You should check with your DR. as some can be quite dangerous. You need some natural bacteria in the colon and some can destroy too much.

I think it is all hogwash. We NEED our colon the have bacteria, that is what keeps it healthy. I believe it can be dangerous.

Talk to your Doctor. I used a Colon Cleanser when I felt it was necessary. My Doctor told me not to use it more than twice weekly.

But, now I have Flax Seed and Activa.

Dh has been asking about colon cleansing. I have mixed feelings about it. I agree that bacteria in the colon is good. However, the American diet with the fast food, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup in everything, and hydrogenated oils can take a toll on the body, as many of these ingredients are "man-made." DH isn't a perfect eater and is trying to change his ways, but wants to try colon cleansing. I'm sure he should ask a doctor first, but it sounds like some docs are saying to avoid it?

Colon cleansing diets can be dangerous.

Bearcat, if your DH is that worried about what he consumes, he should just change his diet! Does he know a colon-cleansing will result in massive diarrhea? Cramping? Possible dehydration? For days?

Ask your Doctor, plain and simple. I have seen some nasty things (bad diarhea for an extended period) happen to folks who have self-diagnosed and used these products. Be careful!

OK. Who hasn't suffered from the dreaded pain of constipation? I would never take a laxative or anything hoarse. When you take a colon cleanser, it will be about 24-26 hours before you have relief. There is no cramping. All it does is allow the waste to pass smoothly through your colon.

Yes, a proper diet will prevent this, but holidays and vacations are tough when you aren't accustomed to certain foods.

I will keep my colon cleanser for those times that they are needed.

My SIL, who has MS and was in remission, tried this, not on doctor's orders, and it set her back big time.

Another friend,who was diagnosed with diverticulitis (not sure of SP), did this as a "self help". She ended up with major surgery, had to have a colostomy temporarily. Not a pretty picture. She did have the colon re-connected but it was not fun, trust me.

I agree....hogwash. I've said it before when this subject came up elsewhere. The colon is self cleansing, it's commonly known as pooping.

Whenever a 114 year old person is being interviewed about how they've managed to live so long, I've never heard one attribute it to anything to do with cleansing their colon. In fact, there's a new-fangled procedure called colonoscopy, where you can actually see that there isn't 20 feet of 'stuff' in there that's ruining your life and health, and stealing your energy. As for the toxins, which toxins are those exactly? Every time I ask that question of someone who buys into this stuff, surprise!!, they can't name even one. There are some 'ancient Japanese foot pads' being advertised on late night TV right now that promise the same thing, and you can send in the pads so they can 'read them' and send you back the results of all the parasites, toxins, etc., that these pads 'pull' from your poor poisened (no doubt by eating a modern diet) body. The great health advantage that all these cures have is the health of the bank account of the company you buy them from. At a thousand percent or better mark up on this junk, those accounts are extremely healthy, lol. Hogwash is a good description, although it may not be safe to wash a hog with it.

I used the one advertised on tv. a couple years ago.It worked,I only did it once.I didnt have any adverse reactions .But cant use them now way too much phosphorus not good for kidneys.

I actually mis-read lindasew. That's what I get for being in a hurry. I was thinking about the use of duck tape to remove plantar warts. It really works. According to my friend, her husband has used it on a wart (you leave it on for days), and the wart shriveled up and fell off.

Wonder if it would work for wrinkles and cellulite?
