In, Out, Calm Thoughts. So sorry for your incident. I 'react' pretty much the same way to aspirin or NSAIDs and have had the 'no air' situtation with asthma. Scary.

What did they give you? Prednisone?

A 45 minute drive to the hospital when you're having an allergic reaction is real scary. I hope you have medication you can give yourself in the interim. Glad you're okay now.

How scary! Do you carry an Epi-pen on you? If not, I would strongly suggest you talk with your doctor about getting one. I worry that the 45 minutes it takes to get to the hospital could be deadly. I carry an Epi-pen because I am allergic to bees. It's been my lifesaver!

That 45 minutes must have seemed an eternity. Sure glad things are back to normal. I'd be ditching the gun cabinet, or make sure hubby doesn't touch it when you're in the house.

Good heaven, Caroline, I'm so glad that your hubby got you set and in the car, and that your meds kicked in. Allergies are nasty and so frightening. What other allergies do you have?

Glad you keep your sense of humor and stay calm. That's really helpful in an emergency. Hope you're feeling fit, funny and full of vigor by now.

Hope you call Harry over for some quality Mom/Pup time to aid your recovery. Now Helpful Harry wouldn't do anything while you were gone. He might try to make sure things don't spoil and smell up the house which might cause a reaction for you. He's only thinking of you! And he's willing to make any sacrifice necessary!

I'm home; very shaky and discombobulated. They gave me a nebulizer treatment with two drugs in it. Then they gave me two prednisone; they shake me up too.

My epi pen and inhaler were both out of date. I'll get new one this week.

This is the 3rd or 4th time his Hoppes gun solvent has sent me go the ER. I agree; something has to be done to keep those fumes out of the house.

DH just doesn't understand how one whiff can do this to me since he can "spill it all over his hands with no I'll effect."

Pledge and other aerosols will clog my sinuses, but not shut me down.

I simply can't be in the same house with Hoppes. Even though he has the guns cleaned elsewhere, the oil is on the guns and soaked into the holsters. They have to be kept sealed on the airtight cabinet.

DH called the neighbor who put the pecan pie out of Harry's reach and even carried in the groceries that I was too weak to haul.

Woah, that is really scary. You need to get those guns completely out of your house. You just can't take a risk. And often allergies get worse with each exposure, so next time could even be worse.

I'm glad you are ok and back home. Those steroids and nebulizers make me super shaky too. Hope you're able to get some sleep tonight!

I'm glad you are feeling better. When my sister was about 3, she got into our father's drawer and found his lighter fluid, drank some and passed out. I found her. My parents took her to ER, where they "pumped" her stomach and she was saved.

Yikes! Isn't there another brand of cleaner he could use? (I love the smell of gun cleaning solvent, glad I'm not allergic to it!)

I'm fine now. I'm breathing and not coughing much. The ribcage is sore, but the red skin and hives on my arms, and hives around my eyes (what the heck is that about?) are gone.

My neighbor stopped by on his way to work. He wanted to know if I needed anything. He ran downstairs to make sure the cabinet was sealed and there were no fumes. He said "I can take off work if you need to go back to the hospital." I assured him I could call the ambulance if I needed them. They are such sweet kids. I'm blessed.

I'll go to the base clinic Wednesday and get new epi-pens and inhalers...and some benadryl - just in case. Mom had a fit when she learned mine had expired. 55 years old and Mom had a fit. LOL I am blessed.

If you have to take more Pred, ask for a sleeping aid like Ambien. Just 5 mg. helps me.
