cant believe I deleted them

I can't believe it I was doing something in my email the other day, came across some pictures in a folder and hit delete. Some how and don't ask me how I deleted a bunch of folders. Recipes, misc information, accounts information. Oh I am kicking myself over and over.

DH did a restore and I don't know if he didn't do it right or what but they didn't come back.

I hate Windows Live Mail. I hated it last April when we bought this new computer, I've gotten used to it I think?? But still hate it!

I am not sure what all even got deleted I am sure a lot more than my recipes. But I had years of recipes in a folder!

Urgh.

I somehow lost all of my pictures, but the folders remain.

Mysteriously one day there were 2 icons for pictures on the screen instead of the ususal 1. I just deleted one of them. The next time that I opened pictures none were there. I did restore twice but nothing helped. I have not contacted a pro yet. I am so technically challenged.

Flowergirl, the nana dwarf nandina died? I got one too, it was in pot in basement last winter. But I read and read and it claims it loses leaves at 10 degrees, but it's supposedly hardy to zone 5.. no??? I used to have a ton on Malva Zebrina, from seed. This year one survived, in a wierd spot from a bird. The rabbits ate most. At this point in the year, I don't know if it will have time to flower (and get more seeds).. .the rabbit tore away at it.. Garden mags, like aimekitty...don't get me started. lois, years ago I got 3 bouncing betty soapworts. Yes, they are double, yes fragrant, they take over the yard and then some... And the plants I bought, and just don't have the energy to put in... or the rabbits eat so they are in pots... I too DESPISE STAKING, and so much this year wanted...something... Update - still working on it. With it being summer, a lot of people are on vacation and it makes contacting the right person difficult. Also, the banks don't want to release the information so I'm having to really push them for information. I think part of the issue is that the company/bank that siezed the merchandise didn't follow the proper channels and file with the town so they aren't really willing to admit that they didn't do it correctly. Rubyfig- thanks for the tip. One of the banks is public, so I'll try it. The other is a government loan for business, and we all know how easy the government is to work with... I'll be back with more information in a few days.

Dearheart, there is nothing that cannot be fixed. It's just a question of how many $$$$. I have a Koehler "Hawthorne" cast iron farm sink. It's 150lbs, Roussalain red. It sat on my garage floor for 2 years. (Thank you, my STBX) A floor that was flooded several times when the water softener overflowed, condensation, etc. By the time I got it installed the underside was rusting & the bowl had kind of a slice in it. I called Koehler to ask what I could do to seal the underside, knowing the scratch was our own fault. They had no touch-up kits anymore, but they could replace the sink. This is built into only counter I have & I can't take that out. They sent me a whole new sink. I have it in the barn. You never know. They might send you a whole new face panel! Good luck. Christine

Sorry to hear about that. If you don't like windows live mail use yahoo or aol, they are both free.

Did you also delete them from your "Deleted" folder? If not, they should be in there.

Did you check your recycle bin? If you delete stuff, it goes there first. It only goes for good when you empty the recycle bin.

Unless it's email. Check your deleted items folder.

Another reason why you need to remember to BACK IT ALL UP all the time. Buy an external hard drive. Put everything on it. My computer has nothing on it, except my programs that I own discs for and can reload.

I don't like most Microsoft programs, but that's another thread.

When you delete mail, it's not necessarily gone. Much depends on what you're willing to do to recover it. There's programs to assist like Recuva, and others. When you delete email, it's not actually erased - it is only the file entry that's removed.

I presume you didn't have a backup?

And with anything pre-Windows 7, a system restore will not recover files. All system restore is on the older versions is a glorified registry backup, and frankly not very good at that either.

A Windows "Restore" was not the proper thing to do in this case. Most email utilities have a "trash" bin in which deleted messages fall into. These messages are not gone until the trash has been dumped. To retrieve a trashed messsage, move to the trash bin, highlight the desired message and then click on "file" (Not the file betton in the upper left of the frame) or "move" button. A drop down menu appears asking which folder you do you wish to move the messages to?

I understand. Recently lost a ton of pics, tried recuva, but no luck, they,re out there somewhere. It,s upsetting.

is there anything we can can help with via recipes?

i'd be sick over the photos...that's why i use snapfish...with my first digital camera they're all on disks...(good luck on me ever down-loading those, sigh)

Deleted items was deleted also.
I don't think the email going into the recycle bin.

Windows Live Mail does not use the recycle bin. It has its own trash area. However as said they may be recoverable.

If it's a big thing, you might want to look for someone with some experience in recovering data. The longer you go, the more difficult it will be to recover using basic methods and accordingly the price will skyrocket.

as mentioned I often recommend Recuva however you may want to look at this free option it may work.
