordered plants from. The plants come well-packed, of good size, and have done the best long-term in my collection. Eoom is next--wish their selection was bigger--followed by v.coerulea on ebay, then Carter and Holmes, whose stuff is small and young for the pot size. Alia

My favorite shop is is Great Finds and Designs a lovely high end- no junk here-consignment shop. The furniture and accessories are arranged in wonderfulroom settings which are always changing because things are always flying out of there. I overheard a designer picking up goods there to use at the symphony showhome a few years ago. Their prices are reasonable, I think because they do such a tremendous business, furniture being dropped off and being picked up every time I shop there. They were on Greenspring in Timonium, MD but they moved right before Christmas, I think- across the street or nearby but not sure. Need a shopping day soon I think. There are so many antique shops in the area I can't just pick one. There is antique row in Baltimore. A new fav of mine is the Good Life Market in Ellicott City MD. 2 buildings both incredible. Any shop in Ellicott City is not to be missed if you visit the area.It is an historic mill town and is quite charming.Home decor, antique, shabby chic, bakeries restaurants, new age shops,railroad museum. I am lucky enough to be able to hike down the historic trolley trail and visit( not for serious shopping though)

Bumblebeez, I do like Restoration Hardware lighting. I’m planning on using some of their flushmounts and pendants in other parts of the house. Lascatx, thanks for your thoughts. I may end up going with a cheap chandelier until I can get a feel for the space. I understand I threw this question out there in a vacuum, as you say. Part of the problem is I have no direction for the dining room. I haven’t found an inspiration room, we will be furnishing from scratch, and the room is not even constructed yet. I’m looking for a jumping-off point for the design I guess. I can’t describe what I’m looking for really, its one of those I’ll know it when I see it things. I’ll do a follow-up post if needed when I have some more concrete ideas. I was just hoping for some inspiration, I guess. bsmith1, we do seem to have similar tastes in lighting. I took a quick look at the Pinterest board you linked (I’m obsessed with Pinterest, by the way) and saw several chandeliers that I really liked and will be studying in more detail. I had forgotten about wayfair as a possible source. I’m going to follow your linked board, and I can’t wait to check out your other boards. susieq07, your lights are very different from each other, as you say, but both unique and interesting. I love finding pieces that are a bit unusual and not like everyone else’s. Thanks for sharing. Bronwynsmom, I think its hard to go wrong with a traditional fixture. The church I attended as a child had chandeliers similar to the Dutch style brass chandelier you posted, and I can remember spending a lot of time staring up and them and thinking how pretty they were. Let me know when you find a spot for the Rejuvenation light…I’d be interested to see that space! AnnieDeighnaugh, I agree and understand that a lot depends on the room into which the light will be placed. At this point, I’m really interested in seeing other people’s choices to see if anything stands out to me. Your chandelier looks great in your room; I think it is perfectly proportioned. Luckygal, thanks for the ideas. TonicHome looks like an interesting site that I’ll have to spend some time exploring. I look at pics on Houzz frequently, but had not thought to search “chandiers”- thanks for that idea. Those chihuly chandeliers are great! I’m leaning more towards installing a cheap fixture at first- as you say, changing out a light fixture is not usually a big deal, and my husband can handle the job. Chispa, I think that light will look great in your house as you describe it. sas95, your chandelier is beautiful. I hope you’ll post a picture once it is installed. It would be too modern for our house and my husband would never go for it, but I think its great. Beaglesdoitbetter, I’ll definitely check out eBay. I like all of your chandeliers- do you have any more info on the one from Shades of Light? On another note, we share a love of beagles. I always talk about my beagle helping me to make decisions about the house. His helping usually consists of sitting next to me on the couch with his head on my lap while we look at things on the computer (which is what he’s doing now, although my typing is disturbing him I think.) He also helped me through law school, and during that time he was known as the legal beagle. Anyway, enough raptures about Mr. Otis. patty_cakes, I agree that Murano fixtures are beautiful. Beasty, that light is so different and gorgeous! It wouldn’t work for my house and, again, my husband could never be talked into it, but in the right space it would be awesome. Bronwynsmom, I think we all have those could have would have should have moments. The chandelier does sound lovely.

another thing I thought of...

the search engine for GW isn't working so hot, but there have been "post your fav. catalog" threads before, so you might try using the search box at the bottom of the main page and see if it brings anything up.

I've added a lot of sites from previous threads like this that I have saved. Really helpful threads.

Source Perrier is a great website. A little pricey, but I have ordered a shepherd hook/hurricane before that was lovely. Great resource to get decorating ideas (they show different rooms decorated with their items.)

I love antiques so 1st Dibs is a favorite of mine. Sometimes just for fantasy shopping and sometimes for a real purchase. It's a conglomeration of antique stores from around the world :) It's very fun.

Spy10021- How often do you order from Restoration Hardware? I've ordered from them a few times over the past few years and it seems every time I order something it is on backorder. I'm currently awaiting for the other half of my kitchen knobs and pulls that I ordered in January. Very annoying- does this happen to anyone else?

Polly929 - I've never had problems with Restoration Hardware orders, but then again, I haven't placed a lot of orderes, since I have several Restoration Hardwares stores near me. Sorry to hear your experience.

My favorite is Napa Style. They also have a catalogue and 3 storefronts in California.
I've bought several things from their website including their heirloom kitchen island-like the one below. I get compliments on it all the time and most people think it's some cool French antique we found.

I totally second (or is it third?) 1st dibs -- got some great lighting from them as well as a beautiful 18th c. bureau and two 18th c. semainiers.

I also am fond of Vivre -- my all-time favorite coasters I found there. (no longer available, otherwise I'd link them)

And I lovelovelove Ruzzetti & Gow for bibelots -- I find lots of gifts (to give) there, as well as at Etsy.

I also like Source Perrier (which was already mentioned above), although I think they are reasonably priced. I've been really impressed with the quality of everything I've purchased there.

I'm not a big clothes shopper (girlfriends of mine seem to live to go to Neiman's -- pas moi!), but get me going on stuff for the house and I'm in danger. Ouch!
