Putting Laundy on second floor, trying not to screw up.

So my wife and I decided to get the laundry out of our cruddy basement, and finish off a room in our 1925 bungalow that is currently unfinished. I'm hoping to do everything myself, as most of it appears to be straight forward. I do have a couple of questions though. We have purchased a scratch and dent front load washer and dryer (GE), and I want to take steps to ensure the floor is properly reinforced to minimize vibration. I was just going to put down some cement board and tile, and possibly put in some blocking between the joists to stiffen them up a bit. Does this sound reasonable? Also, how important is it to put a drain pan under the washer? If I need one, do they sell a drop in product?

Any help would be great. I thought I would see if anyone had done something similar, and if there were any "OH MY GOD MAKE SURE YOU..." type of things.

Regards,

Kyle
