I went to my local Target today - they still have Vaska, 64 load bottles of the unscented variety for $13.99 with a $2 off coupon. I now have two of these in my stash ;-) I like the unscented variety, it has just enough of the lavender/herby scent for me. BTW, if you use FS, Vaska unscented combines very nicely with Snuggle White Lavender and Sandalwood FS. I use only a little and the clothes come out so nice - clean, soft and with a light scent.

I was wondering if you (czechchick2) tried the Vaska. I remember a post where you said you might. Glad you like it. It should be very gentle for those with sensitive skin. marie Louise, you may want to try Vaska for your sheets. Vaska will also be much gentler to fabrics than Persil. As for greasy stains - if I can see it before it's washed I squirt a very little bit of Method Smartclean unscented on the spot and rub in. This appears to remove most stains for me (even the greasy ones). I do use the new Method too - just not for everything. All my sheets, towels, delicates and darks get Vaska (for now).

For kitchen & cleaning towels I don't decrease the detergent, but they usually aren't big suds-producers. For bath towels (which can generate a lot of suds) I go with the 1/2 dose rule even with Persil Megaperls because, as someone stated, they usually don't get that dirty and I'm washing them on hot anyway which helps the cleaning no matter what. You mentioned Vaska -- I had commented in another thread a while back about that detergent. I found it to be *extremely* sudsy, almost as if it wasn't an HE detergent or they'd left out some critical anti-foaming element of it. And this was made hugely worse if you had a washer with an internal heater (like the Nexxt 500 you and I both have!) which just turned the suds into a hot foam that was very difficult to rinse out. This was especially bad with towels since they suds up a lot anyway. Switching to Persil and dropping the dosage helped get rid of my suds issues. In general I've found the Nexxt 500 can really bring out the suds during a rinse cycle, possibly due to the big paddles and significant wash action which just whips 'em up again, so I always use Rinse Plus and Bleach options. The Bleach option just adds another rinse if you leave the dispenser empty, as near as I can tell. Good luck!

@covingtoncat, I live in Canada where Vaska is not available at retail. My friend and I order it from Drugstore.com along with some BioKleen items we also cannot find here at the store. I loved the lavender herbatergent so much that I purchased the fabric softener, oxygen bleach and spot remover. Of all the items, the lavender herbatergent and fabric softener are my favourite. For oxygen bleach I prefer a pure form of sodium percarbonate so I buy Ecover or BioVert (a Canadian company). I find the oxygen bleach keeps my whites looking very white. Occasionally, if something is looking dingy, I soak it for an hour our so before hand in oxygen bleach and then wash. Always comes out nice. The spot remover works well for some stains but not all in my opinion. I also have the Method pump detergent and use a little of that for pretreating. It works VERY well. I have the unscented and squirt a small amount on the spot and rub it in. Throw in and wash. It has worked almost every time on everything from grease spots to food/grass/blood stains. I also have the BioKleen BacOut for stains like blood and grass and it works amazing as well. I use Vaska for sheets/towels and delicates. I have also washed my kidâÂÂs/husbandâÂÂs clothes with it when they were not particularly stained. Most of my towels and sheets are good quality cotton like Supima and Egyptian so they should be washed in a milder detergent - one that doesnâÂÂt contain enzymes or optical brighteners. I searched a very long time for a natural lavender detergent that I liked and this fits the bill for me very well. It has such a lovely âÂÂrealâ lavender smell - herbally like the South of France - not fake. Glad others are still enjoying it too :)
