It's Spring...time for tea!
Comments (4)Just a quick up-date. The 16oz water bottles worked well as our cooler ice and adding two tea bags made a good cold brew as they froze. Most lasted the entire 4 days in the 'freezer' cooler...the one we did not touch much. The second cooler was more of a 'fridge', and provided a nice beverage as they thawed. One cottage stop-over has a kitchenette and a small fridge/freezer so we made a few more that night. I did some head scratching deciding what to use as i rarely use plastics. These were so thin. Maybe the sportier bottles with the pull-up sip tops might be better for a few extra uses...and travel. I made one with hibiscus as the second bag with green tea. Really nice....See MoreIt's nearly 4 p.m.; time to get ready for tea!
Comments (15)Eld6161 - It's the pits about your fractured foot. I think you should try to wear the boot at least part of the day. Of course, I don't want it toppling you, either, so you have to be the one to weigh the pros and cons of it. My DH was in one for a while, he wore his to bed each night. Desert Steph - You have a sweet puppy and a sweet "Jed." Is he a son, grandson, nephew? Don't feel bad asking him to help out. That's what the younger folks are supposed to do, and I'm sure he takes pleasure in knowing he's being helpful and useful in a very real way. Don't feel bad; you do what you can do. I find myself sad at times because I can't go like a house afire all day long anymore. I can't, and I really don't even want too. I snagged the photo of the bell from the infamous Internet. I think it was from Ruby Lane. I love Mother-of-Pearl everything! AAA - Your bay window plantings are absolutely perfect. I love it. I am so sorry you're having to deal with all these restraints. Is there no one close that could "help out," especially with the linen changes and pushing the vac around? I do love the layout of your apartment. I had an even tinier efficiency apartment when I was stationed at Dover AFB, DE. I loved that place. It had so much storage, a "regular size" bathroom, two large closets and one small one, and a 4x8 kitchen. I cooked a Thanksgiving dinner for four in it! I'm happy/Iowa - It sounds as though you were plenty busy. Maybe the lawnmower man just meant "some future, far-off morning." :( For what he's charging he should fix the headlamp, deliver it on time, and then come over every week for the next two years and mow your lawn, for free. Shades - Today was dump run for me and up to Cambridge, 10 miles away but only 5 more from the dump, to get a big sheet of glass for a picture frame...Then sewing my jeans. Aside for the laundry...changing the bed...vacuuming the house...cleaning bathrooms...all the animal doings...gathering the garbage...hand watering...moving the sprinkler around the yards it has been a rather slow day for me. My Lord in Heaven, woman. It wore me out just reading about your "slow day". This was not a slow day. Take that diamond off, now, put it in a secure container, mark it, and put it in a safe place until you get to the jeweler! They can easily re-tip prongs. What a wonderful gift to have your Grandmother's stones. Mom just gave me her diamond solitaire. I was awe-struck. I am such a "sparkly, glittery, jewelry lover" and she simply is not. Her deceased husband gave her diamond earrings as an engagement gift; she gave them to me several years ago. That blew my socks off. During all these years I was working good jobs with disposable income just for myself, I wanted diamond earrings. I never once thought "Hey; I can buy diamonds for myself." I don't know why I thought a man should give them to me. I was an independent uptown girl in every other way. Now I have them and they are a gift from my Mom! He gave her a pear-shaped diamond, three-fourths carat, as a "friendship" ring. I did protest, but she insisted it would just sit on her dresser; she wasn't going to wear it. Oh man, does it sparkle, "just like a holiday!" LOL I am having it reset, once I decide on the mounting style I want. I know what I want, it's just paying for it! I am frugal, and we do have other "to do" items on the list. I want it set in a "halo" setting, but not with teeny-tiny diamonds making the halo; I want them big enough (but not huge) to show up! I have about 20 ideas to show the jeweler, but I keep coming back to this style. This is a vintage diamond which was reset in 1978 from England. The center stone shown here is 1.5 carat, but I think Mom's .75 stone would show beautifully in a setting like this....See MoreIt's officially Tuesday, so I'm starting the Tea Time thread!
Comments (25)Rob, great to see you! Your life sounds full, hectic, but gratifying. I second everyone's kudos in the mom department for you! We seem to have a lot in common. I'm a researcher/writer/editor/teacher/historian by profession (it's so hard to explain what I do, haha!). And music is a HUGE part of my life. I worked for 12 years as a professional musician before going back to college to do whatever it is I do now. My parents were so supportive of me and my music growing up. I didn't realize until I was at least in my 30's how exceptional they were. I cannot remember one single time them asking me to stop practicing or even goofing off with my friends on the piano, drums, guitar, trumpet, whatever...and I didn't know for a long time that other kids' parents weren't like that. Lass--we are lucky here in Washington (state) to have several excellent writing grants available to us. Think positive! If you don't get it this year, write and ask them how you could strengthen your writing to be competitive for next year. Then follow up and apply again! Also, check out Jack Straw. It's an amazing fellowship where they have you share your work on NPR and other venues. IIRC, the deadline is usually in October. And thanks for the encouragement! I'm celebrating small successes. If I do a little each day, it will eventually get done. :-) I'mhappy--have you tried opening your printer on your hard drive and making sure it's properly installed? Sometimes a printer can go offline even after it's been fine before. One easy check would be to uninstall it from your computer and then reinstall it. llucy-- I'm glad things are OK with your mom, but sad that you have been experiencing anxiety. I don't have first hand experience with that, but definitely second hand, as my daughter Joy has a lot of anxiety issues and full on panic attacks. I understand how frightening it must be. You're in my prayers. Steph--so very sorry you've been sick!! This heat sure doesn't help! I know you feel internal pressure to get stuff done every day, but remember your health is job #1 and getting the rest you need to get better IS doing something! Laundry and dishes aren't going anywhere. They'll wait until you're feeling up to it. :-) Audrey--that cake looks amazing, just like your name, lol! I swear if I didn't have diabetes I'd bake, then eat, that entire cake, hahaha! murraysmom--how cool is it that you have such wonderful friends to vacation with!! That sounds delightful!! And YAY for recycling! Shades, if you ever line your entire yard with empty wine bottles, I'm driving over the state line to have a serious chat with you, hahaha!! ;-) Schoolhouse, let us know if you try the tea again and how it turns out. Maybe it was just something different about your digestive system at the time and it will go down like it's supposed to now....See MoreIt's tea Tuesday. I've been waiting....
Comments (42)My times is working just fine. It was my error in not getting the time set just right. the exact hours on the timer are vague. I pushed it up a little bit and it shut off and actually turned on at the right time tonight. So all is good. I do not have to worry about it. It will take care of itself. I really have no plans to get more Christmas stuff. I did pick up some 20 light strands for crafting. I would like to put them into some glass blocks I bought several years ago at a yard sale. I have to drill them first. And then of course do some pretty mosaic on the glass blocks. I love my nativity set and mentally can not get rid of my collection of indent bulbs I have collected since my first husbands grandmother gave me two boxes of them. Not sure I will ever put up a tree again but I am not ready to give up my bulbs....See MoreLavender Lass
