HW Vision Pro IAQ stat

Ayear ago I had my A/C system replaced and requested the HW IAQ thermostat. I was leary of the installers since they kept bringing the wrong unit to install even though they were listed by HW as a qualified installer. I decided to get another outfit to do the stat installation. It took them about an hour and a half to complete the job and they even asked me if I had any of the manuals that came with the unit. The system seems to be functioning but after reading more and more about this stat and the inability of some installers to install it properly, I was wondering if there is any way for a non HVAC person to verify proper operation of the thermostat.

for what type system?

do you have the outdoor sensor?

System is an A/S 3 ton AC with a VS air handler. Also has heating strips. Unit is installed in SW Florida. No outside sensors. Humidity % is set on stat.

forbie I want to come back to your comment about comfort issues being "too many". you and dealer need to address these together. I would sit down and list them in writing item by item and get suggestions and est cost to remedy. Typically there is not enough returns and/or return CFMs in townhouse/condo units especially of multifloor design. Sounds like you need a thorough evaluation of ductwork system along with possible insulation upgrades/improvements. Usually top floor is hot in summer and cool in winter. Does your townhouse share any common walls with other units? The reason I ask is three tons might be undersized. If you even have any doubt, then request dealer to provide a heat/cool load calculation. What are you doing if anything about a whole house air filter media cabinet? Or do you plan on using 1" filters in the returns. I stand by my suggestions and recommendation for the Heritage 15. You have a very good price. I did want to say though that Rheem and sister company Rudd are an often overlooked and underrated brand. ryanhughes... Now you have me really confused. If the Trane tech guy says that my setup doesn't allow for the 'communications' that the HW VP IAQ 900 uses, how can it be used??? The tech guy said the dip switches on the blower would be set to 350 instead of the regular 400 cfm to get better dehumidification with the Trane 803. But it would not be controlled or 'communicated' via the t-stat. Please help me understand this. Maybe it is not conflicting information but I just don't get it. One contractor says he will put in the Trane 803; the other, an HW VP 8000; and you say the HW 900 IAQ will work. They say it won't. Please give the explanation for Dummies. I don't understand which t-stat should be used and why it should be used. Thanks... Gary

System consists of 3 ton AS/Trane OD unit and variable speed air handler. Single stage cooling and single stage heating. I live in SW Florida. I do have installation and operators manuals for the stat and A/C components. System was installed 9-10-09 and I just don't feel comfortable about letting the contractor install the IAQ. I don't think he's ever installed one.

ibj, I feel for you, to be honest if your friend sells trane, he has got to know about the dip switches, plus he has to know about IAQ thermostats, It trane and HW IAQ for pete sake it's like bread and butter. There is nothing wrong with trane I sold/installed them for 10 yrs I know the systems very well. I also know that there are guys who sell trane that will under cut the price then leave the customer hanging and of course the customer comes here for advice when we just got through mentioning find the right install contractor. I can give the advice but you need to have your friend look this stuff up and fix it for you. You paid him, remember you didn't pay us. And I just lost a job because of a guy like your friend who undercut me and I know for a fact this long time customer of mine is in for a rude awaking because he went with a larger system and is not going to correct his zoning. But Things happen for a reason. His job loss turned into 4 other leads today. For your friend Just have him buy the IAQ stat and read the instructions it's all there and then he will know the setup for you and for the future next customer. Remember it's his job to know or to find out how and that is why you paid him. keep us up to date and if he doesn't pull through I will be glad to go through the IAQ thermostat with you.

I would figure out the location of each control wire and label it with a piece of tape. I did research that the 2nd and 3rd down w2 and w3 on the right side are the heat strip stages and should have a wire for each stage. If they both have wires the system is staged from there. If you make any changes chances are will want to go through the setup and make sure it is set to the stages you have or auto. Its easier to figure out than I can explain in type.

One wire from the outside unit should come in on w2 or w3 to activate a stage of strips when the heat pump is defrosting. This is why you want to label where the wires come from.

this is a straight AC system with heat strips or a HP system with heat strips?

post complete mdl numbers of inside air handler and outside condenser.

besides your inside IAQ stat, you do have interface module at air handler control board?

what exactly is your concern?

it would seem whether AC or HP, the main benefit from a HW VP IAQ is the DOD feature-"dehumidify on demand". how is your inside humidity? have you taken any readings?
