I think you should move it back next to the window and put a plant on it! A nice fern would be perfect. In my opinion, the table is too small to be of any functional use as a side table next to a chair. If you had a guest come to your home and sit there with a drink, or plate of food - there's not enough room on the table for the book/decor and to sit a glass etc.

If you want a table there, I just think it needs to be big enough to be functional. I've never been a huge fan of decor for appearance sake only. If it's just for display and no one would ever sit there and want to use the table as a side table, I guess it would work great!

I would add a larger piece of glass to make the top bigger, or even a decorative tray of some kind, or a mirror top. Not only for functionality, but also because the top looks kind of skimpy compared to the visual weight of the legs on the bottom. An added top that is a few inches wider all the way around will help the visual balance issue and make it more useable at the same time.

I would want a short table next to a chair like that, more convenient for the user.
Your table is rather tiny but I like Les' suggestions of adding a slightly bigger top, Pier One used to have precut glass rounds suitable for that purpose.

Cute, but I would use it somewhere else. It's also too similar to the one behind it (actually, it looks like there's another open/leggy piece in the foyer next to the door).

I liked it before - I have a similar small table next to a chair, used for a book or a drink. It is incredibly useful and looks great with my chair. Mine was part of a 3 grouping plant stand. I think your table was perfect before adding the top & the height appears to be fine.

Ditto for thinking it's fine as-is. I like the height, it looks like it would be a comfortable height for putting a glass on from a sitting position, but it's not so low that it looks sawn-off. ;-) I like the mixture of open and leggy with squat and heavy furniture throughout. I don't have a problem at all with a somewhat conical overall profile instead of a perfect cylinder, since for me a wider base just "feels" more stable. IMO the books on top do absolutely nothing for the functionality, but it would be easy enough to put the books on the lower shelf and have a small decorative object and an especially nice coaster ;-) on top. (I am not of the "thou shalt leave no surface without tchotchkes" school of thought, so if it were my house it would just have a beautiful coaster! Something like a wood-framed vintage - but not valuable - tile, handmade metalwork, something like that.) I hope the tray is just to show the general dimension you're considering rather than being a permanent addition, because the raised lip doesn't increase the effective diameter of the tabletop - you still can't set more down on it without the item being partially on the middle section and partially on the raised rim.

I dunno about the OP but to me an armless chair of that type isn't exactly a "curl up and read a book with a cuppa" anyway. For parties when people need to sit down with plates and drinks, a little table could be set aside and replaced temporarily with larger, attractive tray tables so that a couple of people could use each one.

I think I have figured it out. I have moved the table to the other side and let it as is... without the tray top.

I will probably redocrate the top but not sure with what yet. The little glass thing that sits on top of the books is meaningful to me. It contains gold from Alaska and we got it on a trip there. It is beautiful when shaken! I will see what might suit the tabletop as decor. So hard with little things like this!

I like the table just as it is size wise, I like it best on right side of picture and I think keep it light on top, no more than one book. Looks good as it is last picture!
