The Kitchen Table

SIL passed away this morning.......

He has been in hospice for this past week, so not in pain, and seemed to be merely sleeping. It's been a long haul for DD, but she seems at peace today, too. DD#2 and I went to her house and had tea, and just talked about anything and everything for a while. She said she was going to take a two-hour nap before she had to meet with the funeral director this evening.

I was surprised to see this thread come up again. I see why, now. I am so sorry to hear about your Mother, Meriaux. I know it's small comfort at the time, but the thing that helped me get through it was knowing that people have done this before. A lot of us here have been through it. I absolutely understand how you feel, I lost my Mom in 2002. I have no brothers or sisters and not much other family so I understand feeling alone. The fact that you were so close makes it all the harder to go on without her, but you have her memory to guide you. The torch is passed. You know she would want you to do your best. At least you got to know your Mom, and she loved you. Some don't even have that much. I know your Mom would tell you should in NO way feel guilty about your premonition. Premonitions don't cause things to happen, any more than the weather forecast causes it to rain. Death is just a part of life. It will happen to us all one day. Your Mother was close to my age, and I hope you don't think it irreverent to talk about, but if I had to pick a way to go I'd want to go quick. It would be a shock to the survivors, though I guess, with no time to adjust. But it's heart breaking to have to watch a loved one suffer, sometimes for years. Mother's Day wasn't that long ago. Things are still really fresh for you. Trust me, it will ease with time. There have been many words of sympathy and comfort that have been written. I kindof liked this one.I hope y'all don't mind if I include the poem I picked for my Mother's holy card (or whatever they call them these days). (I knew she'd want one for the funeral as that's what she believed in) I chose a more modern picture of a kindly Jesus embracing someone who has just "come home"... Don't think of her as gone away Her journey's just begun Life holds so many facets This earth is only one Just think of her as resting From the sorrows and the tears In a place of warmth and comfort Where there are no days and years Think how she must be wishing That we could know, today Now nothing but our sadness Can really pass away And think of her as living In the hearts of those she touched For nothing loved is ever lost And she is loved so very much. -Anonymous

Oh you all are the BEST!!! we are all fine!!! I asked Al how sad he was, he said not at all, he said that she was so mean to us and treated us all so bad that you couldn't be sad, -(how terrible for a child to say that about a parent, i couldn't say that to him, though), she was not a nice person, other than the family yesterday and the 3 sisters, Al and an Uncle and our families (spouces, and children, and our own friends) only 2 of her friends showed up, so i can now see that i did nothing wrong at all it was the way she was. she was cremated and the family went to the cemetery --it was -31 degrees with the wind chill, my comment was she's paying us all back - lol. ds came home for the rest of the evening. and things are back to normal. i have learnt a valuable lesson from this woman though, that no matter what, you should try your best to be nice to everyone who passes your way, the payment in return is priceless! thank you again for all your prayers, debbie, trying to keep warm again in this cold,cold weather.

My father died in September, 2006. He had lung cancer, went into remission, then suffered a stroke, and continually weakened. On Labor Day, 2006, he was admitted to the hospital for tests, which revealed that the cancer had returned and there was nothing else to be done. He died at a hospice on September 16th. He never complained, except when he said he knew he wouldn't be going home again and that he didn't want to be alone (we vowed he would never be alone and kept true to that promise.) After the funeral I stayed with Mama to help her with all of the things that needed to be done. The first night I slept in Daddy's bed. I was in a deep sleep and felt the mattress on the side of the bed "give," as if someone was sitting by me. It was so real to me, and didn't scare me, because I felt his presence. Fast forward to last week. Mama came to visit us for the week and we were sitting outside on the patio, talking about Daddy, when all of a sudden, we saw a shooting star. Perhaps we read too much into signs like these, perhaps not. All I know is it gives us such peace, and that's all that matters.

Kelley, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I can't say I understand the pain you are going through (no one can because everyone's grief is different). And I haven't lost my father, But all I can say is that I am glad you were able to spend the last moments/seconds of his life with him & say goodbye. So many people don't get that opporunity. It is precious time. I held my little boy in my arms as he breathed his last breath & I am so grateful I had the chance to hold him & tell him how much I loved him as I had to say goodbye before he was taken away. As heartbreaking as it was (and how that 2 weeks in the hospital will live with me forever), I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. It was so hard for me to get out of bed for a long time after. And everyday when I look at the clock and it says 8:23am (the time he died). I relive that moment again. Just take each moment at a time & do what you can do to get through. As hard as it is to believe it right now, it will get easier to get through each day. I didn't believe it when everyone said it at first but it does get easier. I still have days that are worse than others but I also have more days where I can be happy & know my son is with me wherever I go & wouldn't want to see me sad. Keep in touch here..This place helped me right from the beginning. I was so glad to find it & glad you did too! Take care of yourself!

This morning our paper had an notice of death for a young man in your town, I assumed it was your SIL.
