My beautiful puppy has become, well...a little funny looking!

Here are some photos from her youth (see below).

When I first laid eyes on her, I thought she was just about the cutest little thing I ever saw in my whole life. More importantly, mother and father were well-behaved, highly intelligent, good-looking dogs. And "Teddy" (as she is now known) was a very sweet little beastie.

I still believe she's very smart and I think she'll be a wonderful companion but, well, uh, she's a little funny looking these days. Her ears have outgrown her head and her legs are way too long for her body and she's sprouting random brown splotches on her head and snout.

Eventually, her fur will be quite long (she's a sheltie) and regardless of her appearance, she's mine for life. She's 13 weeks old and she's quite a character and thinks that if we're sitting down - anywhere - we should have a puppy in our lap.

So, is this just a funny-looking age? Whaddya think?

Awwww heck, "Mom", everyone has their awkward stage! She's too cute, Rose, even now.

I can see those brown spots in her puppy pics..at 13 wks., she's still a puppy, right?

She's a keeper and a cutie, I think! :)

Dear, Dear Annette: So very sorry to hear about your sad loss. It is never easy to say good bye to loyal and devoted friends. But please know that is the only thing they ever ask of us ... to ease their suffering. You gave Jake the loving care he needed and he knew how much you loved him. Hello Everyone, Sorry to get back to the party late!!! : ) I have been out working and the days get longer after being on vacation!!! Especially when one works a 12 hr day!!! Yikes, it gets hard to adjust back into the swing of things!!! Mike, I do use the Gritty Mix on my Citrus, C & S and most of all my young Plumeria as well as my DR's. Using this mix has really allowed me to become relaxed at watering without the fear of over watering. Some of you know that i travel for my job which takes me away for several days at a time. I may have a trip that last for 4 days. Before i leave on a trip that long i always make sure my trees are watered and when i return i water again when i get home. When i do have multiple days off, i have just used the same method that Josh uses and i know what the containers feel like and how the foliage looks. Usually, i will wait for a couple of days after i water and then check my plants visually and also check them by feeling the mix as well as lifting the pot to feel how it weighs . Sounds funny, but i do know what each one should feel like with the proper amount of moisture. Even if i want to give them more, i really dont worry because i know that they wont have excess water retention in the containers with this particular mix. My pots are lifted and when i water, i water a little and then while im watering other plants i go back and give them a little more. The excess water does drain out into a plastic plate which the containers are setting on plastic water caps. I use four per container. The excess water stays in the plates and i let it evaporate in the plates. I had every intention of using the Skewers at first, but i never really needed them. Some use them and i think its a great tool to use to see if your trees are dry or moist. My trees (Plumeria) have different watering needs. So as i look over my plants and trees everyday, i feel them and check them as i make the inspection..lol It is a relaxing way for me to unwind when i get home from work. You know how it can be crazy at work for me!!! : ) I just dont worry anymore about watering them. They usually get watered every two days, but some are different. I have a few trees that like to be watered everyother day. Some are watered every four days.. some weekly. It is like they all have different personalities!!! The Plumeria get watered if active this time of year maybe every other week. It is all about the individual plants and their needs. Hope this makes sense!!! Josh, Thanks for your watering techniques...it sounds like we water the same way!!! I really think one becomes aware what the plant or tree needs. I always check on the trees that like alot of water first. This does include my Citrus and my special other trees. Hope all is well in CA!!! Cant wait to see pics of your Ponderosa Lemon!!! I will prune the top of my tree this spring. : ) Toni, Thank you for the nice compliments on my trees. I cant believe how many blooms i have on the Murraya Paniculata either!! It really has put on a show for me and it has all sorts of pods growing.. The Varigated Maya is doing great... Im so excited about this Plumeria. Remember when you asked me about whether i had a Varigated one or not? Well, my girlfriend had purchased one for me before then and had it sent to her house to give to me for CHristmas!!! I was so surprised!!! This is my first Varigated Plumeria and i am really happy with this one!!! The leaves are so beautiful when they appear, they have this pink hue that i cant stop staring at them. I just need to watch being a "mother hen" on this particulat tree and leave it alone!!! : ) I hope you had a wonderful New Year and that everyone continues to stay healthy and happy!!! Think Spring!! Houzz Has Become UnManageable... I Can't Search 50,000 Photos!

When I started using Houzz I was amazed at how accurate the results of my searches were (in addition to the size of the photos database). It was a great resource. More recently when I've prepared to undertake projects, I've noticed that I just don't get the same, accurate results. My searches are riddled with results that just aren't pertinent. I think this is due to the incorporation of advertisers from my city and surrounding areas (contractors, builders, and others). There are enough ads (or results that are somehow influenced by someone who has something to sell) now to really hinder the flow of design ideas. I guess many internet sites end up using advertisers but it morphs the user experience. It's really made using Houzz less fruitful.

Stray dog has had her puppies

in our housing colony, a stray dog gave birth to 3 small, cute pups. till 3-4 weeks they were in the temporary shelter made by their mum. when they opened their eyes and started walking, i was very happy and thought that they would come to our quarter and play. after a week or so, one pup(out of 3) came to our house in evening. He sat in the verandah, slept for a few minutes. at that time i was sleeping. my sister told that he slept for a few minutes and then she and my mom came back and they also felt like sleeping and slept for half an hour. When we returned, we saw he wasn't there. we thought he must have snuggled through the openings of the main iron door. At that very night, that pup,(whose shelter had been transferred to a public garage) started weeping. my dad and i put him on a cardboard piece near his siblings and mother and came back. this continued for 2 more days. after that he stopped weeping. i noticed he couldnot drink his mother's milk too.he had become very weak. we did everything for him that we could do, put him with his mother and siblings, covered him with a cloth too. but, even after that, on 14th jan2014, when it was 12:30 PM , I went to check him and found he was not breathing, i shaked him and even put him to another place by hand. he didnot react which he usually did while being placed by hand.then i sadly realised that he had left us... my heart is broken.what to do.

She is so cute. My Mom had to put her sheltie down a year and 1/2 ago. She said No More. She said "They'll out live me, and it's to hard to lose them." I said "So, they're a lot of company, and someone to talk to." But at 83 I don't want to talk her into something that would be to much work for her. Like potty training. If we want to go somewhere, she'd have to worry about someone to take care of it. I keep mentioning a rescue Sheltie. It would already be trained, and in need of some love.
Her Bo was a real sweetie.

She reminds me of those awkward teen stages when kids are all ears, hands, feet, Adam apples, etc. She will be a swan soon, Rose!

She is lovely. Tell me about her intelligence. I adopted a Boston Terrier/ Sheltie mix from Petfinders last summer and he is the smartest little dog I ever had. Picture a Boston Terrier with a pointy Sheltie face. Good mix. I hear they are both smart breeds.

ahhh the leggy and ear stage...it'll be gone in awhile...She's beautiful...nothing like a sheltie! I miss our shelties...they were our first babies!

LOL when the kids hit about 13 is what I call the coltish stage...they look like little colts all legs shaggy hair then one day BAM they are grown and just beautiful! Your Teddy is sooo cute....We had a sheltie mix growing up and my sis has a sheltie....he is the best dog...so so smart....Stacy

Thanks for all the replies. It is comforting...

The picture above is another view of Teddy. She's not rabid, I promise. She's trying to get ahold of my cell phone and I managed to snap a photo in mid-grab (hence, the teeth).

She is a funny little dog. And big, apparently. She's 13.5" inches at the withers (and almost 13 pounds), which means she's going to be a big sheltie. Which is good. I like 'em big. :)

I see you don't know about puppies, they grow fast and yes, they get the long legs, that is their two year old stage. And they do get spots and such as they grow, they change alot. Enjoy your puppy is a cutie.

Can I climb on my soapbox for just a second? This just reminded me of something. I know everyone here knows this but please be sure to pass on to people who get their first pets:

Please Give the pups/kittens GOOD nutrition! Cheap pet foods are made cheap and nowhere near as good for them as a true better brand. I used to think they're all nutritious, but how I've discovered from research and practical experience that they're NOT the same. Serious health problems can develop from undernourished when young and so please pass on that the cheap brands, including virtually all store brands are not good for them. You don't need the super-premium foods if you can't afford it, but pet owners have a responsibility to feed them right.

And she's STILL a cute pup in my opinion! Feed her well and play with her for me! Oh, BTW, cell phones are not nutritionally balanced! ;)

She looks just perfect for her age, my collies both looked goofy at that age, shortish hair and biggish ears... very adorable though, so enjoy her because she'll grow up way too fast.

She's getting CUTER! I love Shelties and was trying to get one when the breeder discouraged me because of the hot weather conditions here. My cousin has had a few though and they act like human children.

Cynic, I think she just wants the rollover minutes.
