Wolf vs. Viking: Time to Boil, Simmer comparison??
Comments (25)Tyguy, thanks for the kind comments. Also, for clarifying that Viking is equally hard to clean. If it was much easier, I would've been tempted to second guess my Wolf decision again. Jscout, you've very kind to take the time to reintroduce the CC possibility. I know CC is superior functionally speaking. I originally excluded the BS and CC because of looks (just not crazy about the lines) and brand recognition for reasons of resale (very Wolf/Viking oriented neighborhood in area of country that's slow to pick up on "new" trends like BS/CC) and finally, b/c I didn't have a local dealer. I really want to buy from a local dealer, and to have a range that our local appliance guys work on frequently enough that they're proficient. We don't have a ton of repairmen in the area. The Wolf AG really feels right, but the GW crowd has been so kind and generous in offering their time and opinions (usually that BS abd CC are superior!)--and I just learned that BS is, in fact, sold locally--I feel I should really physically look at the Blue Star in person before I absolutely rule it out based on looks (which I did solely from BS Website pics). I'll do this on Monday. I'm completely convinced that BS and CC are superior from a functionality standpoint...I've watched the videos, etc. But unless I really can't simmer worth a darn with the Wolf AG (one of my concerns was that it won't simmer low enough) I think I'll be happy with the good functionality, great looks, awesome ergonomics (burners are only 6" away from the cook, which really helps upper back/neck pain), and confidence from a resale standpoint. My mid will be open on Monday, though :-) Thanks, so much, for the help!!...See MoreCook's Country Corned Beef & Cabbage
Comments (17)DC, I do something similar with our corned beef. My husband is on a salt-restricted diet, but he & I dearly love corned beef. So when it's on sale for St. Patrick's Day, I get a hunk and soak it for two days, changing the water at least 2 times a day. Then I cook it in fresh water in my slow cooker. Once the water comes to a simmer/boil in the slow cooker, I change the water again. I know I'm losing flavor, but these are necessary steps for his health's sake. Yet in spite of all that water, the corned beef tastes pretty good -- much milder than regular but tasty nonetheless. So we can enjoy a corned beef & cabbage dinner and corned beef sandwiches for lunch the next day. And no swollen, painful feet or congested lungs from over indulging....See MoreLOOKING for: Low country boil
Comments (6)Glenda..you lucky gal! I tried to get lunch reservations while there last Aug-but they were full with a 2 hour wait. From what I understood-they close after the lunch hours, then reopen for dinner a couple hours later. Is that true? Jessie...I love Savannah! If given a choice-I would live there. Nothing more beautiful than walking under those gorgeous trees in the Squares and sitting along the Savannah River watching the ships-and the oysters there are to die for!!...See MoreSheet Pan Shrimp Boil
Comments (26)"chloebud -- salad? LOL!" Yup...my crew always wants a salad. Your post made me think of this with salmon that's also an easy/tasty one. It comes from "Sheet Pan Suppers," but then meals like this don't really require a book. Lemon Roasted Salmon and Vegetables 1 1/2 pounds, cut into 4 pieces 1 pound of asparagus, trimmed (or green beans) Large cherry tomatoes 1/2 red onion, into large chunks 2 cloves garlic, sliced 1 lemon 2 T. olive oil 2 T. butter Sea salt Black pepper On a sheet pan, scatter asparagus, tomatoes, onion, lemons and sliced garlic. Drizzle on olive oil. Sprinkle with sea salt and toss. Top with salmon. Put a lemon slice and bit of butter on each salmon piece, then sprinkle with sea salt. Bake in 425 oven for 20-25 minutes until salmon is cooked through. Serve on a platter with sauce from pan drizzled over the top....See Morejimster
