I love the changes. The new bedding looks so refreshing. I like your idea of a pedestal table with white flowers for the corner. You are on your way to a beautiful room.

Love your bedroom! You have the perfect mix of using what you have and bringing in the white color, shells, and photos to make it refreshing and beachy. I wanted to tell yout that I love your roman shade because it looks like it is hung on your rod. Maybe I'm clueless, but I thought you could only do that with "magic shades", the kind without cords. Can you tell me where you got it from? Thanks!

The changes are beautiful. What a difference. What about a large plant in your bare spots? Also, I think the beige pillow on the bed is too weak a color. I think if you get a couple of red pillows for the bed it would help pull the red to that side of the room. I also think you need a couple of touches of black in your accents to help pull all the colors together. If that little table in the alcove is not a pricelss antique, you might want to start by painting it a satin black.

I just remmebered you said you wanted beachy. I think if you want beachy you'll have to do some major furniture redo's, like paint some or all of it white. See what others say on this. I've never decorated a room in beachy, so I'm not an expert.

Right now the red is throwing me off on the beachy theme also. That's why I was going for the things to compliment it.

I'm not sure if you are trying to go 'beachy' or 'nautical' with the room. There needs to be some touches of red from the chaise brought into other parts of the room to balance the chaise so it is not just a flaming red chaise drawing the eye to it. Toning the chaise down with the matching bed pillows was a great move. The bed needs a third color - a touch of red. The beige throw gets lost with all the other strong elements. How about a striped red throw to mimic the stripes in the beach chair and umbrella in the poster? Its subtle but would really pop the beach/nautical theme to the bed.

Sorry, but the red chaise does not say beachy to me. The after pictures of the bed area are wonderful but then I lose the feeling in the other part of the room. The mirror does not say beachy and the boat to me looks wrong in a bedroom and the dresser decor somehow just doesn't speak to me. The little table in the corner looks too ornate for the massive bed and the floor lamp looks too sleek for a beachy look. It makes me feel bad to be so negative, especially since I don't have any positive suggestions, except to cover or reupholster the chaise in a light "beachy" fabric that will coordinate with the bed and to replace the lamp, perhaps for one that has some white wood in it to go with the bed and which has more of a beach cottage look. A mirror with a white wood frame might also be a good idea. The changes you've made between the first and second picture are very impressive, and if you can continue to follow that theme you'll have a wonderful room. I don't agree about the red accents, it's very serene and wonderful without any red in the room; if anything I'd introduce small touches of blue. Good luck with whatever else you decide to do.

Thank you all for you comments and suggestions! Maybe I am mistaken by saying "beachy". I guess what I mean is casual, eclectic. I love color and I am not looking for an "all white with a little subdued color throw in" look. I like bold color and lots of it! I'm also not looking to lock myself into a style, I like an eclectic look. I do have a lot of shells in my home, as well as boats and lighthouse paintings. So that is why I said beachy. So, with that said..

Joannie38 - I love these Romans, yes they have a rod pocket and hang via a rod. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond, however I believe JC Penney has them to. They only come in a few sizes though. I will say that I wouldn't use them on a window that I planned to open and close a lot, simply because they slide on the rod as you open and close them. (I need to find a way to prevent this).

Brutuses - we are thinking about a plant, but wondering if it will get enough light in that corner. Any large plants that you know of that do well in shade? I still have my original red pillows, I'll throw one on the bed to see if I like it, but I really like the bed as is. I have red in the poster that hangs on the other side of the room to tie in the chaise, plus the boat on the dresser has red in it too. I think I'm happy with the amount of red in the room. Maybe a pedestal table in that empy corner in black would help to bring in more black? I was going to go with white, but maybe it should be black istead?

Dilly Dally - I like that throw, where can I get it?

Ingrid VC - I went with the ss lamp and mirror as I couldn't find anything else in white. The lamp was cheap and I could easily replace it if I find something nicer. This is the 2nd mirror that I've tried for this space and I do like it. I'm not thrilled with the dresser decor either, but I'm not sure how to improve it yet.

Something about the dresser arrangement looks a little off to me; I think it may be having the boat in the middle. What if you put the boat on the small table near the chaise (instead of the candle that's there now), that way the red in it would tie in with the chaise. And then leave the center of the dresser empty.

I think a large plant would look good in that corner.

First of all, please don't take offense to my "fussiness"! :)
I have a friend who is an interior designer and she has tried to teach me a thing or two because I need help all the time! I'll start with the dresser. I agree with too much stuff on the dresser. To me it would look much better without the boat and the jar of rocks is way too tall and out of scale. Maybe put the wooden box next to the two candles and the picture by itself on the right side, and take the boat and rocks out completely. Think about the "weight" of the items and try to balance your arrangement. I always use the rule: "one, three, but never two" for groupings. Its the same in landscaping...amazing what a difference it makes. I would also paint the dresser black. Other suggestions I would make is to paint the ceiling area where the red chair is the same color as your walls.
If your space allows I would reposition the chair so that it is not stuck angled perfectly in the corner, and I would remove that little table and put it to the right of your bed with a lamp on it, because your bed with window looks a bit out of balance, and the little table just looks out of scale in the chair area and as if it doesn't belong there. Also might think about painting the little table one of your accent colors. If you're going to use cream, white, and green in there I would stick with black or deep chocolate as another accent color and forget red altogether. It would be nice to see something in the room that wasn't "square", ...maybe something round on the wall like a big clock.
Maybe the red is throwing me off. You have not repeated it anywhere else in the room so the room is not tied together. I think with accent colors you need to repeat them two or three times. Your black frames look great in there. Black is a good accent color for the room. Don't know about the red at all. With your green pillows it looks like you are trying to go "monochromatic" and the red throws it totally out of kilter. Maybe you have nothing else to use like most of us so could even look into draping the chair with something or also cushion covers. Sorry don't mean to tear your room apart! It's lovely.
