I was always so envious of Miss Glenda going on those cruises! And then when my mom died in October 2008, I got a real taste of how quickly our time on earth goes...

So this time last year, two girlfriends and I booked a cruise to the Bahamas! After planning and saving for a year, we just returned a few weeks ago. We had a BLAST! It exceeded all of our expectations!

Miss Glenda, our penthouse suite got us VIP embarkation. We were the third people on the ship! Loved it, loved snorkeling, loved everything. Well, except that it ended too soon. :-(

THANK YOU, Miss Glenda, for being such a horrible (*grin*) influence on me!

After snorkeling, we hit the beach and picked up rocks and shells with our toes! The water really IS that blue, and it wasn't cold!

Well, miss Rita, those look like you had GREAT fun. and here I was sitting, wondering how you did in the latest Oklahoma snow.

Carrie, you hit the nail squarely on the head -- some days the enormity of planting my roses can get to me. Most days, though, I'm really excited about setting them free from their pot prisons. Our property has been farm land for its entire history, so our soil is not the usual rocky Virginia clay that I'm used to. In most places, I can easily sink a shovel its entire depth, and the soil that comes up is varying shades of brown. My pH is a little low, but I'll be able to work with that. Since you asked, here are a couple of 'before' photos of the area by the barn that I see as becoming a killer rose garden. The soil there is even better than I've seen anywhere else -- I guess it was all those cows and stuff milling around for so many years that did the trick. Under this mound of honeysuckle is an old cattle chute. During the first day of barn renovation a few weeks ago, I had the equipment operator clear out all the rotten fencing and overgrowth while he was waiting to work on the building. Here's the equipment doing its thing: The south side of the barn, after the cattle chute was removed. We've owned this place for 5 years (though we've only lived here for 5 months) and I had never seen this view because of all the overgrowth. I left the gate that had been at the end of the cattle chute because I liked it and I thought I could use it in the garden. I see it with smallish climbers at each corner. Here's the barn progress as of a few days ago. I think it will be a wonderful backdrop to a country rose garden. BTW, it IS all Robert's fault. Without his example, I would probably have gone about all of this in a much more controlled manner. Seeing what he has created in his garden gives me the encouragement to do roses on a much broader scale, and the courage to try things without the fear of making mistakes. Thank you, my friend. Waterbug guy, that definitely happens here as well. The floaters in the pond suffer from nibbling! What we do is we start them in the settling chamber and the top of the waterfall, then as they grow and spread we put some into the pond. If the fish are at them a lot we trade them back with others, but if they stay ahead we don't have to. This was definitely one of the years we didn't have to! One possible variable, I saw my DH feed the fish a few weeks back and he feeds them A LOT!! I'm the weekday fish feeder and he's the weekend fish feeder. So maybe they didn't get quite enough food other years? Another weird thing about this year: the last two weeks or more, the water temp has been in the sixties... lower sixties... and is now 57 degrees, we had our first nip of night frost saturday night - so why are the WH still blooming?!?! I brought another wheelbarrowful to the compost heap yesterday.... The surface was covered 80-90% again. And I do want the sun to shine into the water this time of year, so the fish can warm themselves. I guess I have to get the low temp fish food out! :) Mary

Thank you all. :) I feel like she was sent to us for a reason and we love her so much. She hasn't snapped at me in almost a week. LOL She still doesn't care much for our pug kids but we're making tiny steps in the right direction. I took a chance on her level of trust in me and cut her hair earlier. She done very! well , much to my suprise. Healthwise, she's on a roll in the right direction. Finally putting on some weight (she was 9 whole lbs @ her vet checkup :( ) , her hair is growing back and her owies are healing. I hope on hope there's a special place in hell for the person that treated her so badly and the more I work with her and learn , the more I hope that person goes there. That isn't neccessarily the right way to think but from my experience and in working with her , I've figured out she was absolutly loved , pampered and trained by someone in her former life and then for whatever reason landed in the wrong hands. I took her to a public event and she socially gravitated toward older gentleman and not even knowing them , sat ever so gently next to them at their feet. I really think she was owned by such a gentleman and then he met an unfortunate fate of some type (i.e. nursing home, facility or worse) and whomever was supposed to care for her in a way he hoped, sure failed her miserably. She lets me work with her , love on her and care for her BUT she truly thinks the sun rises and sets on my husband so she certainly puts more trust in men than women. Lucky for her , he loves her as much as she does him or she'd be in trouble (or I would...LOL). Anyways, that's the Honey update. :) Have a safe and happy holiday weekend everyone!!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Let me see if I can answer every question. OA and Sandi, The raven napkin ring was one of a set of four different-spider(YIKES),skull,raven,and I can't remember at the moment what the forth one was. Got them at Target as well as the napkins,tablerunner,purple skulls, and little black metal skeleton. The black and orange haunted house plates came from Michaels. DD, I never saw Psycho. Too chicken for scary movies! Luvs, the spiderweb plates came from Walmart,but the black cat is just a cut out shape from a package I bought. I liked it and laid it in the plate for some contrast decoration. Sorry. But I love your black cat. Judith, I can't wait to see the tree you create with all of that silver. Kathleen, I love your ghost placemats. Thanks Prosperity. I'm sorry you didn't have much luck finding Halloween items this year. I hope you find more next year. I had a fun day shopping. Looking forward to the good times next year with the grandkids. My 14 year old with participate too if I have food!! He will eat anything. Betty

Ahhhhhhhhh looks like heaven from what I saw!

I'd love to be there, rather than here gazing out the window to see huge piles of snow and ice!

I saw your thread...what ship were you on? Was it one that has a future booking desk? Sensation didn't have that. :-( Sure looks like you had a great time!

I soooooooo want to introduce DH to cruising! But he has his heart set on Alaska. *sigh* Alas, that will be summer 2011. We gotta save up a ton of $$ for that! I hear the excursions are awesome and we MUST have a balcony!

And Carnival assigned us another PVP after I first booked with Cameron. ?? Guess they like to spread it around OR maybe it has do with where vacations are from. Not sure!

Liberty was my ship.
I didn't get an upgrade. Tried my darndest! But they were FULL!

February, 011, we're going Southern Caribbean for 8 days: St Maarten, St Lucia, St Kitts (been there, but I'll go again)

The future bookings was on promenade deck right outside the casino on deck 5, by the sushi bar.

Went on Princess cruise lines to AK.

It sounds like both of you had good cruises!! If I ever go I'll have to get the upgraded room too (I get claustrophobic).

And BTW, Glenda, we paid full price (Early Saver rate) for that suite. It wasn't an upgrade... :-(

What a wonderful vacation! Yep you need to introduce your husband to cruising- after last week's snow maybe he'll be ready to book a cruise now!
