Not an expert, but my observation --

I just got LG front loaders and had then put on pedesatls. Mine are on a concrete slab on the first floor, but they barely vibrate even on a high spin. We put the open owner's manual on top of the washer while spinning and you could see the side with just a few pages wiggling a tiny bit. I'm not sure you can have something at 1320 ROM and not get ANY movement, but that slight bit wouldn't make me concerened about them on a sound floor. BTW, the machines are attached to the pedestals with brackets -- with screwa and glue. They don't wobble on the pedestals.

For the last 2 years, I've had the Kenmore HE4T washer and HE4 gas dryer on pedestals in my 3rd (yes, 3rd) floor laundry room. No problems at all.

We've got our Duets on the second floor without pedestals, because I wanted to be able to fold clothes on top. Hubby, who does his own laundry, does not like to bend down, so he keeps a folding chair in there and he sits in it when doing laundry - moving clothes from washer to dryer, taking clothes out of dryer. So we're both happy.

Miele has the best pedestals on the market. They have a system that links the washer to the pedestal using large rods internally. Compared to LG that uses sticky pads to link or the Whirlpool/Kenmore that uses a 3/8 long metal screw to link to the pedestal. They also use a large cast iron counter balance to help eliminate any vibration, other companies use small chunks of concrete which can crumble. Miele is the best and you person doing the laundry will love you for it.

i have my duets on the 15" pedestals and i don't think i would want them any other way! they are tall enough to make putting laundry in and out comfortable, and i still put folded laundry on top.(it's only a pain when i leave folded laundry on top and i can't open the cabinets which are over them...) i can store lots of stuff in the drawers and there is no unusual vibration. my machines are on my main floor with the full basement underneath.... regularly supported floors with ceramic tile as the flooring. they are not a noise issue or vibration problem. i highly reccommend the pedestals... i'm 5'8... maybe they would be a problem for those who are very short...??? i don't have back issues, but i don't like bending over to do the laundry--- i fold right out of the dryer tho.

It might have helped to tell you that my machines were attached to the pedestals as they got off the truck, They were wheeled in, over and down a number of bumps, through the doorways and into the laundry room, tilted down and maneuvered into place. After the guys left, DH and I had to pull the washer out to adjust the levelling in the back. They are firmly joined and there is no movement between tham.

As for rods -- that system would be only as secure as the holes the rods have to go through are snug and remain secure. It at least has the potential to be less stable.

unless they have recently changed LG uses 2 sticky pads on the sides of the machines to link the 2 pieces. It may be metal on the outside but a sticky pad on the inside. I've installed countless numbers of these machines. have you?
I still don't understand all the negative press you keep giving me. It's an open forum for input and that's all I'm doing. If you want credentials I'll be more than happy to give them to you.

Since this is a new build, ask your builder to reinforce the floor under the laundry room. I did that with our new build and I have my Mieles on pedestals and unless I am in the laundry room or right outside of it during the spin I can't hear it at all anywhere in the house and have none of the vibration issues I see posted on the forum.

I have the Miele washer 4840 and dryer 9820 on the ground floor-cement floor. Jason is correct-after opening and closing a bunch of these drawers, Miele is the best. They are attached to the machines with long rods. All of the different brands are different-none the same that I found. there is no vibration at all with the dryer and just a little with the washer which is normal and has nothing to do with the drawer. I love the drawers and wouldn't do it any other way. I do have a laundry room counter to fold but often still use the tops of the machines and I am 5'2". Love the machines. Good

I have 2x10 construction with 12 in centers. How would you reinforce that construction? What would you do underneath and what would you do on the top? of the floor? Would you remove the vinyl floor and add how much plywood on top of the existing floor?
