Banquette Bench is In!! Which Fabric do you like?
Comments (118)Wow, you have found the most beautiful fabrics in existence in those colors. This is what I would do: 1) Pick one of the fabrics that somehow brings in the color of your beautiful floor (along with the blues and yellows) 2) Put that fabric on the back of the banquette. 3) Put a solid colored vinyl / leather on the banquette bottom (this is what I did on my banquette - fabric on back, solid leather look vinyl on the bottom.) That way, people can slide around on it easier, it won't grab your dress / skirt bottom like fabric will when you slide, and clean ups are a breeze. Stuff tends to drop horizontally... This is mine from > 10 years ago. I'm very glad I put vinyl on the bottom because any fabric would have long since worn out. The Raymond Waites fabric along the back has held up fine. You might need to turn up the brightness on your monitor for this one. But I like the darker picture because it includes the stagecoach blinds at the top behind the light. I was trying for a Texas country look. The only disaster has been to the table finish. Someone left a frozen turkey in a grocery bag on top of the table for maybe an hour. Now there are a spiderweb of hairline cracks inside the finish radiating out from where Mr. Tom the Turkey rested.. It's still the favorite hang out place in the house....See MoreNeed help with material choices for banquette
Comments (9)Thank you for the posts and the photos! I spent a lot of time learning about kitchen design, etc. and now I need to learn or least pick up some decorating insight. Pipdog- Your banquette is beautiful. I love your combination of soft neutrals. Its looks like a wonderful place to curl up and have coffee. On the recommendation of another GW'er I had checked out cushionsource.com and had noticed they carry sunbrella fabrics. Yours looks lovely. We do not have children yet (emphasis on the yet) but I want the space to be kid and pet friendly (we have two black-n-white cats) with rear claws. Blfenon- I will have to check out that issue, thank you. I am sure the banquette will become the cats favorite spot as well. pammyfay---LOL. I will have to make sure I consider the booty-scootability factor. Good thing you mentioned it-- because I had not even thought about it. I really like pipdog's neutral off-white/sandy color cushion. That way I could dress it up with pillows and I am not committing to a color. I have troubles committing to color. The wall color for example, I am still not completely sold on it. I like it, but I do not know to integrate it into the space. My kitchen/dining area is a room I relax in--because cooking is relaxing and my down time from working. So I want it to feel like a comfortable hangout type space. Any thoughts? I will try to post more photos-- we just started taking back the space last night (i.e. cleaning and removing boxes of screws and wood glue from the interiors of the cabinets). Oh and here is one fabric that caught my eye--- maybe it would be best for pillows to tie in that wall color a bit?...See MoreOpinions on banquette fabric part 2
Comments (14)Martha, I feel your pain. i am looking for a durable fabric for my kitchen seating. Have you looked at Kravet Soleil Indoor/Outdoor Fabrics? Or Joe Ruggerio Sunbrella fabrics. I believe Calicio Corners may have some of the Joe Ruggiero collection. I came across a couple in the blue & green that you might like. This one is Kravet Vanadis Gulf, another Ikat...See MoreHelp picking out banquette fabric
Comments (53)Romy - thank you so much for taking the time to post pics. I have seen many of those since I have been looking for photos of banquettes. TBH, I haven't seen many examples of bold, vibrant colors/prints and that may be a function of people shying away from that look. DH and I still like the idea of brighter/polychromatic print, but we just really need to think this out with swatches in the room. So much for getting the banquette done for Christmas! I'm at work now, but I can get a photo later today of the banquette area. We are still waiting for a lot of trim work to be finished, but you'll get the idea. I had my cabinet maker make the utensil drawer based on a few photos I had seen on Houzz. ::wub:: I'm not sure if it can be retrofitted for the canisters since you need enough clearance for the tops of the utensils. cawaps - thank you for taking the time to mock up a mood board. DH are doing all the design ourselves w/o KD or any designer (we are doing almost a whole house remodel) and while I like to think everything has been well thought out, that obviously hasn't happened consistently! bpathome - the other chairs will be PB Napolean chairs in chestnut stain, which is wood and has an open design in the back. We may put cushions on later - not sure now. kitchendetective - the kitchen has a 5' opening to the family room, which we are still renovating. It's painted BM Cameo White, a creamy white that reads almost beigey-peach in some lights with BM Decorator's White trim. The family room furniture is very nuetral with a beigey sofa and love seat, sage green velvet chairs and cream and brown rug. We have red and white oak mixed floor in a Provincial stain. Interpretation: very bland and neutral. This post was edited by marthastoo on Mon, Nov 4, 13 at 12:18...See MoreLaurie
