Another DH Freebie!!!!!

Check out what DH brought home for me! I have no idea where I'll use it so it'll probably head to the basement for awhile but that's the way I role w/ Freebies. A customer gave it to DH. I don't know anything about it and it's probably not worth anything but I love the treatment. I could totally see it in somebody's eclectic room that had accents of rusty red.

It would look nice at the foot of a bed, with a pretty afgan placed on it. I love it!

I feel your pain...my DH is currently anti-painted cabinet. I plan on wearing him down, and possibly beginning the painting process while he's at work...but if I want to stay married, I'd like to at least know he'll be happy with the final result! I think gray would be really pretty! My only fear about coventry gray is that it could be a little dark, but I'm paranoid about dark rooms, especially since my home is low on natural light. It could be really classy; look forward to seeing how everything turns out. I normally start with a joke type ask...ie "Is there a three for one special price?" and they get the hint to bargain. Or you can say you're still shopping, and need to compare your options...if they can do something and want the sale they'll shoot in an offer here, or you can say "We're being featured in two magazines...do you want your name on the room?" and they'll take the offer for the advertising value. Or You can just say...How about a free sink with that countertop :) Just don't be a bummhead and say "I'm expecting a free sink or I'll walk" unless you really plan on walking! (and you get more flies with honey anyhoo)

They look great. They remind me of the ones I had as a kid. Are they mahogany? Personally unless you have a large room and/or tall ceilings I don't like foot boards with high posts. I wish I could saw off the brass ones on my bed.

Thanks all. Sharon, I just used the FM foot and sewed an "X" wherever I would normally tie it. I've done this before either with the FM foot or with the embroidery foot and using a decorative stitch, sewing one motif in each spot. The only hassle is I don't have an automatic thread cutter and that gets to be a pain to go underneath and cut the bobbin thread before moving on to the next spot.

Wow! I love it. I went for a global look in my office room and that would look great holding paper, ink cartridges, etc.

Love it! How big is it? Melaine from the blog My Sweet Savannah just posted a pic of a corner of her dining room where she placed an enormous wicker basket to hide a cooler for extra drinks for parties. I could see that trunk doing a similar job in a great room. Warning: that blog has music playing on it so if you're at work, don't click on it.

LOL laxsupermom! I was reading the same posting this morning! I'm not sure how big it is. It's the size of a typicl camel back steamer trunk. DH had it in the back of his truck and put it out back before work this morning. It's soooooo cold here that I wasn't hanging out any longer than need be.

Haha! It's super cold here, too. I don't blame you for not checking out the dimensions. It's a gorgeous piece, regardless. I wish freebies like that found there way to my home.

LaxSuperMom, thanks for the music warning. Though I'm at home I hate music on blogs even if it's music I like I like it quiet when I read so I always have to search it down and pause it. I know I could mute my sound, but then I forget later and miss the tones when someone wants to chat.

Ttodd, I don't blame you for not taking the time to measure in the cold. I doubt I would have gone out to take the picture myself and it's a balmy 31 degrees here now.

I love it...beautiful. Does it have a removable "tray" shelf inside? DH and I re-did one for our DD and she loves it..... and handy for storage, too. Good deal!

What a great DH you have and what a great find! Congratulations on both!

I have one similar. We keep all our wrapping paper, bows, gift tags in there. We painted the metal hardware black, then spray/dotted it lightly with hunter green. We covered the body with a grass mat from Pier One (or a similar store, don't remember the name) we cut up. It looks as good today as the day we finished it, over 30 years ago. I'm surprised how well it's worn.

Last night I was flipping through a showhouse spread and came across a great bedroom that had greyish/ taupey walls, an old globe collection and an accent of orange on the bed. Got me to thinking about Deedee's response and our boys game/tv/getaway from our annoying little sister room. I've never been able to finish it off. I was just never 110% sold on whatever look I started in there.

I have 2 wooden chairs that I posted here before when I painted them turquoise, an old globe collection and an oak table that has been looking for a permanent home in our house. DH has already retrofitted an antique bureau as a gaming place for the boys by converting the top drawer to a drop down front for the controllers and such.

I think I will try the trunk in that room for toys and paint those chairs w/ leftover orange paint that I have and paint the walls leftover BM Revere Pewtwer. Fingers Crossed!

That surface treatment is just delicious. You're going to keep that, yes? It's wonderful. Is it something like an ink spot treatment?
