Spring Fling Wish List and Info
Comments (114)"Littledog - dang it! Doesn't his job know that his wife has a garden life? j/k....my DH was out of a job for 15 months. Gotta give your man credit. In this economy, no one can "fluff off" a paying job. We will miss you! But there's always the fall and next spring! " Well, DH's crew started this last job in January, and didn't get home until April. I managed to go see him a few times, but it's just -not- the same. (It's hard to work on "stuff" in a motel room in Waco) We were hoping he'd be off at least a month, but obviously, that didn't happen. The kicker is he was told this would be a short job (a week and a half, MOL) and after her got there, found out it's only going to be 3 days. But you're right, this isn't a good time to fluff off a paying job, so away he went. Next time, I'm going to be there....See MoreNow, you're done-what do you wish you had known while planning?
Comments (68)My opinion on pot fillers. If the pot is too heavy to carry to the stove when the water is cold, I sure don't want to carry it to the sink when the water is boiling. For the effort/cost I don't need one. YMMV, though. I wish I had run my layout by gardenweb members for feedback. I wish I would have thought about a pull out cutting board. I haven't had one for about 30 years and had adapted. Would really like to have one again. The matt white Formica shows every speck of everything! Good, because I can wipe it off right away. Bad because if I haven't wiped it off right away everyone can see it. I live on a gravel road. I rarely use my a/c. Windows are open all the time. The FX stuff I originally planned might have been a better choice. Maybe next time. I do like the look of the white, though. I really hate my upper diagonals but I also hate the blind corner cabs. The more complicated pull down/out doesn't appeal to me. Problem still not solved. I don't like what I have but I don't like the other choices. I thought and thought about this and only came up with the three "I wishes", so all in all, my kitchen turned out pretty good. I am more than delighted to have the peninsula gone and every time I think about my new kitchen I suspect my face has the orgasm expression....See MoreThings you wish you had updated sooner (before a gut remodel)
Comments (19)There were actually several things that we wound up doing before our full remodel...and I'm so glad we did. We moved into a house that had a 1970's kitchen (complete with an avocado stove and non-vented hood). We planned on a kitchen remodel within 2 years of getting into the house. It wound up that it's been a little over 3. We picked up a Craigslist range and got rid of the old one. I don't love the Craigslist range, but it was light-years better than the original. This range is now in our basement hooked up to help us get through our remodel. And it will remain afterward for when I can since I'm getting an induction cooktop for upstairs. We put in a dishwasher. This single thing was the most important thing that we could have done to make the house livable through a terrible kitchen. We are reusing the DW in the new kitchen. We did a bit of rewiring which was completely necessary - so of this will be able to be reused in the new kitchen. Some of it won't. But, the fact that we weren't blowing a circuit every time we used the fridge and the microwave means that it was worth it! I had a rolling cart from our previous house and that was a lifesaver in the current kitchen...the rolling cart is now in our living room serving as a place for the microwave, a few dishes and utensils, and so on to live as a "temporary kitchenette" while our remodel goes on. The cart will go away after we are finished with our renovation...it's a little bittersweet to see it go - it's been such a help through a terrible rental kitchen and another terrible kitchen in the house we bought. But, the few hundred dollars I spent for it has been completely worthwhile....See MoreLet's share- wish I had known ....
Comments (48)Like others have said, professional photos. Not the agent with his or her iPhone. Our photographer came out on a sunny day. I told her "just tell me what you want done, I can take direction." I worked for her for over an hour and I didn't question anything. We listed on a Thursday afternoon. The appts started coming in immediately. Open house on Saturday was mobbed. House was sold by Sunday night. Good weather that first weekend. The house looked like the photos. That was luck. Price it properly. I was very personally invested because I had done all the work. I was a bit put off when the agent did Comps with other split levels as opposed to two stories. Right when we were doing the contract the agent agreed to put down my preferred listing price. But my spouse talked me out of it that night. We ended up listing for about 5% less than my ideal. But we had so much action we got offers a couple percent over asking. So it worked out. The agent came with a stager a year before we listed. She gave us a list of things to do, painting etc, and we did them during the year. Good luck....See Morezelmar
