Countertop Help Soapstone and Wood or just Soapstone

Cabinets are in and I still don't have a countertop. I'm looking at soapstone. I have a small "L" shaped peninsula on which I originally wanted one arm to be soapstone and the other (the side that will have the overhang for a small breakfast bar) wood, but the finish carpenter is talking me out of it. He thinks the peninsula would be a great place to showcase the stone. I had orginally planned on having the eating side raised, but somewhere along the line changed that and am now thinking that may have been the better option.

What do you all think. I have a couple of pictures of the peninsula, but neither are great. Cost is also a factor, I'm getting to the end of a whole house remodel and already over budget, but now that I've seen the cabinets, I just can't imagine anything but soapstone for me. One surface rather than two may end up being a little cheaper. Thanks for any input or ideas. This forum is incredible. I haven't posted much, but am here getting ideas every day.
