I knew when I moved into this house that the 25 year old Kenmores wouldn't last long, so I started researching then. I've read articles, reviews, and I think I've been to every store that sells appliances in a 50 mile radius. I need a top-loader due to space constraints, and I wasn't pleased with any of them. When the washer and dryer died at the end of August, I knew I had to bite the bullet and choose something, and I was going to go with the Maytag Centennial. Until I saw the LG top-loader. I looked up the reviews and they were consistently good, and they had a good repair rating by a leading consumer periodical. My budget isn't unlimited, and they were much more than I wanted to spend, but I haven't regretted it for one minute. I love them. The capacity is amazing, and the clothes come out much cleaner than any other washer I've ever owned. But you are the only one who can decide if a top or front loading machine is best for your needs. There are pros and cons to each. I strongly suggest you measure your available space, and where the necessary connections are as this may limit your choices. And then go to an appliance dealer that carries a broad range of machines and actually touch them, and look at them. Keep in mind some of the suggestions you've received here. Then go and read the reviews. It's important to see them because I found that I would find one that received okay reviews, but then when I saw it, something about it would annoy me - like the 5 settings for cold - cold, tap cold, cool cold, etc.

Cold only? Do the darks and save the bulky blankets, linens etc. for the awesome FL arriving- You'll be amazed how much more you can fit in the FL! I am a recent convert and (I think the LG has internal heater in the new one?) I can't believe how whites get white w/the high heat (I have the Bosch 500 plus)-you'll want to check that out!-Have fun- ps don't forget the HE detergent- you can read a ton about laundry detergent on this web- site .There are several good ones out there. With all the hype I had to try Charlie's soap- I do like it so far- just getting use to the no scent- I have to admit, I liked the smell of Tide!-Good Luck-and make sure they level it correctly!

The hot and cold inlet valves are separate solenoids, the control board sends power separately to each one. If the hot valve is energizing when cold water should be running, then it's an electrical problem of some ilk. Control board, or temp sensor (thermistor), or maybe the inlet valve assembly IF the thermistor is part of the valve, or maybe a shorted wire for the hot va. You'd need to research parts diagrams for your model to identify the various components involved. You can confirm that hot water is running when it should be cold by turning your cold water supply OFF at the faucet. Run wash cycle set to (tap) cold, or a Rinse & Spin cycle (which should be only a cold fill). Assuming it goes to filling, quickly turn the hot faucet off and note if the incoming water flow stops.

It is called knocking and our hot water copper pipe does it when we have a shower at times. And the copper pipe coming from the hot water tank does it off and on. It has something to do with the hot water pressure that is coming through the pipes or in your cast pipe to hot water supply hose. If you call a plumber they can inform you how you might fix it. We live with it, as it only happens occasionally by the shower and hot water tank - Karen
