Why is there a loud pop sound when JD 125 engine is shut down?
Comments (14)I don't know if the core of what I have been trying to say is clear, or not. But Bill did hit on a different way of saying it. Once a long time ago, there was no such thing as an anti-afterfire fuel solenoid on any brand of outdoor power. Back in those days, everybody's outdoor power engines might pop if you shut them down without a short cool down idle period. Some engines and applications did not pop as much as others, due to different configurations of the exhaust muffler or length of exhaust pipe. Then suddenly, back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the anti-afterfire solenoids began to appear. So, the only way to solve your problem is to have a true professional, well experienced, small engine technician/mechanic evaluate your old tractor and tell you whether or not the tractor ever has an anti-afterfire solenoid on it. If you can remember a time when it did not pop when you shut it down, there may be hope that there is something faulty with an existing solenoid. But if the tractor never was equipped with the anti-afterfire solenoid valve system in the first place, then you are going to have to spend some money to have it retrofitted to behave like a modern tractor. It's kind of like if you want a 1935 Chevrolet with air conditioning on it, you are going to have to pay someone to put it on there because they did not have air conditioned cars back then....See MoreMy Modern-Aire/Abbaka is LOUD--please help!
Comments (9)How large is the duct, how is it routed (straight out the back, up and 90 degree bend, etc), and how far is it from the hood to the Abbaka? A silencer will be about 3 feet long, and about 4 inches larger in diameter than your duct. It should make a significant, if not tremendous, difference in sound level. Maybe something is loose and rubbing the squirrel cage in the blower, or some other mechanical failure. That might be evident if the cover can be removed for inspection. I see on their web site that Abbaka has a 7 year warranty, in case that helps. As far as more insulation, search gardenweb for "dynamat", which is a thin ( about 1/15th inch) rubber/metal foil product, most often used inside car door panels and trunks to decrease road noise and fix rattles, but can also be wrapped around your duct. I don't think you need that much coverage to dampen out some of the tinny vibration transmission, if that is what you have. It is rather pricey, at about $5/sq ft. Comments (1)I will say this scenario is always troublesome! It is costly and hard to figure out and once i couldn't locate the cause do to the age of the system, time and money, The customer went with a new system. That's how hard this problem can be. The vibration is normally caused by metering devices and or capillary tubing. You have 2 metering devices on a heat pump. One is located in the outside condenser the other in the evaporator coil. Many times this problem is caused by the outside condenser metering device. you said this vibration started upon replacing your evaporator coil. I would have your A/C guy check to see if this evaporator coil has a TXV metering valve. It probably has a piston. I would check the piston for correct size and maybe even go to a larger size or your contractor can get a conversion TXV kit and take out the metering piston. The next thing I would attempt if that did not solve the problem I would start from scratch. Get a new filter freon drier, Reclaim the refrigerant I would get goodman to replace the coil under warranty do to extreme vibration of freon and get a TXV metering kit to replace the piston. I would check the outside condenser piston and make sure it is clear. I would blow nitrogen through the condensing coil to make sure everything is clear. I would recharge the system with new freon and hope it solves the problem. Good luck....See MoreNeighbor's air conditioner makes a loud humming sound
Comments (31)This just happened to me. The sound is blaringly loud and low, and it woke me up around 6am and lasted for about 10 minutes. It sounds like it's coming from the apartment above, and it's loudest in the bathroom (no windows, it's in the center of my apartment). When it shuts off it sounds like a switch is flipped and it powers down quickly. It basically permeates my entire little apartment, but the sound is also really loud by the front door so it's hard to even say where it is coming from. I thought it might be a blender or something but it's not as loud in the kitchen. It drives me insane, only happens early morning so I assume my upstairs neighbor is using something that causes it. I thought maybe a shaver?!?! But nobody's shaver is THAT loud. Everyone talks about "the hum" and electronics, but this sound is so LOUD and coming from within the building. It's not coming from the windows....See Morecountryboymo
