I've had the Staub 5 qt. (linked below) for a couple of years and am really happy with it. It has the spikes on the underside of the lid, which is supposed to help baste the contents. I also have a small oval Le Creuset that I like equally well and use often because the size is just right when cooking for just the two of us.

I love those leCresuet pots, but they are too heavy for me to lift easily, so I'll live precariously through you. What color are we going to get? :-0

Ditto the above. I have a generic (Macy's brand) pot that I usually use, and I also have one bought many years ago, in a kitchen supply company that I like. It's problem is it is too large for just the two of us, unless I want to make extra to freeze.

Odd you should mention that about your Revere Ware copper clad pot. My son noticed at Christmas that I have the same problem with mine.

I have a 6 quart cast iron, enameled dutch oven made by Lodge that I use freqently for soups and stews. It is heavy when full but so far I can manage. Other than managing the weight, it is easy to clean. I'm very, very satisfied with it. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to get the 5-1/2 quart LeCreuset if I had the need or desire for it.

I have a 50 year plus revere ware BIG pot that was my mothers. I am 50 years old and she always made soup in it. so it is older than dirt. It is still even on the bottom and looks really good for something that old. We do everything in it. Soup, lobster steaming you name it. I have a smaller revere one too, that I use for smaller amounts, but that big one is great for making stock out of turkey carcasses.... tee hee.

Think that will last me and probably DD too, when I am done with the cooking in it.

I just bought 2 new SS soup pots at IKEA. I got a 3qt and a 5qt. They are nice and heavy and I love using them. I got them in the "as is" section, nothing wrong with them, probably had been on display. The 3qt was $3.50 and the 5qt was $5.00! I couldn't afford to not buy them.

I will have to go back to my storage unit, and hunt for my big pot. Mine is actually a pasta pot, with the insert that you can pull up to drain the pasta. But it is GREAT as a soup/stock pot.

There just isn't a "big pot" here.

My soup pot isn't Le Creuset, it's Chantal. Not too big. I could use bigger, but then I could not lift it. I love it for anything which needs to simmer. I do have the thin bottomed Revereware too--it's hard to get a nice simmer on those. You have it cooking too hard (nearly boiling), then it's not enough motion of the food at a simmer. I'm constantly adjusting the heat on the Revereware.

I notice the difference when I have to go to the bigger Revereware.

As for the weight--it's no joke. And they don't go in the dishwasher either. I put it to soak a while, wash and let it drain. It's not too bad because it isn't very large.

My "Soup Pot" is my 6qt. Nesco roaster, just made beef veg. soup the other day, yummy, with the snow days we have been having love eating a large bowl of hot soup. Not a lot of snow here in northern Delaware but tonight we are having the 4 storm in less than 3 weeks.

I THOUGHT I wanted a. LeCruset until I picked one up. I'm just not big enough or strong enough to enjoy them...though they're certainly nice looking. I bought a 5 qt Calphalon from Amazon and love it! Not expensive either...$50

If I make a large batch of soup I use one of my stock pots, but just recently bought a 4 quart Grand Gourmet stainless steel one that has a heavy bottom. I would like a 6 quart one, but I don't know if they make one in that size. I have a very large kettle that my daughter gave me and it is really heavy and I seldom use it. Oh, my four quart one I got on sale for $24.99 I think.

I still have the Revere Ware that was bought when my DH and I got our first apartment. That would be 1945. The set included the Dutch Oven, two sauce pans, all with lids, and a skillet. It is Hammered Aluminum and the cost for all 4 pieces was $19.45. I remember that so clearly. Bought in 1945 for $19.45.

They have been in constant use since then, except the skillet got warped and finally had to be thrown away. The bottoms on the other pieces are still as flat as new.

I still make my soups in that Dutch Oven.

I came across some Le Creuset pieces at Home Goods. They weren't huge ones, but they still were extremely heavy. (I was going to try a pot roast recipe by Ina Garten.)

Then I checked out Macys, for their Martha Stewart lookalike pieces. They were nice, but the reviews on Macy's website said they chip very easily, and even the ones on display were chipped.

I went back to Home Goods and started looking at the SS ones, and I found an 8-quart tri-clad Tramontina stock pot/dutch oven, which wasn't terribly expensive. It's a bit larger than I wanted, but it worked great for the recipe!

I have a few LeCreuset including one that size, I rarely use them anymore due to their weight and my arthritis and failing hands just can not handle them.
I do own and love my Magnalite pots, they are not as weight heavy as the LeCreuset but are still good thick pots. I have a full set plus 3 sizes of the stock pots and the roaster and a few other pieces. In Louisiana the Magnalite is handed down and is a prized possession. So many lost all their wonderful old Magnalite in Rita and Katrina.

My hubby got me a set for Christmas last year love em..He got mine in the catalog Chef.I then bought the big 51/2qt in red.I made chicken corn soup over the weekend and yesterday clam chowder.Its sdo nice to just warm up supper instead of cooking when I come home from dialysis.Ill make either a sandwich or salad for hubby, I cant eat much anyway.Now I heard they have an outlet dont know where though maybe google.Wagmans have them too.

Nesco here too. Soup, stew, chili, poultry, pork, beef, you name it, just about, I still like the convenience of the Nesco. Otherwise, my Ingenio pot started losing the nonstick so I bought a stainless steel Dutch Oven but don't use it very often. Occasionally like to use something different but still wind up going back to the old reliable.

I have two complete sets of pots & pans. Anodized Magnalite and Wedgwood everyday stainless. The Mag is really heavy, the stainless is very light. :0) It's something to consider when making a purchase.

Most folks don't realize you can go to a Restaurant Supply house and buy commercial pots. Used to be you had to be in the Biz to shop there but no more. A good professional stainless pot is the best and will last forever!
