Transitions or mixed cork and hardwood
Comments (2)I was thinking more of how to tie the two together visually, blend them, do a pattern to integrate them both - of course, everything I'm thinking of means more waste and more labor -- more $$$. DH seemed to consider the idea of all three rooms in cork and the rest in wood tonight. Now, I thought cork was supposed to be more reasonably priced and the one we both like so much is $12 sq ft before installation....See Morehardwood and tile mixed floor
Comments (4)This might not be helpful, but we have hardwoods in the front-dining room, library, foyer & we've just ripped out the carpet/tile mix in our kitchen/family room-sounds sort of like yours-one large room. We refinished the d.r & library shortly after we moved in 6 yrs. ago, then after 2 yrs., replaced the vinyl in the hall/half bath w/ hardwood. My husband didn't want to replace the tile, because it was relatively new, but it was 'distressed' ceramic tile, so it had little pits to hold the dirt & I HATED it! The carpet suffered through several aging pets' illnesses (enough said-it was gross). It was a horrible job to rip out the tile, but they stained it today & the poly goes on tomorrow & it's going to look amazing! It cost just under $5K,(they moved all the appliances, except dw, & did oak underneath). After watching them rip up the tile, I'd never have it again (but most people don't put in tile, thinking they'll have to remove it). Comments (6)yes, what is MCM? K Laurenmce yes I am referring to "wood look" tile. If I want to keep some hardwood in the home. What is a tile that blends nicely next to hardwood? I am going to go with white cabinets. Ms. Wheeler I appreciate the feedback, but I want to better utilize the space in our home. We have a large dining room that gets used a handful of times each year. I could use that space for kitchen and an island....See MoreHardwood and tile mixing
Comments (5)In order to give a better response its always best to see the floor plan as it relates to overall flow of the space. Generally speaking to have the same flooring throughout lends itself to the home being more spacious - that being said however having the general area where the traffic flow is more its good to have a hard surface and then transition to the bedrooms into softer softer such as woods. Either way is quite acceptable depending on ones personal choices and lifestyles.
