I'm so sorry you've had such a bad experience with your KA dishwasher. My experience has been the opposite -- our KA dishwasher is only two years-old, but so far it's been superb.

What model do you have?

KUD P01 FLSS -- and I hope you have better luck than I did.

From my 2008 KA book that is not a model available anymore. I am considering the kudso3 which I think has had good reviews. Good luck with yours.

I have had 2 kitchenaid dishwashers and love them. Sold the first one that was 10 yrs old due to remodel(still running great). Bought another one and love it. Sounds like you got a lemon!

I have had a KA for 5 years. Love it. Keeping it.

I did have to replace 1 thermal somethinger. I think it was because a family member likes to open the door before the drying cycle is over and it burned itself out.

Wetware problem in my case, not the KA's fault.

But everyone's experience is valuable here! You never know when a pattern will emerge. Did you post on appliances too pigeen?

I had my motor die twice in the first year I had it. THe one I had, ironically, was a replacement for a new one that was delivered DOA (had to do Thanksgiving with no dishwasher that year).

I was later told that KA has some problems with the motor and various valves, which would explain why my top rack was always dirty.

I did, however, really enjoy its modularity and the price point was good.

I've had a KA "S" model for over six years - cleans perfectly and no problems at all. Every brand has some bad units.

I just replaced a 7 year old KA (White), which has worked perfectly since I bought this house, with a new KUDS03CTSS. So far we love the new one even more. It is extremely quiet and can be anchored to the cabinetry on either side instead of just to the underside of the countertop above. This was huge as we recently installed 3cm granite and could not easily screw to the underside of the counter and therefore could not keep the old DW from tilting forward when unloading it.

I think I have the same one as glenster jr. Had it since May and really love it. So sorry your having problems, maybe you just got a dud.

was planning on getting one because I heard such great things about them, but at the last minute made an impulsive decision and got the Miele with cutlery rack. I love it. The short cycle is amazing (only 30 minutes!!) and LOVE the cutlery rack.

We have a kitchen aid model # KUDK01lL. It works fine sometimes and then the next time it will not start at all. Has anyone had this problem and,if so, how did you fix it?

glenster jr: We are interested in the same unit and will have quartz. Are you saying that you don't have to install it to the counter at all? Would it be best to have DW when they install the cabinets or can it be installed after the cabinets are in? Thanks. Cindy

I'm also not a big fan of KA.

We have a KA DW and have to run it on the "Heavy Duty" cycle if we want all our dishes clean. The flatware still isn't always clean, but it usually is. I'm also not a fan of the controls. If I have to open it while it's running, I can't stop it first and, unless I'm very careful how I open it, water splashes on the cabinets on either side of it.

cindy49 - You are correct. Mine is not attached to the counter at all. Actually you have to choose one or the other means of anchoring it. It comes with the clips mounted in the usual location on top, but the instructions tell how to move them to the sides of the unit. You install the screws through access holes in the sides of the tub that are sealed off with snap-in plugs afterward. You can buy/install the DW after the cabinets are in, though it would be handy to have the installation instructions handy when installing the cabinets.

Have mine 6 yrs and never had a repair. Great machine and gets quite a bit of abuse.

I have had the KUDS03STSS (the same as buehl) for a month now & I hate it. My last 2 dishwashers were KA and I loved them but this one is awful. It is incredibly loud (it makes sloushing water sounds that I can hear across the house) & the silverware never seems to get clean. I would love to have my 10+ year old KA dishwasher back.

For the record, the 4 year old lemon I now have to replace was a replacement for the first lemon they delivered. So that's why I think Kitchen Aid is in the citrus business.

I have a KA Architect II - KUDKO3CTSS2 - It cleans beautifully. I have absolutely no issues with it. Glassware comes out spotless! I put in a glass pot lid that was encrusted with cooked on tomato sauce. It would have taken me at least 15 minutes to scrub it. Came out perfect!
Those that are having trouble - please try switching detergents. I get much better cleaning from a powder and a rinse aid than from a gel or a tab.

just an update...I found a lot of rust spots on the stainless steel tub of my 1 1/2 month old KA (KUDS03STSS). The tub was replaced today & apparently the noise and ground-shaking rumblings are totally normal. My 10 yr old KA was much, much nicer than this new one. Also, 3 different repairmen told me to use less detergent since I rinse my dishes (about 1 teaspoon of Cascade) and to avoid all-in-one detergents (like Cascade Shine Shield). Apparently, if you use the shine-shield with a rinse aid they can interact & cause etching! I had no idea I had bought a different Cascade than the regular old stuff I have been using forever, so now I have to go in seach of the plain green box.
