It's almost pointless to have a conversation with you here. You make too many baseless assumptions like the quotes above. I asked you to re-evaluate how you think, not to think like me. The United States passed a law called the "Fugitive Slave Act", mandating that people return runaways slaves to their masters. Many people refused to do this and harbored slaves. While this was a clear violation of the law it certainly was not wrong to do this. The law was wrong. More recent and relevant: In 2007 California passed a law limiting the amount of hours you can tether your dog to 3 hours at time. This was done because some people keep their dogs chained up for their entire lives. They spend years on these chains and sometimes their collars become embedded in their skin. The fact that this was legal before 2007 and illegal now has nothing to do with whether it is morally right or wrong. I bring this up because you stated "as long as it's legal" that options like poisoning, dehydration, and drowning are acceptable. Legality has nothing to do with morality. It is a self-centered view to purposely prolong an animals suffering simply because 1) it's legal 2) it's convenient. While humans are animals we like consider ourselves more sophisticated than the other species of the planet. Humans should be HUMANE. That means killing animals quickly and respectfully with the minimum amount of suffering possible.

Carrier equipment comes with a 10 year parts equipment provided the installer registers the equipment at the time of the installation. If he does not, then it may only be a 5 year warranty. In 2010 it was possible to buy a 10 year labor warranty directly from Carrier. I am not 100% sure, but I believe only Carrier Factory Authorized Dealers are paid the labor charges for the labor warranty. If you can't find the paper work, you should be able to call Carrier and give them the serial numbers of the condensers. The warranty should be in their records. You don't need a service contract. You should do period maintenance in order to prove the equipment is being maintained in case their is a dispute with Carrier. How big is your house? I know temperatures in Arizona can easily hit the low 100s, but 10 tons of cooling is still a lot. Have an evaluation done of the duct work. My suspicion is the duct work is too small and may have caused the compressor to fail prematurely. Most houses don't have duct work large enough for one 5 ton unit. Duct work for two 5 tons units would be an impressive installation.

I've seen fins destroyed by dog pee...one of the reasons I picked my condenser off the ground with concrete blocks & put the pad on top. the height of the dog...determines the spray pattern as the urine drips down it coats the fins below. if it just the bottom 2-3" it shouldn't be a problem. there should be a plate with model numbers on the outside of the condensing unit..or a plastic tag. too often the writing fades away. I sort of miss those engraved tags, even though sometimes you had to take a pencil & paper & make a rubbing to read the model number. compressor only has model number of compressor. as to cooling maybe set tstat to 76 & see if that helps. better for unit to run for a long time than to stop & start. if heat/humidity has built up in the house during the day then it will take longer to cool at night. do you set tstat differently on weekends? how does it keep up then? I'd play with tstat before calling home warranty co. it may be that you'll solve the problem yourself. best of luck.

I wish it were that simple Mike & Tiger. There is no AC brand that is more reliable than another. So many factors go into play here that it would be impossible to come to any 'realistic' conclusion. I see break downs of every single brand, 1yr old, 2yr old, 5yr old, 10yr old doesn't matter. I will tell you I mostly sell Goodman and ICP branded equipment. There is nothing wrong with either of these brands. Goodman is made in America, ICP is made in Mexico. It is what it is. Part of my decision is part availability, the other part is distributors who often challenge warranty claims and give me nothing but hassles to claim warranty parts. If someone requests one brand over another I do what I can to get them what they want. If I have a distributor that doesn't give me any grief with warranty claims or as in the case of Trane --- exclusivity when their product isn't any more special than anything else and they have proprietary parts on most parts of the unit... so when that unit breaks I am putting my customer down to wait on parts. Who wants to pay a premium for equipment only to be with out AC because the parts house is closed when the unit breaks down? Parts houses are only open around 8-5 and sometimes of the year 8-12 on Saturday. You want to pay a premium for equipment only to have to wait around for parts when the unit breaks? I typically pay more attention to serious break downs like leaking coils, compressor failure etc. Because these types of failures cost me money to my bottom line. Since I started my own Company (2008) I have not had a single compressor failure on any Condenser that I have 'originally' installed. I have had roughly 6 coils fail within the warranty period of the coil. I would say in terms of percentages probably around 3% of the equipment I've put in. (I do all the work myself, no subs, no installers.) National average for this figure is likely 25-35% or worse... because when I worked for national HVAC company anytime this figure hit above 25% at that company we were scolded to slow down and do more thorough job. I've used multiple brands thru the years, but switched to Goodman and ICP because of better part availability, easier warranty returns with nothing really preventing me in terms of "exclusivity" nonsense. With that said... nothing is perfect when it comes to HVAC.
