Michelle, What you call the motor is the oil burner itself and it is supposed to be that way. The smell of oil though is not. If you are continuing to get the smell every time it runs it is not set up right. Have your tech come by and set it up with his test equipment which he should have done to begin with. That smell is excessive oil getting into the chamber, either by a delayed ignition or running to rich which must be adjusted. If is not corrected it will soot up your furnace and will have to serviced anyway. These things do not improve with age. Also, have him check your draft, which is all part of settng up your equipment, to make sure you have enough so you don't get co2 in the house.

baymee. when you take an efficiency test on gas you take a co reading. when you do oil you take a co2 reading, at least in the bachrach kit.

That's true, but CO2 is always present in the house. CO means carbon monoxide, which will kill you.

Michelle, their should be a cover on that unit, the way they ran the oil line prevents you from putting the cover on, where is the exhaust vented to? cant tell by the pic but you may have a draft problem or not properly adjusted as spot09 mentioned, you should not be getting odors also oil burners produce co2, co is very hard to achieve with oil so that shouldn't be to big of a concern

I'm having them come back out to ask about a cover and still getting fuel smell cause under the house smells bad....also my old furnace used to come on heat up, blow than came back about a minute later to cool down...this one is not comming back on ? Model Federal OFB-100
