I believe it's also in their new kitchen/bath cleaner (although not 100%). I wasn't sure if it might be in their laundry pretreater - I couldn't locate the ingredient listing or MSDS. I would disagree with you on the carrot juice comment. I do agree that things still need to get clean. I am, personally, only willing to go so far in the name of indoor air quality for my family and the effects of the products I use on the environment. I have not tried nor intend to try a "soap nut" (lol). But I'm pretty sure carrot juice is not toxic to forming cells, neurotoxic, toxic to kidney and liver and butyl cellosolve is. It is listed in the U.S. state of California as a hazardous substance (I'm also fairly confident carrot juice is not on that list). I am taking an "aliceinwonderland_id" stand on butyl cellosolve though. While I do not know much about the ingredient he/she says is bad for us (MI preservative), I do not something about butyl cellosolve. It is definitely an ingredient you want to avoid. I haven't used Windex or any heavy duty bathroom cleaners or degreasers in several years. Now when I smell them - overwhelming. Windex can just about bowl me over. I have found wonderful (hopefully) safer alternatives and my home is very clean (I'm OCD). Just as an FYI (I bought more today so top of mind) this product is amazing ... kid you not ... cleans everything beautifully and very safe. I ran into a lady buying tons today who runs a cleaning company and says they use it as their primary cleaning product. Stainless steel looks brand new with this and granite counters sparkle (no water marks). And fancy that ... made in Germany. I should post this in the cleaning forum. I digress ... Considering butyl cellosolve is in tons of cleaners you could be exposed to quite a bit cumulatively. I also thought it was interesting Charlie's home page of their website states all purpose cleaner and right below ... safe for babies. I question that. Everyone is entitled to make their own purchasing decisions. I'm happier when they are informed decisions. I, for one, will not be purchasing any product with butyl cellosolve (if I can help it). I had already written on another thread that I just purchased the Samsung 328 so I'll paste some of that here: *********************************************************** A little over 5 years ago I bought an LG WM2277HW - and now it's kaput. The maintanence history was not extraordinary - the motor had to be replaced shortly after the manufacturer's warranty ran out, but to LG's credit it was replaced without charge. I noticed that the new LG's have a 10 year warranty on the motor (guess I wasn't the only one with a motor problem) But now my LG has blown electronics and bearings, estimated $1,000 to repair. In a matter of two days I've purchased a Samsung WF328AAW. It's a little bigger than my LG with a few other snazzy upgrades pertaining to Samsung. ($750 from Best Buy using a price match from Frys sale). The LGs still looked good but I just could not bring myself to buy another LG because my old one should have lasted longer. I figure the Samsung and LG are comperable, I just decided to give my business to Samsung this time. I most definitely prefer a FL because I like to wash bulky things like comforters, stuffed animals, throw rugs, sleeping bags, etc. My daughter has many household allergies so I like to wash all that stuff regularly and I used the extra-hot sanitary cycle on anything that could handle the heat (supposedly kills dust mites). I probably use the extra-hot sanitary cycle every-other-day and believe that that is why I've never had a problem with mildue/mold I need the onboard heater. I also liked the hand wash cycle on the LG, unfortunately the Samsung I bought doesn't have that cycle. I plan to keep the LG dryer - I don't care if the washer and dryer don't match, they're in the garage. The Samsung washer is scheduled for deliver on Monday - it will take me a couple days to catch up the laundry, when I get a good feel for the washer I will post my experience. ********************************************************** Houserookie - your model is fancier than mine: bigger capacity, steam, and more washing options. I had the salesperson put in the delivery order to be sure to leave the machine in the box and DO NOT remove the shipping bolts until the machine is almost in place. The salesperson said that the delivery guys already know that but I had her add it anyway. I really liked my LG, but it should have lasted longer. After reading this forum I'm beginning to wonder if I was using way too much detergent and I am to blame for its demise - I'm a little compulsive about cleaning products - I always put in the amount written on the pachage and maybe a little more. Then I read on this forum about people using one or two tablespoons detergent. This time I'll try to control myself and not over-do it. I used various HE detergents over the 5 years, they all seemed fine EXCEPT the Costco Kirkland liquid HE. That's when the LG motor broke down. Now I stay away from generic brands. Not long after that I noticed that Costco didn't carry it anymore. Maybe I'll try Charlie's soap. I've got a mountain of laundry building up for the delivery. Hope there isn't much of a learning curve.

I had over 1/2 a bucket of Charlie's Soap when they announced an end to free shipping, so I bought another bucket then and there and put it in storage. I probably have enough Charlie's for 5-6-years now. Give them a call or send them an e-mail and ask if they have any bargains/specials, or if they will honor an old coupon? The people at Charlie's Soap are wonderful, so it wouldn't surprise me if they honor the old coupon to keep a customer. I purchased Oxy-Boost to use on our wood deck. We had some left so I used it in the laundry with Charlie's Soap. I noticed everything line-dried was STIFF when I added Oxy-Boost, which is what happens when I have used other oxygen cleaners. -Grainlady

The FAQ page has a good tutorial on STPP (Sodium Tripolyphosphate) and TSP (trisodiumphosphate). TKPP (Tetrapotassium pyrophosphate) hasn't been discussed much here, if any so I did a search on it but STPP has been a long-time favorite of a lot of forum members past and present. And of course there's other laundry boosters out there that have been used by others, for example, Borax, enzyme dishwashing detergent and oxygen type cleaners. Even something as simple as a softening agent such as Calgon or comparable can help. As far as what's "best" is a relative term. What works well for one person will be ineffective for others, plus the other issues of laundry (water conditions, temp, types of soiling etc). There's a lot of trial and error to get the right combinations.
