Trane XR15 install - two stage?
Comments (16)opakm....sorry for the late response. The state rebate information can be found on: http://www.texaspowerfulsmart.org/rebate/ However, it ended right after I had my system installed. I'm sorry. I LOVE my system. I am very happy that I got it. I have noticed a huge difference in the comfort of my home and my utility bill. My bills are around $80-$100 less a month....and I keep my house about 3-4 degrees cooler (about 74-75). I have since added solar screens (highly recommend....as long as you don't mind your house being a bit darker) and some insulation in the attic. I haven't had an electric bill since I've had that installed...and I will try to post how much it all has saved me. Honestly though, it's not all about the cost savings, but the comfort that my family and I have with the new system. Which system did you end up getting? How has it turned out for you?...See MoreHelp w/ Trane XR15 Quotes
Comments (13)Help  we bought a house built in 1994 with two central air systems. We had to replace the 3T system in 2006 and did so with a Trane. Now the 2T system is gone and we have three confusing quotes. Also, the existing air handler space is narrow only 21.5 inches wide. The old handler is a Tempstar BEA24A model NBH3024SKB2. The quotes are (prices installed w/o Tax credit): Lennox $5757 16 SEER for XC14-024 AND CB27UH-024 AND 10 YEAR WARRANTY REEM $3994 16.5 SEER for 14AJM24A01 and RHLLHM2517JA including $500 for 10 year warranty labor TRANE $6240 20 SEER for 4TTZ0024A and 4TEE3CO3A (but this seems wider than 21.5 inches) 10 year warranty So first since I have a relatively new Trane, IÂd like to also have another Trane just so warranty issues are easier. I think the XL15i should be slightly cheaper and do the job..BUT is there a Trane system with an air handler under 20" wide? How does the REEM stack up against Trane? Bother the version bid and an XL15 system if it can fit? Same question for Lennox With FloridaÂs heavier usage of A/C which is the better system and do you have any alternatives we should consider?? Comments (9)Thanks TigerDunes. The dealer seemed apprehensive with suggesting the XL16i unit. But I think he was trying to meet my requirement of handling the heavier load during hot summer days and family/friend parties. My understanding is that if it is 95 degrees outside, then the unit should be able to cool the inside of the house to 75 degrees. Is this correct? The 2-stage compressor sounds like a very convenient/flexible feature, but (like you said) the actual implementation/performance appears to not measure up in a real world situation. Maybe Trane still has some work to be done to make this unit a real viable solution. I also realize that adding features can contribute to a more complex unit. A more complex unit can have more parts that can fail. The dealer only mentioned the changing of ductwork between the return and air-handler (from 16in to 18in). But no change in the ductwork from the air handler to the floor vents. Thanks again for all your help. Sincerely,...See MoreBuying a new Trane heat pump ; Some questions
Comments (2)Brad Have you decided on a 2 ton or 2 1/2 ton system? If going up in size, ductwork should be surveyed to see if it can handle the additional air. The main benefit of the var speed air handler is improved dehumidification in AC cooling plus improved efficiency. There is a less expensive alternative on the var speed air handler and that would be the GAM5 air handler with the high eff blower motor but not var speed. Worth considering. I personally prefer the XR13 HP model over the XB series. To your questions #1 already answered. 2. What mdl air handler was quoted? 3. Pricing on the VS air handler is high 4.you must have an air handler or furnace with evap coil to drive the condenser. Var speed blower motors and high eff blower motors yield better efficiency 5.each increase in a SEER point yields up to 4-5% in electric savings. What size heat strip was quoted? What are you doing now about filtering your return air? Post back. IMO...See Moregolfer1512
