AC Unit & Air Handler Replacement for Older Home: 5 Quotes
Comments (12)Hey tigerdunes, I agree - getting a breaker installed properly and up to code is priority, so whatever path I take that will have to be part of it. I have Washington Gas and NOVEC Electric. Gas is First 25 therms 47.91â Next 100 therms 30.58â Over 125 therms 25.73â Gas bill for last month TOTAL THERMS (TH) USED 122.8 25.0 TH @ $.4796 $11.99 97.8 TH @ $.3063 $29.96 ALL APPLICABLE RIDERS $3.13 SYSTEM CHARGE $11.25 PGC @ $.5026 $61.72 NATURAL GAS SUPPLY SERVICE LOCAL UTILITY TAX $3.00 ST.& LOCAL CONSUMPTION TAX $2.29 TOTAL GAS CHARGES $123.34 IâÂÂve only been here since September 2011, but IâÂÂve typically averaged 125-130 for gas in the winter, 30-50 in the summer and anywhere from 60-85 in the fall. I donâÂÂt have the NOVEC rates handy at the moment, but I average $50-$70 most months and anywhere between $110-$160 in the summer. I believe I'm working with the original boiler for my baseboard radiant heating by the way. The costs weren't ridiculously high as you can see, but I am worried that it could crap out on me any winter now, which is why I was considering the heat pump to potentially help extend its life by offsetting the amount it had to work at all temperatures. Company A said the addition of a heat pump would probably add around $600-700 whereas Company B said that the addition of a heat pump would add $1,175. The heat pump coupled with the new electric work would be way past my budget, but if it saves me an additioanl $5-6k on paying for a new boiler next year while also dropping some monthly costs, perhaps it's worth it? Are the original quotes and the additional heat pump expenses in line for the DC Metro area (or in general), in your opinion? Thanks again for your help!...See MoreHeat Pump Quote for Trane XL18i with tam7 air handler
Comments (14)What are you looking for? The XL18i system is a two stage system, the XL15i system is single stage. The selection of the size of the air handler is very important for best performance/efficiency numbers. 4655313 Active Systems XL15I WEATHERTRON TRANE 4TWX5036B1 *AM7A0C36H31 1225 37600 12.50 15.00 34600 9.25 21800 1 HRCU-A-CB Yes 311 751 Yes TAM7 36 size for the 3 ton XL15i system. 7117217 Active Systems TRANE XL18I TRANE 4TWX8036C1 *AM7A0C42H31 1185 945 37000 13.00 18.00 31400 9.50 20200 1 HRCU-A-CB 255 627 Yes TAM7 42 size for the 3 ton XL18i system. If this is not a budget decision, then get the XL18i system as I listed with 10 KW heat strip. Pay attention to the air handler model/size. If you are able to interpret the AhRI numbers, you can readily see there are some marginal savings with the XL18i system on cooling and good savings on heating with the higher HSPF efficiency. You are getting some very good pricing. I am done here. IMO Good Luck This post was edited by tigerdunes on Tue, May 20, 14 at 6:37...See MoreGood price for Trane XL15i and matched air handler?
Comments (3)Not an appropriate post...prices can vary from region to region along with competitive forces at work...plus the ease or difficulty of job and complete description of scope of work involved. And there is absolutely no reason to know or even care what the equipment and labor cost breakdown is. At the end of the day you are interested in the installed price. It does seem you have speced out the equipment you want. With the XL15i system, you get Trane's proprietary top and the extra 2 yrs on compressor warranty. You do want best matching TAM7 var speed air handler. For sake of comparison, I would also get a price on Trane's XR15 and 2 stage XR17 systems. And you might be interested that sister company AmStd has exact same as Trane's XR series heat pumps usually less expensive. I always suggest an inspection of ductwork system. Any hot or cold spots in home should be addressed. I am done here. IMO...See MoreI am getting way overpriced quotes on AC ts the TRANE tam 7 trash ?
Comments (0)well my house needs a five ton hvac replaced. got some cheaper quotes for a Lennox air system are their ser 15 sytems any good. the r6050 or whatever they are. now I have had several trane dealers out and some won't sell me a tam 7 at all. Some say there is NO problem with it they all want to sale me two state condenser and variable speed air handlers. numerous people are trashing the tam 7 air handler saying it leads air out the front and even has plastic in the front panal. huh? well I am getting quoted for an xr 15 trane condenser with tam7 lowest price about $9300 with ten years parts and labor. with a 625 dollar rebate from the local electric company for the unit. for a trane 15 with a gam5 ( construction tract housing unit not for public ) I am being given a price of $8700 dollars with no rebate ........... now I see the xr 15 is being phased out so I presume they get a discount on that so I fell even though other quotes are two or three thousand more I am getting and everyone in this town SAN ANTONIO, TX is getting major ripped off on overpriced hvac systems from EVERY TRANE dealer and American standard, rheem rudd, lennox, sears, byrant, carrier or anybody........... any comments or suggestions. should I avoid the xr15 and should I avoid the tam 7 and should I just go take a hvac course and wait and install the unit myself because they are all way overpriced in this town................ one guy is even using somebody's else's license and even has no dba with the state comptroller.......... it is a major scam artist racket in this town and talk about pressure sales........... well most flip through scenes on their tablet and say yes or no........... if no they click off the screen and leave with NO quotes left on anything . you have to demand a hard copy quote and then they never sign a name anyone can read and often the license number may indeed be someone else's if you go look it up. worse than used car salesmen in this town .............. been doing my due diligence for three weeks and about seen everybody in town to no avail as far as finding any decent hvac's in this town . COMMENTS and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged. thank you....See Moredave8367
