I always ask as the pickup window if I got the correct amt, and they look at the pkg and say YEP.

Pays to check yourself and open the pkg.

It's a nationwide pharmacist.

Your pharmacy tech shorted you 60, and the pharmacist who double checked the prescription didn't notice? That's just wrong.

Sorta scary that a pharamist can't count. Hope he's better with the other calculations.

It was the man at the drive-thru who looked at the pkg and said YEP.

I noticed it cause it was not in the usual container that all 90 were supposed to be in.

IT was a white container, with a label that said 30 and the top was sealed with the foil, when you took the top off. I knew from shaking it that I only had 30.

Someone mistakenly put the prescription label over it, thinking there were 90, duh.

You should have had them mail them to you at home. That is really scary.

Will they give you it free or a credit for your next presription? My pharmacy once gave me a credit when they accidentally gave me the wrong medicine. (I was suppose to get an antibiotic but got some antipsychotic drug with a similar name instead)! Good thing I read the details of the drug before I took it.

I'd talk to the manager of the store; there's no reason you've had 3 major errors in a year. Although it could be incompetence, it could also be someone working there skimming medicine from the customers so they can sell it themselves.

it is not that uncommon and often people don't even check. several yrs ago i read an article on all of the fake script drugs on the market passing DEA & FDA inspections and about how many 'altered' scripts there are in commerce, estimates are 20-30% fake. it was downright scary, so now i always check! there have been 2 large scale warehouses busted in FL alone as drug altering operations. these drugs are often not made in the US and come into ports, was the cases in FL, where they are shipped to warehouses and cut and watered down and repackaged. pills are even ground down, cut in strength and reformed and put back into bottles. there have been several instances in the last 2 yrs where liquid drugs were altered to be so dilute they were ineffective and also contaminated. anyway it made me paranoid so i check ea and every pill for the correct stamp, color and size for my allergies and all of my dogs' pills too. ~ liz

I'll pick up the extra 60 tomorrow.

That s**ks, glad you noticed. I LOVE my pharmacy, they even call to see how we are doing on new meds. Will always catch something that will interact with other meds. Can I tell you how much I love them! lol

That is one reason I deal with a small pharmacy this one connected to the medical center. I have a CVS in the area, but they are higher and I just plain don't care for their attitude. Others are nicer. Will use it when traveling.

The only times I've ever been shorted was because the Pharmacy only had a limit supply on hand. He filled what he could & ordered the rest. He let me know what he had done as he was checking me out.

He said it does happen sometimes to get shorted, but it's usually because someone wasn't doing their job. The Pharm Tech does the first count & the Pharmacist is required to do the second count. If that's not done, that's when mistakes are made.

I'm so glad you caught the mistake!

My DH picked up a script for me a few months ago... I opened the bag when he got home and the bottle was empty! They realized they had did it, so it was no problem getting it filled. Scary though, and this is a compounded medicine so the pharmacy is a half hour away, if it wasn't on my DH's way home from work it would have been quite inconvenient to have went back.

My small pharmacy has shorted me twice in the last few years. The last time it was a very strong antibiotic and I ran out 3 days before the 10 days were up. I took the bottle in and the pharmacist gave me the 3 days worth and a big apology.

There are two CVS pharmacies near us. We began having problems like this with the one we had been using for about 5 years, so switched to the new one after they opened. What a difference! Such professionalism, helpfulness, etc.

Glenda, I would seriously consider a new pharmacy if I were you. Three errors in one year is a terrible record.

My pharmacy has had trouble counting too. Shorted by 14 tabs once. My DH is on 7 meds and one time they only refilled six. It was soon after his stroke and he wouldn't have picked it up if I hadn't been there and counted as they were put in the bag. He would have just assumed that the MD took him off it if he had noticed it at all.

I know how you feel! That has happened to me again and again. I have been going to this pharmacy (locally owned) since I was first married. My parents patronized this pharmacy also. The father owned it when my parents shopped there and then the son took over when his father retired. I do not remember that my parents ever had a problem, but I sure have since the son took over. It is a nightmare sometimes. They have lost prescriptions also. Sometimes the Dr. will write me a prescription before the old one runs out when I am in his office for a visit. I use to take it down to my pharmacist to "hold" and enter the info in his computer. I have learned NOT to do that. Plus, they sometimes do not have enough pills to fill my whole prescription, or will short me some of my pills. Also, they get an attitude when I call them on things. I try to be very nice about the mistake, but maybe I am not being nice enough. I am not going to leave them because in other ways the son is so good to us. He has opened up his pharmacy to fill an emergency prescription for my husband or myself, on holidays or in the middle of the nite, or brought physical care items to our home for us. Plus my oldest child is best friends with their son, so it makes for a sticky situation.

My advice if you do not want to change pharmacist is to always count you med's. It is a hassle, but the alternative is paying for something you haven't got, or not having enough med's to last. :-(

Pharmacies should be ashamed to make such simple errors as counting. If they can't count, they sure can make worse errors as well. So this is a reminder to us all to pay attention to our prescriptions when we receive them.

Be very careful to count all of your drugs to see that you get the correct amount especially those like pain pills or tranquillizers that can be sold on the street. Shorting you some pills is much more common than you think.

Gosh, I never count. I do mostly mail prescriptions. Three months supply at a time. I guess I should start counting the pills.

I used to a work at a group home for mentally ill folks and we had a pharmacy that would deliver medi-sets with the boxes Morning/Noon/Night already filled with the medications. We, the staff, had to go through every single box in every medi-set for 65 people every week because there were always soooo many mistakes. Pills left out altogether, double doses, completely wrong pills, etc. Mistakes that could have seriously harmed people had they not been caught. People should always check their meds before taking them...pharmacy staff are humans too and make errors all the time, and can be careless sometimes too considering the importance of their job, IMO.

We usually get a three-month supply of our meds; in fact, our plan requires that "maintenance" meds such as ours for high blood pressure and high cholesteol, be ordered thru the mail for a three-months' supply. HOWEVER, I still count them to be sure we've gotten 90 pills. Once or twice over the years, we were "shorted", but the company took our word and sent the amount of pills needed to make up the difference.

What I like about their system is that they will contact our doctor when we need a prescription renewed--a fax or two between them and the doctor and it's done. Takes lots less time than for me to call the doctor, have the prescription mailed to me, and then I mail it to the company.

Always Always Alway always look at your prescriptions and count your pills. Pharmacies are required to keep good records of inventory. If they make a mistake, let them know. My sister is a pharmacist. She had a customer come in with ten prescriptions (for her elderly mother). When the customer got home, there were only 9 bottles. She had no idea which medicine was missing. My sister did a quick inventory and found one pill supply that was "over" by 90 pills. She concluded that was the missing one. .

Picked up the remaining 60 pills, today.

It might be good when you get a presc to take one of the pills and put it on the scanner and keep a file of how they should look instead of guessing just a thought

My CVS is great! Very professional. They even call the DR if something isn't covered by my insurance to see if the DR wants to switch meds. Very rarely do the not have something in stock, but if that happens they will call other pharmacies if I don't want to wait till the next day. I have been thinking of sending corporate a compliment. I think I'll do it right now!

We have that problem w/ drive through fast food places. And also w/ getting the wrong change in a drive through. Most people don't check their change, but after it happening a few times, we check it now!

Ever since Rite Aide gave my son someones heart pills instead of his acne meds I open the containers up right at the counter and look~~~~my son would never have noticed that at his age stupid people!!

i've been blessed with great people at target...between dh and i we have about 8 scripts, and they know us by name, now...only time i've been short was when they didn't have enough, and it's alway been filled with the next shipment...

A few years ago, I had the same problem with a Rite-Aid pharmacy dept - several times, maybe 5 or 10 pills each time.

Forget reporting to the store manager, they might be in on the scam....report to the company that owns the store - that's what I did, and the pharmacist was gone shortly later.
