Have not had any new Kitchen Tips for a while.

This was emailed to me.

Thought I would pass it on, in case someone would like to use it.

USE OF BOTTLE NECKS TO SEAL PLASTIC BAGS.

( when there is no funnel handy )

You can use this idea, instead of twist ties or rubber bands.

It is waterproof and air tight.

Cut off the top of a Plastic bottle , a little below the neck ( approx. 1 1/2" )

Remove the cap and feed the plastic bag thru the neck from the bottom.

Pull the bag all the way thru, to the food and wrap it down over the neck.

Screw the cap on and cut off the excess plastic bag.

Here is one I knew for years but forgot to put it in the last episode of Kitchen Tips.

TO POUR LIQUID INTO A SMALL BOTTLE OR SPACE

Place something thin across the bottle you are pouring from.

Extending it out a few inches. I used a thick Skewer.

Pour slowly, with the tip of the Skewer in the opening, that you are pouring into.

The liquid will follow the Skewer down into the small bottle.

I have used this for pouring Motor Oil, etc.

I've used water bottle tops as bag closures. They work the best on thin bags such as Bulk Barn, etc.

Sprinkle a bit of flour on your bacon when it's frying, and it won't spatter.

Plumbers have pressure gauges and should be able to hook them up between the faucet and the shut off valve. I would measure the pressure when the faucet is off. That establishes maximum pressure at the time of test. Then open the faucet and see if the pressure drops. If the pressure stays steady or does not drop much that suggests the faucet has a blockage of some type. Normally the blockage occurs in the screen at the tip of the faucet. It should unscrew and a you can see dirt in the screen when you take it off. I used to build new homes on well systems instead of public water. We always got some dirt in the system when we first started using the water. A faucet will just barely drip and the screen in the air e ator was always the cause. When ever the washing machine starts filling slowly you know to take off the hoses and clean the screens and everything returns to normal. You can also open the valve to the kitchen faucet after attaching a pressure guage to it and fill a bucket with water and see if the pressure reading is similar to when the faucet is on to establish a pattern of what to expect. I would not take at face value you need to replace the water main. Also those pipes are burried low enough to keep from freezing if you live in a cold climate. In florida it is usually 12-18 inches. I would be very surprised if you car can damage that pipe where ever you live. People on farms drive over there pipes with tractors everywhere.

Do you currently have and use a dishwasher? I just want to make sure that you know what you're getting into. Giving up a dishwasher for one or two people is not something I would want to do but I could justify it. You are talking about having an expanding family and in those circumstances giving up a dishwasher does not make sense to me. Do you use your beautiful china daily? If not, where are the daily dishes going? If you are, can you promise you will not be upset with your children when they break it? I like mama goose's design the best because it puts the pantry and fridge close to each other and it puts the sink and stove in line as they should be. Do you know which closet will hold the broom, vacuum cleaner, and other long handled implements, etc. I really prefer that there is a front entryway with a separate closet for guest coats and such. In my great-grandmother's house we always came in via the back porch and I always thought it was strange. I do think that the house should have at least two entrances and exits. I would not be surprised to find that it's required by code. How far out in the country is this? Is this one of these locations where you have to do a monthly run to some store an hour away? If so there is not enough storage space- unless that's what the basement is all about. For two people or possibly a family of three (four if the children are a boy and a girl) this design is fine but if you are really intending to have more children I think that you are not allowing the space for all the paraphernalia that each additional person ends up needing in terms of extra bed, dresser, desk, closet space, plates, pots, pans, glasses etc. Have you measured how many linear feet of closet space you are currently using between you and your husband and determined that your new build will have at least that amount?

If you are selling to an investor (for a rental), they won't mind a laminate countertop. If your target customer is a new home buyer, they would probably like something nicer. Check out getting granite countertops made from pre-fab slabs. You don't have that much countertop, so the slabs shouldn't be too much and the fabrication should not cost too much either. Go with something light as the corner with the sink is a dark hole. Stainless appliances are nice and available at many price points. It's better if they all match.

Hi! It looks very nice. I am no good at telling what variety it is but these flowers look large. And yay, you got it to bloom all on your own! It looks to me like your plant is indoors? I'm afraid I don't know about grafting plumerias, never tried it myself, but cutting plants so they are shorter and having scions to graft sounds like a plan. Maybe others can chime in on the grafting. One of my tips died back this year and now it is leafing out from 8 spots. I need to thin it out to at most 4, if it is going to look decent but I am too chicken to cut the little buds with leaves out. Good luck grafting! I am going to check out Lowes for JJ plumies!

Another way to minimize splattering when deep frying is to sprinkle some salt into the hot oil.

This one was new to me and sounded pretty simple. When cooking pasta, toss a couple of peeled garlic cloves in the pot with the water. When you drain the pasta, fish the cloves out, crush them into a paste and mix with a little bit of butter a garlic spread.

I always enjoy Lou's tips. It's about time you gave us some more!

You can rig a leaf blower with a net bag and blow insects off row crops into the bag for easy sorting!

fori - you can also use a cordless vacuum to suck up those critters, or a really long extension cord on a shop vac.

Hey guys, stay on topic please. :-)

I posted this one in another gardening forum sometime ago. Those of you who grow herbs and veggies know those nasty white flies and aphids. Yet you can't spray chemicals on food stuff. The use of a vacuum or a blower's vacuum side to suck up those critters is one of the recommended ways to keep them under control. The problem is, as you have found out, you also suck in all your veggies.

Here is a simple attachment to solve the problem.

But if you need to keep the insects, a net is better. You have to sort them before they get mashed.

My Tip.....You know those "Garlic Nets" you get, when you buy a three pack of Garlic, well I save them, and use them to squeeze fresh lemons. They work Fantastic, and last forever. If I have company, and I'm serving Salmon, I tie a nice yellow satin bow around them, with half a lemon, and I do several, and place them in a bowl. It looks nice. Just wash the nets with soap & water after each use.
