Depends, if it's easy to peel, I'll peel it. If not, I do just like you, cut in wedges.

My students used to peel with their fingers. I never could.

I prefer to peel and eat but if they don't peel easily then I do what you did, Glenda. Was it good? The last orange I ate was really lousy! Looked great but no flavor, what a disappointment.

You really brought back some memories for me. I had totally forgotten about mother cutting the hole and we would suck the juice. That was always our bedtime treat, have not eaten an orange like that in more than 60 years. Still love oranges and normally peel them first and eat.

I peel it with my fingers then separate the sections and eat the sections one by one. Can't stand eating it off the rind.

I cut into sections like you, Glenda. I put the peelings in the garbage disposal to make it smell sweet - my 3 yr. old DGS wants his cut like mine and puts it in the sink too - We sshould be getting fresh oranges strting next week-end - nothing loike eating oranges the day after they are picked... hmmmmm... Maybe they'll start at tomorrow's Farmer's Market...

Cut in wedges. I love oranges. My daughter lives in Florida and has just about every kind of citrus tree there is plus avocados and bananas. I hope she sends me some oranges this year.

I've been cutting and eating mine like Glenda. Learned it when kids played soccer and oranges were always the snack. Of course that was Redlands, California in the middle of a bunch of orange orchards.

One way or another ... it usually finds its way into my mouth, section by section (or maybe a couple of sections at a time).

For clementines, use thumbnail to lift rind about a half inch from the end, two or three times side by side, then lift the end and peel down in a spiral. Split the sections in half, spread the two halves a little, pull the centre strips free and put them with the rind, then into the bag of compostables.

Pretty well use the same pattern with an orange, peeling it with a knife.

I am in the midst of eating a box of Clementines myself. I grab two and peel them, remove the center strips, then section each little piece. Then eat! Oh yum!

When I was in high school we lived right in the middle of orange groves. We would just cut them into sections and eat from the peel. I never had a store bought orange until I was an adult!

I cut mine the same way you do, Glenda. We just started picking the big navel oranges on our tree and oh, my, how sweet and good!! The tangerines and grapefruit need to ripen a bit more. The lemons are also huge and sooo juicy. Bettye/AZ

I like to score the top and bottom and then a few lines down the sides and then it's pretty easy to peel by hand and eat the sections.

Reminds me of how do you eat corn on the cob? Left to right like a typewriter or round and round. I'm more of the typist kind, lol.

One year, lived in Clearwater Fl for summer. Somewhere, we stopped by the side of the road and owner let us pick grapefruit and oranges.

Got back home to AL and planted those seeds. Lo and behold, had one grapefruit and one orange plant to grow inside the house. Never produced fruit. But we could tell what the plant was by bending the leaves and smelling them.

Had those two for over ten years.

I don't eat oranges anymore, they bother me. However I can eat and eat Clementines. I have a five pound box I am working on. I just peel away and eat the sections.

Glenda, I eat mine the way you do, except I then cut each of the wedges in half "through the middle" to I have square-ish pieces. Just bite size. I hold them by the skin, and bite out the goodies.

Clean fingers, no juice running down my mouth.

I love oranges! And since my insulin seems to be working, I can actually eat one now and then!

When I was a kid, I remember my Mother and/or Grandmother cutting a hole in the top...and sticking a piece of a candy cane in the hole, then we'd suck the peppermint flavored juice! Gawsh..that was GOOD!!

When its a regular orange, I will try to peel it and if can't, then I take a knife and cut enough to grab the peel and peel it and then eat it.

With mandarin oranges which I am eating right now, I will peel it and I have to keep the papers, not throw them away like so many do and put the peel on the paper and then I take the white stuff and must take that off as it gets in my mouth and I go ugh and out it comes.

I can just peel and eat a mandarin. But navel oranges I slice. I like to cut the orange in half top to bottom, then slice the half into 3-4 slices. So I've got half circle slices 1/3 inch or so thick. That way when I "stretch" the slice to the rind is straight, the little trianglar sections just pop out. That's how I like an orange. I slice one, put it back together in a ball, then in a baggie for lunches (mine and the kids).

My 7 y/o loves oranges and is eating 2 a day lately. We bought some very good navels a few days ago. I love citrus season! Loved it when we lived in Floria, too. The trees look so pretty with all those bright orange balls on them, like the whole orchard is decorated for Christmas. ;o)

I like the clementines because the kids can peel them themselves. The huge naval oranges went on sale this week.

I got a big bag. I cut those up into eight pieces. The kids prefer those as a snack over junk food. If it's just, I peel and eat slice by slice.

I bought a bag of oranges for the Christmas holidays. These were navel oranges, thick skinned and seedles - easy to peel and eat. I peel my oranges, then part the fruit into halves. Next, I separate one of more sections and pop them into my mouth. No fuss, no mess!

In cases where the skin will not part company from the fruit, I leave it on and eat a few pieces of skin.

By the way, did you know that the oils in orange peel is flammable? Bend a peel in half forcing a small spray of liquid to squirt out. If this is directed into a flame, the spray will burn. Years ago, we did this using a kitchen match. Do not try this experiment unless properly supervised or if you are self supervised, do it in a safe manner.

I eat mine in wedges like Glenda. My mom used to call this a "hospital orange" because that is the way they gave it to her in the hospital when she was in the hospital as a child.
Every time I eat one this way I think of her.

Like many others, I cut mine into wedges. When my girls were little we started calling them orange "smiles".

In addition, I always wash the outside of the orange. That way they can be thrown into a ziploc to take with or you can pop them into your mouth so that you really can have an orange smile.
