Welcome. Gardening can be a lot of work. I can understand crying over the loss of remaining watermelon plants, but you will learn to deal with the setbacks. Nothing tastes as god as something right out of your garden. Couple weeks ago I picked over 8 pounds of green beans. Delicious! Blanched & froze 12 packets of 4 servings for winter. Mmmmmm. Good luck. Maybe buy some netting to cover small plants to protect from rabbits/deer/etc.

Backwoods Flank Steak We love flank steak and have used it many ways. Here's the recipe we marinated it in when we had the deli. It was a huge seller. In the summer we did 25 lbs worth at a time. Never had any left to pitch. We grilled it over lump charcoal and while it was cooking we would bring the marinade to a boil and cook it for about 15 min. We then sliced the steaks and poured the hot marinade over them. Backwoods Flank Steak 3/4 C soy sauce 1/3 C Pickapeppa Sauce 1/3 C worcestershire sauce 1/4 C red wine 1/4 C red wine vinegar 1 1/2 Tabsp sesame oil 2 cloves of garlic, crushed 2 flank steaks (about 2 1/2 lbs total) Combine the marinade ingredients in a container large enough to hold the steaks. Add the steakes and refrigerate 6 to 24 hrs... Nancy

The kids' schools often give extra credit if you wear a costume for a presentation so we are always going to good will to transform them into one thing or another. We take it home, wash it, wear it, wash it and donate it right back since it is usually not normal attire. I do still regret sometimes, re-donating this fabulous, dashing black velvet cape with a vivid red silk lining and frog closures. Hi Sue and Laurel! Sue I did get my furnace fixed and it is working great. When the furnace didn't come on when it got cooler out my boss thought it might be the thermostat since I wasn't seeing a spark like I normally did. I went out and bought a digital programmable thermostat and a friend put installed it for me. When the furnace still didn't come on my boss came over and checked out the thermostat to see if it was installed right (it was) and he checked the furnace. I thought the pilot light was out but when Mark removed the cover we could hear it. He fiddled with some wires but the furnace still wasn't coming on. My furnace is over 38 years old but it worked great still and even better since my friend and her husband cleaned the blower for me last winter. I called heating and cooling company where my 2nd cousin is a co-owner because I thought that way I would get good service and not be told that I needed to replace the furnace or have unneccessary repairs. My 2nd cousin doesn't know me at all except from meeting at funerals so I was surprised when I was given a discount on the service charges. Turned out the gas valve was stuck and needed to replaced and the thermal coupler needed replacing. The kid worked on the furnace for over 2 hours and said that my furnace would last many more years since it was in great condition. I know it is not energy efficient but I keep the temp in my house low and a new furnace is not in my budget at this time. I really do like the new thermostat though because my furnace doesn't run as much as it used to. Oh my gosh, I just saw my first snow flakes out the front window! Anne
