Chandelier suggestions needed

We have a very dated fluorescent fixture in the center of our kitchen ceiling. It sort of looks like a window up there. I'll attach a photo with some of the glass out.
The tubes are in a recessed area 4' x 6' and 9" deep. As we remodel (shaker cabinets, soapstone) this light needs to go. I would like to somehow incorporate the recessed area into the design, sort of like a tray ceiling with a fixture. We have planned under counter lights and cans around the perimeter of the room but I need some help with what should go into that recessed area. The regular ceiling height is only 8' and there is no island or anything under this area so I don't want anything that will hang too low. Another suggestion has been to frame the opening and use recessed lighting under the frame which would reflect off the ceiling.
Any suggestions will be sincerely appreciated.
