I need to make a meatloaf that looks like a cake for a party I'm having in July. I figured I'd practice now to get it perfected before the event. My idea is to make two meatloaf sections in round cake pans, then use mashed potatoes for the "icing" between layers and around the sides and on top. The problem is that I'm going to have to do this all in advance, like that morning. Then reheat it somehow I guess, so that it will be at least warm when it goes on the buffet table.

Can this be done? If I make it, spread the mashed potatoes on it, and refrigerate it for a few hours, can I then stick it back in the oven to reheat it and will it be edible? Or are the potatoes going to droop or brown or generally make the whole idea fail?

Help!
