Wait, it is the 25HNB648, I picked up the 636 from a different quote that i think is a typo because that one spells out 4-ton before the model #. I WAS giong Amana but for kicks and giggles I emailed the contractor who I had pretty much ruled out due to highest price. He has reduced his price $2000 from his original quote and is including the Infinity (per above quote). The price is about $1000 more than an Amana heat pump system. I haven't gone back to the contractor who gave me the Amana quote yet to see if he will do a seasonal discount on his price, but for $1000 difference, as it stands, I'm leaning towards the Infinity....is that a good decision? (both well know good installers) The Amana dealer also quoted me Carrier, 59TN6 and 25HNB648, but for $3000 out of pocket. The unknown is which exact furnace the most recent quote includes..he refers to it as Infinity so wouldn't that be the 59TN? oooh, I just looked at it again....I had missed the Infinity control extra $$$. Wow, I wonder if he was including that in his price...I hope he wasn't. He mentioned install in about 3 weeks....I hope he wasn't going to push me back until Sept and pocket the rebate. I will have to call for sure. With that rebate I would probably do it since the 2000 out of pocket would go down to 1000! That sounds reasonable to me, Infinty system, hot water, air seal and insulation for 11,000??? People pay 8000 for good (not better or best!) system around here and I KNOW infinity is better system. Thanks Mike for pointing out that rebate...his email does say must include infinity furnace and control....so it must be that!

Thanks Klem - I'll do some more homewk, but I am also thinking of getting a service all done. There was some condensation leaking from the plenum box where the coil resides. I think the primary line was clogged, but since I poured some 50-50 bleach/H20 down into the primary line, it cleared out the line. The primary line empties into the P-trap of the upstairs bathroom sink. The sink drain was clogged w what looked like puke and other pieces of solid debris, I plunged it clean to make the drain clear qkly, but then the funk went straight down to the master bathroom downstairs which is right under the sink that was clogged. The whole sink [and worse this was my wife's side] was almost full to the top. I plunged multiple times and only brought up more funk, so I removed w plastic cup a lot of the water and funk. Plunged again and more stuff came up - nothing draining. Went and bought a Rigid Augur and tried clearing sink, but also went to shower drain and removed a whole cat worth of hair...augured this drain, then augured wife's sink. Still no draining in wife's sink. Poured a whole bottle into each shower drain and sink drain..left for 30 min's and poured 3-5gal of hot water in each drain..all went down well. My sink across from hers was never a prob, nor the spa. Put all drains back together, went upstairs in attic and poured bleach/H2O into primary line again and had daughter listen to where it empties into P-trap of upstairs bathroom sink...It flowed well, AND no more issues w any drains of master [sink or shower] not working well. The water pan below the unit in question had a lot of water in it, but not enough to drain out of the secondary drain line. I will go upstairs each day to make sure pan is evaporating....the never ending joys of home ownership...AC down here is important, even in winter. :) Thanks, tstex

Do you like the Amana they are proposing, they also have a 14 Seer Rheem as the cheapest model --- The Rheem is a basic single stage unit. I am trying to find out the model number on the Amana but I think it is ASZC16. I had to ask what they were selling me because they have some agreement to use the HVAC company name in model description: XXX TruComfort Signature Series Heat Pump (dual speed) XXX TruComfort Pro Series Air Handler Variable Speed Blower. XXX is HVAC company name The rep said Amana was "allowing" them to use their name. Ah, OK a couple of things... There is nothing wrong with Amana. I've installed it many times. Rheem units I've repaired many times nothing really wrong with those either. Most of this comes down to how well you take care of it. Who installed it, how they installed it and so on. I have installed over 8 different brands of HVAC equipment. Not to brag but to tell you brands don't make much difference... when you know what you are doing. Most people don't realize what I say here, most of what manufacturer's do is a mirror room of competing brands all of them made by 7-8 manufacturing companies. So the most important in my eyes is: buying the model that has the options you want, lowers utility bills, keeps you comfortable etc. The more options you buy the more it will cost. The Amana ASZC16 is a 2 speed heat pump. The lowest 2 speed you can buy. Not a bad unit, but not as efficient as say the AVZC20 which is the Amana 20 SEER inverter heat pump. I put in an inverter heat pump at my home last year, I didn't choose the Amana. I went with the Bosch 1.0 18 SEER inverter heat pump. This can and will throw some for a loop why I often sell Amana but went with the Bosch. I have sold the Bosch to others as well. It's knowing and understanding how these things operate. So to keep this short all I am going to say is it was a choice based on what both do, how they do it AND the cost involved to pull it off. Their are risks in using the Bosch that aren't there with the Amana brand. So it's a choice is what it is. Now in terms of a Company True Comfort xxx air conditioning made by so and so... They can do this because they move a LOT of equipment. Probably in the 100's of thousands of dollars a year. Carrier upset this gravy train by getting too greedy most likely and this company shopped around while waving a cash stack, ready to buy a lot of equipment. It's really no different when Kenmore sold their branded AC back in the day made by none other than Carrier ironically. The reason companies do this is only they can sell you a 'True Comfort' so and so. You know if brand is so important to you and nothing else is. That's why you need to avoid the 'my brand is better than your brand' they all break. Going with a bigger company has it's plusses but also it's negatives. The negatives revolve around the feel like another number to the company. Most of my customers are on a first name basis with me. I am the only one they ever see. So many ways to do something as you can see here.

What is the humidity level in the basement? If the humidity level is high then this might be condensation collecting on the inside of the coil case. In the second photo, there are dark spots on the bottom of the case. Is this rust? I would not expect to see any rust on a new coil.
