It's a "Real teenage boys" room and I'm sure he must love it. I think it's great that he has what he wants.

This begs the question - what color is that gray on the walls. I'm looking at grays for my LR/DR and this looks similar to SW Lazy Gray.

What is it with teenaged boys and black?

Mine has all black accessories on the walls. I better not let him see the black blinds or he is sure to ask for them.

Funny story, though, when we remodeled I added new closet doors to all the kids rooms (2 daughters, 1 son). The girls both got mirrored closet doors which I thought too "feminine" for a boy so put in a white paneled door with nickel trim. Now I find him almost every morning in his sister's room checking himself out in her closet door. LOL

Now if we could only get him to keep it clean!

Sky - the gray is Woodlawn Colonial Gray by Valspar. I struggled to find the perfect gray, but this ended up being kind of a taupey gray. Once I put the black wood blind on the window, it made the room look a little more gray.

valinsv - That's funny. Since I have two boys, I never thought about putting mirrors in their rooms. My 13 year old spends alot of time in the bathroom looking in the mirror. My 18 year old, on the other hand, could care less.

Heh, teen boys and their black, but I have to say, with the red, it doesn't completely take over your son's room. We're waiting to close on our new house and our teen boys will be sharing a room so can't wait to see what they decide to do with it (although the room is sooo large, they can probably each claim half the room as their own space).

Very teenage boy decor! Do you - or he - know there are inexpensive wall mounts for guitars? Just don't hang the guitar over the bed unless he wants a broken nose (wanna guess how I know ? and he was in college!!!)

I've been waiting to see these pics!!! It's not the graffiti or the grunge we were talking about in the beginning (what were we thinking? LOL)- so much better and very soothing to the eye. Way to go Laurie and Justin (hope I was right with that name). Justin - where are all the broken decks? What? You don't keep them piled in the corner or hang them on the wall? Do you save them? Hmmm...somebody in my house was trying to convince me they would make exceptional wall art in his room.

roguevalley -What a good memory you have! I'm terrible with names even when I have a face to put with it. I actually would still love the graffiti and grunge. I just didn't feel like I had the talent or money to pull it off. I was watching one of the decorating shows recently and they made over the kitchen of this really funky young couple. They did a graffiti wall, which I wasn't that crazy about for the kitchen, but it would have looked so cool in a boy's bedroom. We have actually talked about putting some skateboards on the wall (new and broken), but I wasn't sure how to attach them. Since we have a Bulldog, this is one of the ones we thought about getting:

When I saw the first picture I thought it was the finished room and I was about to tell you how impressed I was and then I scrolled down to see it was the BEFORE picture! Ok, I like them BOTH. Love the red and black color scheme, even the posters coordinate! Perfect wall color, gives him the "look" without going to the extreme of painting walls black. Mom and son get an A+ for decorating.

Great teen boys room. My son is now 20 and in his own apartment, but he kept his red, white and black theme still. Only he updated it with new furnishing and decor from Ikea.

When he lived at home he fashioned shelves out of his old decks. He put up those metal strips that have the brackets that hook into them...am I describing that right? He painted them black then set his old decks on them as shelves.

Broken decks he attached to his headboard and we made a cornice board and attached them to that.

I never did get pics, sorry. Bet your son loves his room.

Wow, Laurie, you two really pulled that off well! It's definitely gone from little boy to teenaged boy and it's pretty cool. Nice work!

Having recently finished my own DS room in November, I applaud you! (I got the same kind of talk about people "reading into" my qustions about decorating his room and thinking I was not letting him decorate how he wanted). I think you both did a great job. We have the guitars too. Snowboards instead of skateboards! I would love to know more about the wall hangers for the guitars! Very cool room!

Laurie - you could always just turn Justin and his buddies loose in the room with a bunch of spray cans of paint. :):) oh man, that would be the best day of my son's life! Scary.

The guitar hangers are like coat hooks that the neck of the guitar fits into. I think my son's was wood. Google guitar hangers & a bunch will come up. He got his at the guitar store. It keeps the guitars off the floor and a little safer providing they hang them up! Of course, his girlfriend stepped on one of his that was not not hung up - also in college - his guitars took a beating living the college life, as did most everything.
