I have been searching for info on mango espalier in the internet and I found a pdf document which has complete details about how to grow/harvest/prune short(truly short), healthy mango trees in the ground. Yes...in the ground. Since the tress are going to be really short, we can easily put a tarp on the top during winter freeze etc. I believe, the entire process is doable even by any amateur gardener like me. The document is from John Yoshimi Yonemoto, Japan Tropical Fruit Association. The entire document, I would say, is equivalent to taking a university course in the topic and thanks for their generosity in publishing the document. welcome :) lol.. i LIKE canada but i was born here so i guess i'm used to the snow. we're actually considering a move 10 hours north of where we are now (for job opportunities.. not the snow!) right now, we're about an hour and half from toronto. i saw your pictures from your other post. beautiful stuff!! i really loved the pieces of wood. i've never seen anything like that before. as far as glass cutting, i just use the running pliers and a ruler if i need squares and hope for the best. i don't use a lot of squares though.. usually just random shapes.

Hahaha I lurk at another forum, mostly the recipe site and would *never* think of joining. They snipe at one another constantly. Heaven forbid if someone asks them to re-post a recipe they missed! Here, when one of us here tries another member's recipe and gives it good reviews and others ask for the recipe; it gets posted, either by the member that tried it or another member. On that site, they quickly get told to use the Search button! Anyway, I joined here because of the warm and caring things that get talked about. Also the speed of getting answers to questions! I love that. Time is of the essence, you know! :-) What ticks me off royally, is that a lurker will make a snide response. Someone who doesn't post on a regular basis. It happened to me recently, and of course she didn't read everything that I had to say. Did she post on the birthday, sympathy, good wishes, recipe, picture, opinion threads? Nope just comes in to slam. She's not the only one of course. Some people post just post to be negative, or holier-than-thou. I'm not leaving, as I think this forum the best of any I've seen. Hot Topics scares the beejeebers outta me. I'd love to be able to have a normal discussion about things happening North America without it turning into a battle. So everyone, post away!

Tropicbreezent - HOLY COW! That's a big tree to pug but very cool. You do have an advantage. I'm in SW Florida... As a transplant, by way of Chicago, to me it FEELS like the tropics in summer but I'm still sub-tropics so I probably need to be a bit safer. Thanks so much for posting the pics; I feel better about pugging my tiny woody ones. Duly noted on painting the cuts. I'll hit the hardware store this weekend for white latex and then I'll wait to see these guys recovering before I think about cutting. Tony - That's really cool. I am not an intuitive person at all when it comes to gardening so I'd love to take classes! how many mangoes do you get from a tree the size in your picture? I'm trying to figure out in my mind how you balance keeping a tree small for picking while still big enough to get a lot of mangoes. I could have an 80 ft. tree in my space but I don't want to struggle to pick them or have 100s of rotting fruit on the ground when I don't pick them.
