I had some from Walmart about 2 weeks ago.
They were good. I posted it in WFD.

Then I got a new chest freezer. and discovered some corn I had frozen with the husks on,
since last August.

They were good too but gone.
Have to stop at Walmart.

I eat the corn round and mostly side to side.
Whatever gets me thru the corn.

I hope we are not starting another etiquette thing. LOL!!!

Side to side. I tried it without butter and salt a couple years ago and couldn't believe I liked it just as much if not more. I haven't looked back - it's nekkid steamed corn for me, unless it's more of a recipe like Cooks Illustrated's 'Mexican Street Corn' - YUM.

Oh and once I pick it up an ear I eat it start to finish then immediately get up from the table to throw out the cob. I'm guessing that's a combination of mom always having served it before the main course rather than as a side, coupled with finding "used" cobs quite unappetizing to look at, esp if there are stray kernels left behind.

I'm a traditionalist I suppose, so it's side to side for me. Now though, I want to try eating it your way, May!

Typewriter.

Of late I've been deep frying on the cob until golden, not butter necessary, just a sprinkle of brown sugar. Amazing!

LOL, yeah, typewriter. I almost wrote that in my original post but then I couldn't think of a comparable word to use for the round & round!

Deep fried!!! Wow! I never thought of that. I'm pretty lazy about deep frying anything except french fries on rare occasions. I might have to try that with the corn though!

I had corn on the cob from WalMart last nite, 25 cents each. Really tasty corn.

I made lemon/pepper butter and it was very very tasty.

Generally make this but was out of horseradish.

1/2 cup softened butter
1 Tbl mustard regular
1 tsp horseradish
salt & pepper to taste

Mix all together, or leave off the S&P and put it on your corn, directly.

Just spread the butter on your hot corn.

Tell me about freezing on the husk? It's a dozen for a dollar at our produce mart!
We like it best grilled in the husk after soaking in water. A little butter and salt.

I've never grilled corn but always intend to. This time I'll have to buy more if I want to because the husks are all long gone into the garbage can at the grocery store.

Tracydr, just peel back the husk, remove as much silk as you can and fold the husk back over the corn. Toss in ziploc bags and freeze!
Take them out of the freezer and straight to the grill, no need to thaw! The moisture steams them and the husk keeps it in. YUM!

I'm a typewriter girl, BTW. Butter or not, salt or not, I just like it!!
I love to butter a nice, soft piece of homemade french bread, then roll my corn on it. Butters the corn and melts it on the bread at the same time!

Ever tried it raw? It's surprisingly delicious, but by golly it must be very very fresh.

For store-bought corn on the cob, it's microwaved just to heat through (still in the husk), covered in lashings of butter and eaten round and round.

Last week my DH bought some and it was delicious, 4 for $1.00. So he bought more this week, same price, it was awful. What a disappointment.

I bought corn at WalMart today. Plan to have it tomorrow. I, too, cook in microwave after pulling back husk, removing as much silk as possible, then recovering with husk. It is so, so good. The microwave seems to increase the sweetness and makes it taste very fresh. Of course, perhaps I have never had really fresh corn.

Oh, side to side. Round and round lets too much of the butter drip off.

Oooh, for something yummy...Cook the ears on the bbq grill, without the husks so that some of the kernels get brown, a few blackened just a bit. Use a fairly low heat to make sure the corn is cooked before it gets too black. The caramelized kernels intensify the sweetness of the corn almost to painful levels. :)

Squeeze fresh lime or lemon juice over the corn, and sprinkle with a mixture of salt & cayenne (or salt & sugar for kids unlikely to enjoy spicy things) just before eating. YUM!

Stopped at Wallyworld today and it was 10 cents and ear so I grabbed 4. It is on the menu for tomorrow, to be eaten Underwood style with chive butter and salt.

May, I can't believe how little you have to pay. Corn was on sale here - 5 for $4.00. Local corn won't be available until August and even then the price will be at least $5.00 to $6.00 a dozen.

Over the years I've tried all the suggestions mentioned here,including grilling, microwaving, different seasonings, etc.... but for me nothing compares to corn cooked in a pot of water( with a little sugar instead of salt) and served with lots of butter, salt and pepper.

Another typewriter here. It was 4 for $1 last week, this week it's 4 for $2. It was a good batch.

Ann T, I agree, nothing is better than just plain old boiled corn on the cob.

I've given up butter and I'm cutting back on the salt, but I need black pepper for my corn. I don't care for it grilled at all but I have occasionally stuck an ear in the microwave. It's passable.

I don't freeze on the cob because it takes up too much freezer space, but I freeze it off the cob for things like corn chowder.

Daisy, my second favorite way to eat corn is right off the stalk, standing in the garden. Just raw, still fresh and sweet. I don't do it with supermarket corn, though.

Here it's on sale at the grocery for $2 a dozen, so you're getting a good deal, Tracy, stock up if you have freezer room and it's good!

I just planted four rows, 50 feet long. That should be enough for eating raw, for as many dinners as I want and leave enough for freezing and canning Readinglady's Southwestern corn relish. Until then, I'll have an occasional ear from the grocery, and wait for my own to ripen or get the early corn from my local farm market, who grows their own.

Elery doesn't even like corn, go figure, and I thought I was the picky one in the family. He might like it with Glenda's horseradish or Rachelellen's lime and cayenne, though, I'll have to try those.

Oh, and I'm also a typewriter kind of corn eater, I learned to type on one of those standard Royal typewriters and I still beat the heck out of a keyboard!

I know only 2 people who eat round and around....and both are married to children of mine! LOL!!
Where is this corn coming from now that It's so cheap? We won't get local corn until...at the earliest mid July.
But when we have to ship it in it costs lots more than $.25 an ear!!
Last summer, at the top of the season, corn picked that day was $4.00 a dozen at the cheapest....more often $4.50.
OOH! One more month!
