Help in finding a paint color for family room/foyer

Hi All,

I am getting some drapes custom made for my family room and want to paint the room along with the foyer and hallway. I am attaching the fabric I am going to use for the valance in the family room. I would like to have some paint color that would go with it.

My breakfast and kitchen(which is next to the family room) is "Amalfi Red" from Ralph Lauren (Number# IB60).

I do not want the family room color to be dark as it is against the kitchen/bkfst which has a dark color. Right now I am thinking about SW Blond or Whole Wheat. Has anyone used them. If yes do they look dark or grayish?

Any other color recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

I have recommended Whole Wheat to a client and it does not look grayish, it has a camel color to it (picture slacks or a coat in a camel color), just a little darker.

Thanks a lot kathypass for your response. Did you get a chance to look at the link of my valance fabric? If yes then between Blonde and Whole Wheat which do you think will look better.

We have the same problem - trying to find a creamy beige with a little gold. Don't know about lighting in your space, but we have little natural light and rely on recessed lights. We think we're going with BM Oatmeal in the living room and above the chair rail in the dining room, and then BM Monroe Bisque below the chair rail in the dining room. We like BM White Opulence as a trim color - in our house, it looks like a crisp white, not too blue and not too pink. And, maybe surprisingly, BM Oatmeal doesn't look lifeless on our walls. A close second for BM Oatmeal was BM Simply Irresistible, but it looked a little too yellow. Good luck!!

Thanks everyone! We are installing hardwood throughout the entire downstairs.The revere pewter is actually through french doors off of both rooms but you can't really see itwell from either room so I am not so worried about that going with the other rooms as much. It is mainly this view I want to flow well. I considered van cortland blue for the formal living room but it might be too dark/bold for me. I tend to be more neutral/conservative when decorating. And yes I love the yarmouth blue but don't think I want it everywhere. It looks perfect in the dining room.

Beth, I do like the edgecomb. The Dining Room and our living room are connected because our house is a cape. So both rooms have to be the same color - currently edgecomb. If I change the dining room paint I have the repaint the living room also. The hallway and kitchen header that faces into the dining room also have to be the same colors because of the way they flow together. (That header is the only part of the kitchen that will be painted as the other two walls will be cabinets and backsplash. The family room, which is open facing the kitchen, is the only room where I could make a clean break and change colors, but I want those two rooms to be cohesive, just struggling to pull it all together.

I like a color called "Toasted Wheat" from Behr. Whole Wheat is probably very near the same color. I am not familiar with Whole Wheat, but it sounds like a great color. I think Blonde is less subtle than Whole Wheat (Toasted Wheat in my case) and you need something subtle to cleanse the palate.

Based on your fabric, I would go with the Whole Wheat. A good picture of the Blonde is in "Favorite Yellows and Golds" thread a little ways down from your post. (I believe it is the second picture in that thread).

The background of the fabric almost looks like a green on my monitor. If it is, and your still thinking of color ideas, what about a green?

I will have to go with a gold tone. The fabric background is not green, so thats not a option. My fear with whole wheat is I am afraid it might look dark on the walls. I think I will get a sample and paint on a cardboard and see how that goes.

Hi susatl! I am curious if you painted your family room in whole wheat after all. I am also considering that color for my FR,foyer,hall. My kitchen is a dark, garden green SW artichoke, so I'm debating between believable buff or whole wheat. Let me know!

Hi susatl.......I have ivorie, Restrained gold & Blonde in my home. The only pic in my album showing the Blonde is the craftroom . The restrained gold is a pretty color also. Good luck with your selection......bonnie
