Yikes! 10 shopping days left and I haven't started!

I admit I have been very busy. We finished up our upstairs bathroom remodel which included redoing every room upstairs. I went through a million boxes, built a library shelving system, put all my books away, got rid of furniture, painted and redid my upstairs... just in time for company over the weekend.

I must get on with Christmas as I am sending stuff to Texas! I just can't get into shopping this year! I am hosting Christmas for our family (30+) and have yet to even think about my menu.

That said, my house looks beautiful. All the sheetrock mud is gone, everything is organized and decorated... and the split pea soup simmering on the stove smells great. (I couldn't go shopping today because I had to make soup. LOL!)

I bought some gifts today for my niece (her birthday is the 27th, so I needed to get a birthday gift also) and my mom. They live in the same town, (not too far from golddust I believe - Butte county)so I can mail everything together. My plan is for my daughter to fly to Spain to visit my son who is doing a study abroad year there. That was to be my gift to both of them. However, the cabin crew union of British Airways has voted to strike from Dec 22 - Jan 2, so I don't know if that trip will happen. I have not planned for my daughter to come home nor bought gifts for her or my son. She currently lives in L.A. and we are in Oregon. I am trying not to stress over the situation. We will go visit my oldest son for Christmas eve and spend the night in a hotel. Probably will give him cash, since he is a struggling recent college grad working in retail.

I haven't started, either. Luckily, I don't have many people to buy for, and our sons each gave me the list I requested from them several weeks ago, thinking I would get a start. They each want mostly books, DVDs and video games, so my main shopping will be easy, once I get going - but I STILL have to start, for heaven's sake!

Jeanne, your table is just lovely! The centerpiece is perfect, simple but so eye-catching. And you know that I love the addition of all the white bunnies (and tea pot). I am a firm believer that bunnies go with any and all holidays. LOL. Probably cause my house is overrun with the non-real kind. And none of those in the yard causing mischief, thanks to my life as a city dweller. Sorry I'm late to all the Memorial celebrations. And I never did get out my decor either. I'm going to give myself one more chance...4th of July...and if it stays packed again this year (be two in a row), then it will have to go. New rule I'm trying to enforce, stuff can NOT stay packed several years without seeing the light of day. I need to let someone else enjoy it if I can't. Anyway, I definitely enjoyed seeing your pretty things and am so glad you decorated for "us" here. ;o) hugs, Karen

davidrol, The faucet was an American Standard---about twenty years old. It had been slowly falling apart in various ways for some time. We had been putting up with it until now. I am shocked to hear that the hose could not have been full of holes, because when I emptied out the cabinet and turned on the faucet, the hose was leaking at multiple points along the length---kind of like a soaker hose. Unfortunately, the faucet has been put out in the garbage, so I can't offer a post-mortem autopsy to provide any other answers. As I said, the faucet must be about twenty years old, so I think it provided adequate service for some time before giving out. This was one of the first faucets made with a pull out sprayer instead of one on the side--quite advanced for the time, but archaic compared to modern faucets. The pull out sprayer portion was made of black plastic. You pressed on the top of the sprayer and the water stream would change to a spray and automatically go back to the regular stream when it was turned off. It stopped going back to the regular stream when it was turned off years ago, so we had to turn it on and off manually ourselves. We had a friend who worked for a plumbing supplies distributor at that time and he was able to get us a good deal on it at the time.

It's such a stormy early evening here (and it's tomorrow night that is supposed to be our real wind and rain coastal storm), I'd love to have my tree, its lights, fire in the fireplace and my quilt. But I took my tree down a few days ago, packed all the ornaments wrapping some, wrapped each piece of the santa figurine collection, thought I had everything carefully stored for another year. Then, saw a little ring sized box on the dining room table that holds the replacement bulbs and the fuses for the tree lights that didn't get into the lights box. And later that night, a chubby little sitting cross legged santa in his horn rimmed glasses still looking at me from the kitchen window sill over the sink. Second try, now everything is put away. This is where I am at, DH seeÂs us remodeling kitchen in three or more years and I see us remodeling our kitchen in the next year or earlier. So, Right now I am more in the process of elimination as far as cabinet brands go. Many earlier brands have been eliminated due to size issues as in I want and need deeper and taller wall cabinets and prefer little to no fillers. Also, cost has been a big factor. I have a basic idea of layout but need help in changing the nook area and windows. Some appliances will be reused but we will replace refrigerator with the kichenaid 42" built-in French door paneled and replace the microwave with the adventium. I have the countertop narrowed down to three or four and know exactly what I want for the backsplash, still unsure of wall splash behind stove though. The kitchen sink has been narrowed down to two choices and cab hardware to three. I know what I want for lighting but havenÂt found exactly the right one, I will know it when I see it. Still tossing around the idea of wood range hood verses stainless. The doors of my dreams are simple $$$applied moulding but with most likely end up with nice raised panel for style of home. Husband thinks I spend way too much time thinking of and planning for the kitchen.

Martha checking in here. You silly silly girl. lol. All I have left is one present to wrap then I am DONE.

But I start my shopping in September because we have a lot of people to buy for.

I sure would like to see your house though, it sounds beautiful!

Just started this afternoon. UGH I hate shopping. The crowds were miserable as were the store employees. Not a very happy camper at the moment as I still have at least 1/2 of my shopping left to do.

I have gifts that have to be mailed as well, so I guess I'll be back at it again tomorrow.

I live in Nevada County, close to Butte. Isn't Yuba City and Chico in Butte County?

DH just got out of jury duty (postponed trial) so I just talked him into hitting the stores tomorrow, since he was prepared to take the day off anyway...

I did a run to a store called 'Mountain Pastimes', a great store with lots of wonderful games, puzzles and the like. I dropped about $150. there so I am on my way. I bought several great games.

I hate shopping too. I always go with a list. I am not interested in just browsing until I find something.

But since I do hate to shop, I do tend to find things for me when I do break down and go. ($$$)
