Pesky, that's funny..I've never heard anyone in Portland ever use the "the". Maybe it's the folks who've moved from So Cal? Only in the last 20 (30?) or so years have people in WA even used the numbers for highways and I think that is because of the influx of Californians. I-5 was always the Freeway (the only freeway); the floating bridge was either the old or new floating bridge (and now they are some # I can't ever remember or tell apart - 520 and I-90, maybe?) Oh, I am showing my age. In Portland it was the Freeway (I-5) and the bypass (I-205 maybe?) I know here in WA you can tell the non-natives who call it THE Puget Sound (it's just Puget Sound or the Sound) or Hood's Canal (it's Hood Canal or The Canal) or Pike's Place Market (it's the Pike Place Market or the Market. Funny, the regional idiosyncrasies of language and naming.

Muraysmom your quilt is so pretty. did you make it? Jay what a great ditcher. They make life so much easier. LL I tried to like your FB page but it was not available at the time. Will try again later. Here is Lizzzie waiting for grout. She is very hard to photo because she is so big and curved. And in this photo I cut off the end of her tail I have grouted her now and still working on the tedious clean up. I used a lot of textured glass and beads and oddities for interest. And you all know me and my crazy colors. LOL I have an phone that works through the internet and I had to upgrade it and then uninstall re-install and fight with it for two days and finally I got a tip from a great forum about these phones and the tip worked. Then hubby has been whining his computer was not running well so I had to deal with it. GAH On top of learning my new little tablet I am overwhelmed with electronics. I am in no way a geek and just dang lucky to keep our machines running. So back to grout picking and dream up some thing for dinner. I got lunch three hours ago so I am not hungry. But Hubby is and that is a good thing.

Laura, It looks awesome! The hens and chicks that you mentioned looks like one I brought to one of the swaps a few years ago. Sorry I don't know the name. That does indeed look like a brussel sprout. You might get some harvest in October. They've never done well for me so I stopped growing them. Probably they do better in a climate like the Pacific northwest. Your peppers and tomatoes look great! Jalapenos are hard to figure as to how hot they'll be even on the same plant they can vary. I assume it's mostly soil, water and weather that makes the variability. The reason the squash flowers fall off is that they are male flowers. By this time you are probably getting female flowers and fruit. Yes the carrots would do better not under the shade cloth. I love all the pollinator friendly flowers you have, Great job!

Thanks, Terriks! Brilliant! I love the humor! When they go to Mapquest (or whatever website it was) to find the route to Bethlehem, they check the box marked "avoid Romans" -- so clever! Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Very clever indeed! I'll bet that's making the rounds on Facebook in a very viral way! (I wouldn't know ... I recently killed my FB account completely, and maybe 20% of me misses it, but the other 80% feels incredibly liberated. ;-D)

That's funny Jen. My daughter called me a week or so ago to tell me that she quit Facebook. One of her friends ironically posted about it on Facebook, calling my daughter her hero.
I have a Facebook account that I check about once a week at most. I usually only look if I've received a notification that someone has sent me a message or tagged me in a photo, which is rare. I hate to say it, but I am really not that interested in whether my cousin is on her way to Costco, or if my friend "likes" a website. I have enjoyed reconnecting with some old friends through Facebook.

I found it to be a huge time-waster for me personally, although I know many people for whom it just works. I was just talking to a friend last night who said she enjoys being able to keep up with her kids via Facebook, and I can totally understand that. I also enjoyed reconnecting with some folks from the past, but I can honestly say that out of the 249 friends I had "amassed", I really only cared to keep in touch with a handful of them with any regularity. I let those few know I was "leaving the pack", but made sure we exchanged email addresses so we can stay in touch. I doubt the rest even realize I'm not on Facebook anymore.
Totally agree with you about not caring where everyone is, every moment of the day. Mary Smith just 'dropped the kids off at the pool'. (OK, so I don't know anybody who actually posted that, but some folks did come pretty darn close. Way, way, way TMI.) ;-)
