My beautiful puppy has become, well...a little funny looking!

Here are some photos from her youth (see below).

When I first laid eyes on her, I thought she was just about the cutest little thing I ever saw in my whole life. More importantly, mother and father were well-behaved, highly intelligent, good-looking dogs. And "Teddy" (as she is now known) was a very sweet little beastie.

I still believe she's very smart and I think she'll be a wonderful companion but, well, uh, she's a little funny looking these days. Her ears have outgrown her head and her legs are way too long for her body and she's sprouting random brown splotches on her head and snout.

Eventually, her fur will be quite long (she's a sheltie) and regardless of her appearance, she's mine for life. She's 13 weeks old and she's quite a character and thinks that if we're sitting down - anywhere - we should have a puppy in our lap.

So, is this just a funny-looking age? Whaddya think?

Awwww heck, "Mom", everyone has their awkward stage! She's too cute, Rose, even now.

I can see those brown spots in her puppy pics..at 13 wks., she's still a puppy, right?

She's a keeper and a cutie, I think! :)

Ahhh, a nice, warm boulder after a night of rampant destruction and 'possum pillaging. Good times for a bad kitty. :D Oh, MY!! Pork chops!! skatiero, I am so excited by your post! Most definitely you may use the picture!! I looked at your website a while back when you posted it and was so impressed, both by your work and at how great you look. You had been saying you thought you didn't look well and I can't remember whether or not I posted to you at the time, but I'll tell you now that I thought you looked great. And I am always in awe of those who can channel their creativity into such fabulous works as yours. I'm very sorry about your Maltese. It is so hard to lose a pet - you do have to go through a mourning period, I think. We lost our dog, who was 16, last summer and didn't really feel ready for another until now. I married my dh when Luke (the dog) was 9 years old, so this is my first experience with a puppy. What do you think about this new name? DH even agreed to it. Our 5-year-old suddenly came up with the name Cricket, and we really think it fits. I think we could still use Shortcake as an endearment, too. Believe it or not, it even ties into the girls' desire for a Disney princess name, as Cricket is one of Mulan's companions and is supposed to bring her luck :) Cricket/Shortcake now knows how to sit, lie down, and roll over, though that one requires a treat in the hand for prompting. We're still not quite there on housebreaking and I'm not sure what I might be doing wrong (if anything). She doesn't go in her crate, she does go outside when I take her, she tells me sometimes when she needs to go out but she sometimes goes again inside or she will pee outside and then poop inside. Luckily, the floor is hardwood, but I always said I'd never had a pet that pooped in the house. Hopefully, it's a temporary training situation.

Houzz Has Become UnManageable... I Can't Search 50,000 Photos!

When I started using Houzz I was amazed at how accurate the results of my searches were (in addition to the size of the photos database). It was a great resource. More recently when I've prepared to undertake projects, I've noticed that I just don't get the same, accurate results. My searches are riddled with results that just aren't pertinent. I think this is due to the incorporation of advertisers from my city and surrounding areas (contractors, builders, and others). There are enough ads (or results that are somehow influenced by someone who has something to sell) now to really hinder the flow of design ideas. I guess many internet sites end up using advertisers but it morphs the user experience. It's really made using Houzz less fruitful.

Betsy, we've had yorkies for over 15 years ... right now we have six of them. I think a shih-tzu/yorkie combo will be adorable. It's true, it'll require regular haircuts, the amount of time between cuts will depend on the style you use. We don't keep the regular yorkie-looking long hair style, because our kids play outside and they get into too much stuff which sticks to the hair. About 10 years ago, when we just had three fur-kids and $35/ea was just too much every 6 - 8 weeks, I watched carefully and saw what the groomers were doing, and bought some really good clippers and started doing it myself. They looked pretty funny the first few haircuts, but we all got the hang of it and it's not too bad now. From what you've said about Sedona, I'd be surprised if she has problems adjusting to a little brother or sister. When we got Pebbles, Rocky was just rude to her ... snarly every time she'd come to play, he'd hop up on the couch to escape her, because she was too short to jump up. It was ugly sounding for exactly two weeks ... on the 15th day he came off the couch and started playing with her and they were the best of buddies for the next 11 years. The worst part about housebreaking is that yorkies have short little legs, which makes it easy to squat or squirt quickly. We never had a problem house-breaking from puppyhood ... but these rescues are another story. My sister was never able to housebreak hers, but it was also her first experience with an indoor dog. I'm guessing your experience will win out with your new baby. Yes, I'm assuming you took one home today! They're too cute to walk away from!! LOL!

She is so cute. My Mom had to put her sheltie down a year and 1/2 ago. She said No More. She said "They'll out live me, and it's to hard to lose them." I said "So, they're a lot of company, and someone to talk to." But at 83 I don't want to talk her into something that would be to much work for her. Like potty training. If we want to go somewhere, she'd have to worry about someone to take care of it. I keep mentioning a rescue Sheltie. It would already be trained, and in need of some love.
Her Bo was a real sweetie.

She reminds me of those awkward teen stages when kids are all ears, hands, feet, Adam apples, etc. She will be a swan soon, Rose!

She is lovely. Tell me about her intelligence. I adopted a Boston Terrier/ Sheltie mix from Petfinders last summer and he is the smartest little dog I ever had. Picture a Boston Terrier with a pointy Sheltie face. Good mix. I hear they are both smart breeds.

ahhh the leggy and ear stage...it'll be gone in awhile...She's beautiful...nothing like a sheltie! I miss our shelties...they were our first babies!

LOL when the kids hit about 13 is what I call the coltish stage...they look like little colts all legs shaggy hair then one day BAM they are grown and just beautiful! Your Teddy is sooo cute....We had a sheltie mix growing up and my sis has a sheltie....he is the best dog...so so smart....Stacy

The picture above is another view of Teddy. She's not rabid, I promise. She's trying to get ahold of my cell phone and I managed to snap a photo in mid-grab (hence, the teeth).

She is a funny little dog. And big, apparently. She's 13.5" inches at the withers (and almost 13 pounds), which means she's going to be a big sheltie. Which is good. I like 'em big. :)

I see you don't know about puppies, they grow fast and yes, they get the long legs, that is their two year old stage. And they do get spots and such as they grow, they change alot. Enjoy your puppy is a cutie.

Can I climb on my soapbox for just a second? This just reminded me of something. I know everyone here knows this but please be sure to pass on to people who get their first pets:

Please Give the pups/kittens GOOD nutrition! Cheap pet foods are made cheap and nowhere near as good for them as a true better brand. I used to think they're all nutritious, but how I've discovered from research and practical experience that they're NOT the same. Serious health problems can develop from undernourished when young and so please pass on that the cheap brands, including virtually all store brands are not good for them. You don't need the super-premium foods if you can't afford it, but pet owners have a responsibility to feed them right.

And she's STILL a cute pup in my opinion! Feed her well and play with her for me! Oh, BTW, cell phones are not nutritionally balanced! ;)

She looks just perfect for her age, my collies both looked goofy at that age, shortish hair and biggish ears... very adorable though, so enjoy her because she'll grow up way too fast.

She's getting CUTER! I love Shelties and was trying to get one when the breeder discouraged me because of the hot weather conditions here. My cousin has had a few though and they act like human children.

Cynic, I think she just wants the rollover minutes.
