Have you ever lost all your Favorites/Bookmarks?

I upgraded to Windows 7 this weekend. My son thought he saved all my Bookmarks, but he must have gotten the Favorites list from Explorer, which I haven't used in several years. All my current Bookmarks were on Firefox.

Well, I'm just about Bookmark-less. No big deal . . . I'm not even whining, I swear. One way or another I'll find the sites that I need to find. It's even somewhat amusing to see what I bookmarked ages ago. Many of them no longer exist. The evolution of the Internet . . .

Moni told me how to save them a while back. I did save them then, but have a lot of new ones now.. so I need to redo. Especially now that it looks like I might have to get a new computer.

First of all I want to Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your advice & compassion. I have been very stressed over all of this and I could feel the genuine concern you have for our situation. Just to fill in a few blanks, we are both now 56 yo. DH has his BA & MBA & a certified Project Manager. He worked AND went to school at same time. I'm afraid I am lacking in the educational department. I have 2 AA degrees in nothing marketable, & got my RE License about a month(2006) before the market started crashing-but left because of my DM deteriorating health at the time. But, actually I was the main caregiver for both of my parents from 2001 until 2007 in our home until they both passed. Dad had cancer & Mom had Alzheimer/dementia. About 2 months after my DM died (Dec '07) I started babysitting(Feb'08) for my 2 granddaughters until just this past November '09, when I started working part-time again. Can't believe I did the formula, diapers, potty-training all over again, but my girls were a good distraction from my grief. My DS & DDIL paid when the could, what they could,--most of the time, not at all, but I just wanted to help them out & make sure the girls were safe with me. It was never about the income, it was all about what was best for my GDD's. Last summer I looked into a local university here & wanted to start school to get a Gerontoloy Certificate ( would take 18 months) & eventually work in Hospice & for seniors. (Heck, I am a senior now too according to Bob Evans--lol) I guess I am just destined to be a caregiver all my life. I started the application process & was told I would probably be eligible for Finacial Aid, but I think working Full Time has to be my priority now. I've been brainstorming to think of any additional means of bringing in some income--like maybe renting out the in-law quarters of our home. Selling off some jewelry--only about $200.00 worth, but every bit has to help. We're down to 1 car which we "juggle". Right now, everything just seems up in the air. We might know more by this week-end, when either my DH's project goes well or comes crashing down & him with it. I am preparing for the crash down, because in the past few weeks, anything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. Like servers going down for hours, connection problems etc. One manager just walked off the job, because he said he couldn't take the pressure anymore. So, Thank you, thank you, thank you, all for taking the time just to let me talk/write about this & for listening. I know there are those here with far worse problems (health etc) & my problems are miniscule compared to theirs, but I thank you again for your suggestions & support. God Bless ~~ katclaws

Something funny happened and I remembered this thread so I thought I'd post it here. I do stop by and read here every couple of days. I seldom post because I made my big "decorating push" before I got my new puppy a bit over 2 years ago. I'm not doing any decorating, I'm doing agility training....at least that was the plan and it had worked out perfectly until about 3 weeks ago. Three weeks ago my dishwasher died and it all snowballed from there. I can't complain, we've lived in this house for 17 1/2 years and the original dishwasher lasted until about 3 weeks ago. I did my research and ordered a new dishwasher....but I also started shopping for flooring because I'd always thought that when the dishwasher died it would be a good time to change the flooring. The dishwasher was installed as was the new flooring but, in the meantime we'd developed a leak in the kitchen ceiling. (Master bath is above kitchen.) We didn't know exactly what was leaking so, that meant that I had to hire someone to pull apart the ceiling, find and fix the problem and then put the ceiling together again. (Did I mention that my husband was out of town for work during all this? Yes, 3 weeks, he missed the whole thing!) Anyway, we got all that done but, I also got to talking with the contractor. I'd called a contractor I'd used before. I thought my leak was too small a job for him but, if that was the case I was hoping he could refer me to someone. I was lucky, he likes to maintain a relationship with his clients so, he said he was happy to fix the ceiling......and he did some other stuff for me too. This is what the kithcne looked like 3 weeks ago: This is what the kitchen looks like now: I'm tickled pink but still a bit flabergasted about the whole thing. I'm also pulling my hair out trying to play catch up with my training. Local agility trials start next weekend and I've let down on training while I was coping with the kitchen.

Nope. Never lost a camers. But I did lose a piece of gear one afternoon at Santa Barbra, CA. It was the end of business trip and I was allowed one day to look around and that I did - traveled 300 miles. I was on a high, steep bluff overlooking the ocean, watching the sea lions surf, when the front piece of my camera case dropped off. As I bent to pick it up, a sudden wind gust carried it away. I started after it and then realized that I was not going to catch it before tumbling over the edge. All I could do was to watch it go over the edge into the ocean never to be seen again. It was the the front half of a case for a Minolta SR1 - too bad. (Model SR1 was the first SLR [single lens reflex] marketed by Minolta.) I have tried, but have not been able to replace it.

THANKS for this thread and all the posts related to it, I read it early this am and it has been on my mind since. Fall of 2009 DH one day said come first of Oct I am going to loose some weight, I thought about it...told him next day I would go along with a diet....I needed to loose 20 pounds.....I lost the 20 ...then realized I needed another 20 off. Eight month later I had lost 42lbs and he had lost 55 lbs. i did the cooking...planned the menus....lot of veggies, fruits (fresh and no sugar canned) almost no bread...stopped baking all the sweets.....counted calories....weighed once a week....Sunday dinners were healthy but with beef steak, pork, or chicken. Once a week we treated ourself to a meal "out" from a reasonable healthy menu. We continued our exercise routine at The Y....we were never hungry..this all worked for us... When stopping I had my weight down to 144 lbs..DH down to 182...he looked great...I looked sick....for my height it was 10 lbs to much, face to thin and it showed up the wrinkles..lol...really aged me.....so I put 10 back on...155 and I was happy...gradually another ten went on.....and since Christmas another five...OUCH.....DH has only put on a total of 6 to 8 lbs...and you cannot tell it....he says he knows it.... So the story is ......I am back to the diet cooking and DH is going along with me. Hopefully by the middle of summer I will be back to goal of 155.....it is a matter of exercise, diet, food portions, a life style change and dedication.... I constantly read any and everything on diets.....I keep a food/calorie count and exercise daily journal.....anything that will remind me, "too much food is not good."

I don't always back up as often as I should but usually I have at least something that's not too old available. I don't use bookmarks/favorites anymore anyway. I use a homepage and put all the links on there. Keep a copy of it on a flash drive if I service in the field and now that I'm back to running multiple computers it goes on the other system.

If you're using Firefox and/or Thunderbird, you should use Mozback and back them up. It'll back up all your extensions/add-ons and all the settings of the program so if you lost it or wanted to duplicate it on another machine it'll have all the current extensions/add-ons without having to install them all again and then update them. Very handy program.

Opera users can use OperaFly

It's also a good idea to make a list of important items on your system so they get backed up, or in the case of a drive problem people will know what is important to you to look for when servicing it.

On AOL I periodically save them to my hard drive and can bring them up anytime.
I don't know how to do it on Explorer

Yes...been there, done that. I know I should do the backup thing, but I won't think about it until something happens to my computer. Sigh.....

Ladies and Gentlemen, this could be your friendly reminder to back up your bookmarks/favorites, as well as your address book!!!

Just back up what ever you think is important to you.

Anyone know how to save the new Yahoo address book? Even just how to print it out? (Since I have no idea how to 'back up')

Yes, I have lost my favorites a few times, what I do now is save them and send them to my hotmail email account and then never delete them from there. I go to each favorite website, copy the url and paste into a message to send to my email. At least it works for me.

If you use Yahoo or Google bookmarks, you do not need to save them on your computer. They are stored on the Yahoo and Google websites, and when you log back in your bookmarks or favorites will still be there after you get your new computer.

Me too! Have lost them a time or two. I hate when that happens. I backed up religously for a while, but I've slipped into my old careless ways again...

I have! And it kills me! I have since learned to back up and have not had an issue. But I am getting ready to upgrade to 7 as well. Sigh... I hate change sometimes.

I have. Now I use Google Bookmarks, so they're always available. I do have a few on each of the computers that aren't on gBookmarks, but not many.

I back up my entire computer once a week with a little device called clickfree. All I do is plug it in and it automatically backs up everything. The primary reason I got it is for my digital images. But it backs up everything so if my computer crashes or is stolen or I buy a new one (or just want to transfer certain files to someone elses computer) I can do it very easily. There are services on-line but I prefer being in possession of it myself. I got it a few years ago after my old computer crashed and I lost documents and images. Now I sleep better.
