While traveling in Europe, many years ago (70's), I sent 20 rolls of film back to the states to be developed. Of course this was before digital. They were lost, and even after extensive tracing, never found. Heartbreaking, to say the least, especially the loss of pictures taken in Austria. I don't expect to ever find them.

Neat, but I doubt if my camera was found. I left it in the ladies' room in the Tower of London 40 odd years ago. Luckily I had the film from most of my trip. We should put our name and address somewhere on our cameras. Great idea here. Losing pictures is sad.

Take a picture of a piece of paper with your name and phone number on it. Then "protect" that picture. When you download pictures, protected pictures stay in the camera.

If someone finds your camera and "wants" to return it, they can get in touch with you.

Of course, this means an honest person is needed.

Nope. Never lost a camers. But I did lose a piece of gear one afternoon at Santa Barbra, CA. It was the end of business trip and I was allowed one day to look around and that I did - traveled 300 miles. I was on a high, steep bluff overlooking the ocean, watching the sea lions surf, when the front piece of my camera case dropped off. As I bent to pick it up, a sudden wind gust carried it away. I started after it and then realized that I was not going to catch it before tumbling over the edge. All I could do was to watch it go over the edge into the ocean never to be seen again. It was the the front half of a case for a Minolta SR1 - too bad. (Model SR1 was the first SLR [single lens reflex] marketed by Minolta.) I have tried, but have not been able to replace it.

I lost around 400 photos on a trip to the US in 2005. They were photos of the part of our trip from San Francisco down to San Diego and Tijuana. When we got back to LA, I went to a Wal-Mart to have the photos put on CD. There were about 800 on the SD card (yes, I love to take lots of photos - figure I am never going to visit this way again, so why not!) but apparently only around 400 will fit on a CD. We were not told this and stupid us didn't check the whole CD to make sure that all the photos were on it. It wasn't until after we had been back home for a while that I realised I was missing so many photos - and I was so disappointed. Will know in future to check it before leaving the store.

what a great site...Thanks Vickers! i doubt I'll ever get my two stolen camera pictures back...but it was sure worth a look! I also just took a picture of my name and phone number...and protected it in my camera...What a great idea!

I remember when Flamey posted about putting your personal information on a protected pic in your camera way back in December. It was a good idea then and now.

I also remember Flamey posting that great idea back in Dec.!! I meant to do it then..but forgot!:(

I just heard on the radio yesterday about a guy who lost his cell phone in the water...I forget where, and a 25 lb. cod swallowed it. Someone caught the cod and when cleaning it, found the phone and returned it to it's owner. What's the odds on that? :))

Great idea. I lost a disposable camera at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles a number of years ago. I called the museum after I got home and they found a camera just like mine. I had to pay them to send it to me. After I got the pics developed, it wasn't my camera.
When I was in junior high, my camera got stolen out of my parents unlocked car while we were visiting their friends who lived at a beach. A few months later their friend called and said he had the pictures from the camera. Whoever stole it had taken the film out and tossed it in the sand. Someone found the film and had it developed and went door to door asking if anyone recognized anyone in the photos.
