love the pedestals

I have the boxch 500 set without pedestals and they work just fine for me at 5'6" tall...

I have a set of LG and both are on pedestals. I love them too. The pedestals have drawers in them and they can hold a lot of stuff. I use the top of the Washer & Dryer a lot to put the clean clothes in stacks when sorting.

My old Naytag FL set on the floor. Used it for about nine years. When I purchased the new Samsungs I purchased the pedestals and flipped the side that the machines occupied. I love the height of the pedestals and wished I had thought of switching the setup on the old set. However, the drawers on the pedestals could extend out farther.

The new units look noticeably larger. They do stick out more, but it's just the general size and height. Still I like the idea of the units being elevated and would do so again.

One thing I was running into was the cabinets that hung above the washer/dryer unit. Certain manufacturers units wouldn't fit under the cabinet if I purchased a pedestal. So be aware that if you go for a counter top that the machines are not a standard size. They can vary by inches, so pick out your machines before you install a top.

Naytag, Maytag, obviously getting my finger on the wrong key. LOL.

Anyway you can see in the picture the size of the units. Also why flipping, because of the window, makes it easier to use. I can leave the door on the washer open and it's not in the way. There is actually a laundry chute that feeds into the cabinet over the dryer. The taller cabinets (you can only see part of them) have four baskets for sorting clothes.

I use my pedestals to store the dirty laundry. We have dividers for white, colored , dark and towels.

Staceyinga - we will be doing the exact same thing once DH gets around to finishing things, lol. I have had front loaders sans pedestals for many, many, years and have never had any problems with the set-up. The counter space is way more important and useful to me than a raised W/D.

I'm tall and have neck problems so the units without pedestals were too low. I fold the laundry as I remove it and use the top to stack the folded laundry without a problem. I think it really depends on your height and comfort. I took a laundry basket of towels into a store with a display to check them out. We were considering stacking to gain counter space to the side and needed to find out if the washer would be too low. It was OK, but I think the side by side on pedestals has worked out better for us.

I chose not to put my washer and dryer on pedestals, and I've been perfectly happy with them. I do have Bosch machines, so the controls are angled so that they are easy to see while I am standing. If I had to bend over to use the controls of the machine I might feel differently. I am 5'8".

I don't see the controls as an issue -- it's the bending and reaching into that deep hole to pull everything out that is an issue for me.

Any counter that that matches the top height of a front loader even without pedestals will be at bar height, which is pretty high to have as a work surface and certainly pretty high for a usable sink in the counter. THe bigger issue would be the accessability of the connections. You need to be able to occasionally flip up the countertop and pull the washer and dryers out to be able to check the washer connections and clean the dryer vent hose and vent. Also if the washer stand pipe is installed correctly, it will rise above any counter that you might want to put there, so will need a notch. Granite is too also heavy to install on top of front loaders unless you create some type of wall supports and brackets to take the load. It's HEAVY! It will be an obstacle to proper maintainence of your laundry equipment. A better choice would be a laminate countertop mounted with hinges to flip up out of the way when you need it to. But, you really don't need a countertop at all if all you want is a work surface on top of the machines. They serve just fine as is for that function without any countertop and then you can add a freestanding laundry sink next to them.

I don't have the pedestals and in a way I wish that I had bought them because getting the socks that are all the way in the back of the washer is a pain in the back at times. I had cabinets above the washer and dryer and didn't know if I would have enough room.

No pedestals. Since my FL washer isn't any lower than the FL dryer I'd been using for 25 years without a pedestal, I figured I didn't need pedestals. Plus I figure as long as I'm able to bend over it's good for me to do so - and I like having the top at counter height since I have no other counter space in my laundry room.

I have the Duets on pedestals. I pull out the drawer which has a "shelf" on it and put my laundry basket on that and fold right in to the basket.
