American Idol starts tonight...

..anybody watching this season? A couple new judges. New days... Wednesdays and Thursdays. Wish they hadn't done that.. now I'm going to have to miss "The Office" or else figure out how to set the dvr.

I don't care much for the auditions, but it'll be interesting to see how the new judges react to the contestants that aren't very good.

The very first person to audition had such a nice voice, but he'll never hold up against the competition. He's the one with the high toned voice. He'd be a great crooner like the old time balladiers but not quite for today's pop culture. I really hate the audition weirdos and really wish they'd show us more of the real wannabees who at least have decent voices. Teresa, I try to predict, too. At least that part is fun LOL. Most often I can tell by the sound of their speaking voice and the resonance, like you. One sure fire way to tell is if they have a hoarse voice. You know that's a singer - an untrained one but a singer nonetheless. But then, lots of famous singers are also hoarse and they've had training, like Whitney Houston. I'm surprised she can talk or sing at all.

I missed Naima's performance, and I wanted to hear her. I was thinking that Thia Megia had some pitch problems, but then Steven Tyler immediately said she was pitch perfect. I have a pretty good musical ear, but I'm willing to concede the argument to Steven. I wasn't thrilled with her, though. I agree that Lauren Alaina, at 16, is a complete natural. I think she'll go far in the competition. I disagreed with Jennifer's assessment that Lauren Turner (?) was holding back in her performance. I'm unfamiliar with the song she sang, but it seemed to me that she put everything into it. I also disagreed with Randy when he said Haley didn't bring anything unique to the Alicia Keys song ("Falling in and Out of Love"). I thought she really made it her own. I missed some others in the first half hour. I read that somebody sang the Fiona Apple song "Criminal," which I would have liked have heard because I like it. I liked Pia's performance. I wondered if the standing ovation was entirely in response to her song, or maybe partly inspired by the fact that she was the last singer. I thought she did a good job, though. I wasn't bored. :-) PS: How does the wild card thing work?

I am so glad the judges see the amazing talents that Casey has, Steven really was getting into it stating his mind last night LOL The kid is one of the best musicians, even the shows pros are amazed by his skills and his voice. I think Haley did the best performance so far last night, she is redeeming herself. James was very good, he is original. Jacob is getting boring, he was much better before they reigned him in, Randy keeps telling him to let go and do it like he did in the early days but the people working with him are not allowing him to do that they keep pulling him back. He needs to stand his ground like Casey and James did and do what he feels. Stephano did not impress. Scotty is going to be a major country star no matter what happens on the show and I am glad he is sticking to his guns and doing what is right for him. Country is a big enough genre to support that. Lauren is very good but as Jennifer said needs to let it go big, quit holding back.

I don't usually like the first part of the show, but I'm curious about the new judges this season. I'll watch at least tonight.

I don't know if we will watch this year, I'm so fed up with Yo Dawg and Ryan Seacrest. . . and I will miss Simon. I think I'm done with it.

I hate to look at Steven Tyler but he has a hysterical sense of humor. I could look at Jennifer Lopez all day. I think she is one of the most beautiful entertainers that there is today. Randy seems toned down a little and I'm glad. (I meant verbally but he HAS lost weight! LOL)

I tune in and out, Randy looked so good. Lost more weight? Different hair cut? Jennifer is so beautiful, and was so nice. Steven Tyler is just plain creepy and ugly. I'll still tune in and out for most of the season. Like DWTS, the show started with an interesting premise, but they just have to enlarge it with boring and unneeded stuff.

I watched it and enjoyed it. Randy looks great, Jennifer was a breath of fresh air and Steve Tyler brings a nice edge to it BTW, Steve lives not far from me and is a terrific human being despite the rock image. He donates his time to so many causes and is just a regular neighbor to others. Give him a chance. He's a sweet man.

I LOVE Steven Tyler, agree he is a very nice man. I love his sense of humor he had me laughing several times last night.(also love his daughter Liv she is a doll)
Jennifer is a sweetheart she really hates to say no to them.
She is a beautiful lady. Randy looks good he does look like he lost more weight. I am really liking the new judges. They really seem to have gelled together well and I thought in all they were delightful. Glad to have real singers/artists as judges so that the judges know what to Judge! As they said last night it is after all a singing competition.
I think we will see some great talent this season.

I loved the new judges. I think they are going to be great and it's going to be a good season. I thought they all "meshed" really well. Steven Tyler was funny and Jennifer Lopez is so cute and seems so nice. I'm really going to enjoy watching.
