According to literature that can be downloaded on the Miele website: "An independent study, conducted by WfK Applied Laundry Research Institute in Krefeld, Germany, proves that your valuable wardrobe will be cleaner and last up to four times longer if cared for in a Miele washing machine with a Honeycomb DrumTM. " The claim sounds rather far-fetched to me (four times longer???), but it would be interesting to see the actual test data. I have a Miele W1918 washer (a model from pre-honeycomb days). I can assure you from first-hand experience that clothing stays newer-looking for longer and lasts much longer with regular washings in my Miele. I have undershorts and white tee-shirts that are going on 7 years old -- and still look good, even after close to weekly wear and laundering. I attribute the long wear to the superior cleaning these items get in the Miele extended wash program. The extended programs ensure that fabrics are thoroughly cleaned right down to the core of fibers. With no soil left behind in the material to grind away at the very fibers of the fabric, they just hold up better. My tee-shirts don't have even a hint of grey in the armpits and they haven't taken on that weird sort of transluscent look that tee-shirts usually get after many repeated, but less-thorough, washings. But -- back to the Miele wash drum. I think the more important feature of the Miele drums are that the fins inside the drum are stainless steel too. Most other washers have plastic fins which can get knicked by zippers and buttons over time. Once abraded, a plastic fin can snag on delicate fabrics and cause damage. Stainless steel won't knick, and in fact, just gets smoother over time.

If someone hits this discussion like I did: Stacking Washer & Dryer MUST be same manufacturer and same model line to keep warranty from getting voided. Even if you have a washer and dryer from same brand don't stack them until you contact the manufacturer. Get it in writing, at least an email, from their customer care stating that you can stack the dryer (include model number) on the washer (include model number). I had to contact GE to verify if I could stack a GE GFD85E dryer on a GE GFW650 washer without voiding warranty. They stated the stacking unit is the same for the GE Ultrafresh washers & matching GE Smart dryers series- 550/ 55, 650/ 65, 850/ 85. If I had tried to put a LG dryer on my GE washer then that would definitely be grounds for GE & LG to tell me my warranty is voided.

mysteryclock I just had my Axxis dryer fixed once and for all. What an ordeal. Really would have been easy if I got the right repairman right off the bat. I've been all over this forum trying to figure out what has been up with my machine. I knew it wasn't right. It just took forever to dry and then eventually i kept getting this huge puddle of water under the machine after a while. It was drying sometimes and acting funny at others. Ultimately after 4 service calls and replacing all the parts on the entire dryer, it turned out to be the heater. For anyone with a condensation dryer, i cannot stress this enough- get your machine checked once in a while. I had 4 blissful years with it and it was telling me gently that something was wrong by slowly wigging out. If i would have had it looked at when it was just acting weird, I would have had to replace far less! I got a GREAT Bosch tech, who i would highly recommend to anyone in the LA/Pasadena area. It took me a while to find him but he fixed the problem in less than an hour once he diagnosed it. If anyone wants to have their Bosch or other German appliance fixed, call Ricky at Appliance Masters. I've heard some of their techs are not so hot. This guy was a senior tech and he was the best. After all the drama with this machine and service call after service call, i'd say this guy has a halo and angel wings! He fixed it in less than a hour once the parts were ordered. These high end German appliances are great unless something is off. I have had probably 5 repairmen with my various German appliances in the last 6 months. All of the good ones said the same thing- great appliances unless you are having a problem with them. I guess the moral of the story is- it's better to pay a bit to maintain and get check ups once in a while rather than wait until the machine goes up in flames or in my case out in a puddle of vaguely warm water. All it needed was a new heater, not a complete overhaul, which i wound up with anyway. In my house full of Gaggenau, Liebherr and Bosch, call me converted. I'm going to get these insanely expensive appliances looked at frequently so they stay calibrated. It seems to make all the difference in the world. I'm humbled and feel kind of bad that this was such a colossal headache. I still love my washer and dryer. It's the best purchase I've made, with a close second being the Gaggenau dishwasher. I love me some German appliances!!

We bought our Samsung FL last summer (end of June or first week or so of July, can't recall exact date) 2012 and it's still running great. In fact, I'm still totally in love with this machine. We bought the WF331ANR (this was the model number sold at AAFES). The only issue we had was within the first three months the lock broke. It wasn't great to begin with but I accidentally yanked on it when it was locked (not realizing) because I was adding another towel to a load. I called Samsung and they set up a service call that week. The technician was great, replaced the lock, gave me some user tips and left. The new lock design is *much* better and has been solid. I love the internal heater and sanitize cycle. I use perm press, quick wash, normal, sanitize, heavy duty...heck I think I've used all the different cycles. We've a large family, dogs, someone always forgets that 'xx shirt needed to be washed' and we've even used the quick wash on that favorite pair of jeans before school. This hasn't been 'gently' used. It's used daily, often 1-2 cycles daily. It still runs as great as day one and cleans as great as it did from day one. We have filthy work clothes, dedicates, jeans and towels and bedding, and they all come out very clean and not one item of clothing has been ruined. My only regret was not getting one sooner! ETA -- I forgot to mention we did not buy the matching dryer. My Kenmore dryer is still working and we're not in a position to buy another dryer just for aesthetics (I did want to though!)
