I used the Retsoration Hardware's Dakota series in soft iron in the kitchen and small nickel Martha Stewart (Home Depot) knobs in the laundry room.

I've got the Amerock standard type knobs that you see everywhere, in the silverish black. They are very plain and weathered looking.

We have a dark blue Richlite counter (that can look black) with slate look tile flooring, so may be a similar look to yours. All hardware is satin/brushed nickel. I was worried ORB would be too dark but I also think it looks great with cherry.

We used Restoration Hardware Aubrey knobs on uppers:

I don't have a closeup picture of them installed, but we chose TopKnobs bin pulls and knobs in an antique pewter. We searched forever for the right finish. I also wasn't sure about the bin pulls, but the samples they sent sold me. They are very comfortable for both of us and we really like the look.

We used the "dated" ORB. I didn't want shiny chrome, and brushed nickel looked dull on cherry. We needed a darker element in our kitchen, but we couldn't find anything we liked in a black or other dark finish that didn't read too Craftsman. Hoped to find ORB with a brassy undertone like our chandelier, but the Amerock Revitalize we got is slightly coppery. We chose the rectangular knobs because the round ones from that group were too traditional. Really like the pulls because they are deep.

We went with the ORB for both knobs and pulls.

We did not choose soapstone because I was scared off by the discussions about softness. I still LOVE the way it looks, especially with natural cherry.

Schaub ORB (which is a flat brown, they have another color that has glints of brass showing through more like the ORB in other lines) handles and bin pulls from their Traditional collection.

ON our family room cabinets, we used walnut knobs that my husband made:

mjocean - We did that remodel in the basement in 2005, and I just looked in my file but I didn't save that information. I guess that was before I started to obsessively save every little thing about everything. Anyway-I just looked on RH's site and it looks like the pulls *might* be the Gilmore ones, and the knobs are definitely the Duluth ones.

My cabs are medium stained cherry, and raised panel, not Shaker. I used ORB knobs and pulls, very simple, from Berenson. My floor is medium-dark gray tile that looks like slate. Not great pictures, but here's the idea. I think lots of finishes - ORB, black like aged iron, polished nickel, chrome, or even antique brass all look nice with natural cherry.

Thanks, MJ. My granite is Typhoon Green. I've attached the link for my Berenson pulls. Their web site shows all their collections. They seem to have good quality finishes, but they are not very expensive. They're made in Buffalo, I believe.

Ginny, thank you. Our counters and backsplash are Azul do Mar which is a quartzite though the stone yard had it with the granites.

This was the first time my husband attempted to turn a set of identical items. Generally he has turned things like salt shakers and bowls. He made about twice as many as we needed and I sorted through to get the best matched pairs for where the knobs are right next to each other. Some of the extras have since been used because my DIL had a dresser that needed knobs.

What you can't see is that he put a threaded brass insert in each block before turning so these should last forever and not have the problem of loosening that plain wood knobs sometimes have. Also, we worked a lot on the shape and these are extremely comfortable to use. I find them as ergonomic as the best handles. That has changed my opinion on knobs vs handles.
