Backsplash sticker shock
Comments (22)My tile is Silver Crackle. There are some taupey tiles in the mix which really threw me when I initially received my order. In the end, it all turned out perfect. If only I would have followed Oldbat2be's suggestion to do a grouted tile board. I could have saved myself 5-6 weeks of fretting. There is a new silvery color, Cirrus, that I've seen a few pictures of. I'd love to see it in person. I just posted a 2014 Encore Sales Guide on Michelle's backsplash post- over 100 pages. Not a lot of pictures but it describes all the colors & has every piece of tile they make. Thanks Oldbat. Edit: Silver Crackle is one of the colors you can get in Bravo line. My KD wasn't familiar with Encore & neither of us realized the Bravo line even existed so I ordered the regular tile (more $$). The field tile sizes are a little different from the regular line. I don't know if there would be any change in the range of colors. You could email Encore & ask them. I emailed their customer service department about sealing the tile & got a very friendly response. You might also want to ask them what they recommend for the size of the grout lines and whether they recommend sanded or unsanded grout. I trusted the tile installer to know that (mistake). Comments (13)I think that before contemplating tearouts of perfectly new expensive tile you just wait until you get the additional pieces. Encore is a reputable tile company and I am sure they have good quality control over their production and colors. There is a good chance the new tile will match the old tile perfectly. I would wait to do the grout. imo, that's where you have the most chance of the colors not matching. If you are so inclined, now might be a good time to seal the tiles. Then when the grout is applied it should have no affect on the craquelure of tiles. You can seal the grout later (after it cures) unless you are doing epoxy and then you don't have to seal it at all....See MoreEncore silver crackle tile users (Romy, ssg7741) - questions
Comments (11)Cabinets are semi-custom. Bases are built by a local shop and all the doors, drawer fronts, molding, trim, etc are all by Conestoga. It was a special order style door/drawer though since I wanted a modified shaker door. Cpartist - you are more than welcome to come check out the kitchen when you are back! I need to make sure there is caulk on the bottom row where it meets counter and not caulk right? And a sneak!...See Morefantasy brown granite w/ Sunset cherry cabs : backsplash assistance
Comments (13)Watch out for trying to mix cool grays with warm oak. Small amounts work OK. A gray backsplash would have gone with my countertops - but would have been drab with my warm wood. Warm wood tones and cool grays do not bring out the best in each other which is why the gray is usually paired with white. Gray is a bit overused right now which means it risks being labeled "dated" in the next 10 years though it will always be an important neutral - like cream and beige. Go ahead and try it in wall color that can be easily changed but be careful of using too much in more permanent surfaces. The grays in your countertop read warm which is why it is working with your cabinets. Consider your wall color last as it is the least permanent surface and easy to change....See Moreromy718
