Good heavens!! 5 years and it died???
Mine is a GE and easily 23 years old....and going strong. Don't use it often....but it still works fine.
What brand is yours....so we know what NOT to buy!

I have two. One is a Villaware, I've had it for 6 or 7 years, works great but it's bulky and hard to store. IT makes waffles shaped like cows, chickens, pigs and barns, I use it when the grandkids come to stay.

Momto4kids sent me one that she had, it was too small for her family. It's a Krups, and it's perfect to make waffles for Elery and I. It's small and doesn't take up valuable storage space and works great, I really like it. I don't know how old it is, though.

Isn't a Belgian waffle iron different than a regular one? Or is it just the batter for the thicker puffy Belgian waffles that's different?

The one I have is a Villaware, too. Yes, Annie, the Belgian waffles are those thicker, puffy waffles and that specific type of waffle iron makes them about 1" thick. We like the waffles very crispy.

Linda, they don't make them like that any more. At all.

Amazon has a bunch of them, most with fairly decent reviews, but a lot of the reviews are after using it once or twice. That doesn't help at all. That's why I asked.

We have the Waring Pro - its about our third waffle maker. It has survived multiple cleanings/repair by DH, grin. It is our keeper since it beeps at the appropriate times - when it is warmed up, and when the waffle is done. It is the only waffle maker that we have found with an audible indicator instead of a light, so we don't have to keep an eye on it.

If you want crisp waffles, try joanm's 'Waffles of Insane Greatness' with cornstarch. It is our go-to waffle recipe.

Thanks, Jessy! What does your husband repair and how does he do it? I think I'll take the back off my iron and see what I see.

We've had the Waring Pro for about 6-8 years with no problems. It gets used about 5-6 times/year. Like Jessy, we also like the appropriate beeps & the many crispness settings.

We also have the Waring Pro. Highly recommend it. The girls bought it for Wayne for father's day about 4 years ago. It gets used frequently, usually on Sunday mornings. And sometimes when we want breakfast for dinner. It turns out the most golden brown, crispy waffles. We use the "Waffles of Insane Greatness" recipe. NancyLouise

I remembered this being discussed on Appliances a while back, and Chef's Choice WafflePro got some strong recommendations. I just checked and the WafflePro Express was also Cook's Illustrated's top pick in their 2010 testing
